Depends on manufacturer, but Mpeg4 is generally better quality, less compression. H.264 is good for slow networks when viewing video remotely.

What is the highest CCTV camera resolution?
rory replied to cctv_addicted's topic in Security Cameras
anyone seen a megapixel mini bullet camera on the north america side of the globe yet? -
hey guys .. waz up .. any True Day/Night IR IP Megapixel cameras right now for under $1000 or under $2000? Color only or BW only camera is useless to me right now. Did any companies come up with a camera like this yet, does not require an additional housing and lens, and that wont break the bank? Thanks ...

GeoVision Remover Uninstalls all Geo DVR Programs found, Removes all Geo DVR Folders on root Drives, and Removes the old uninstaller program (which is recreated when you install). Effects GV250-GV2008 (& Multicam OEM). http://www.bahamassecurity.com/removegeo.asp

its too dark in a far wide area in front of the camera, the camera has very little IR output, there are no reflective surfaces within the max IR distance of the camera, and well, it looks like a very inexpensive color/IR camera just by seeing the color in the day time image and going by the specs. I would start by totally ignoring this: 125ft. IR view distance Also, check for settings to turn the IR power up higher. Additionally all Infrared applications require setup at night. You should see the IR LEDs, just dont stare at them for any length of time.

Hi, i dont handle that side of things. Would need to contact either Thomas, or Larry the admin, and they should be able to get you straight. Rory

where the DVR's usually fail to update the IP is when they try to access a server in say china or taiwan from say the US or the Bahamas, does not always connect and hence it fails and at least occasionally you can get an old IP. There are free services with better servers and at least on our side of the globe, which they could use to deal with that though, or even paid services but then the cost of the DVR would be higher. All it needs to do is to connect to a remote server, they grab the IP, update the users data, and send back to the router/dvr that its updated.

once you get a DVR card it will [typically] have its own webcam software so you wouldn't need justinTV. Also you could just look for a Video Server.

Hi, this program might do what you want. Not for 8.3 yet though. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=9762

I have a client with a GV800 and 16 cameras and its fine. Its not real time but its not bad either. 4 cameras would be real time, or close to it. Combo cards are basically the same as far as recording goes at least in high quality, so unless you want real time video then the 800 is about the same, minus the RCA composite output. Ive also found the 800 to be better quality video than the combo cards. Either its a fake or its your computer, AMD is not recommended for GV800.

Hi Ken, welcome to the forum. Best thing to do is just add a link in your signature, have a look at what others have done to give you more ideas with the signature also. Thanks, Rory

new version for Geovision 8.3. thanks to avware providing a demo 8.3 server this version is only for 8.3, if used for older versions it may crash. havent done extensive testing with this yet, was mostly just a quick switch of activeX controls, so please PM me with any major errors. I didnt have the time yet to make my own installer for the activeX and codecs so I included Geo's 8.3 webcam installer files. Everything is the same as far as the program goes except: 1-Setup folder is GeoOCX instead of LiveX. 2-No right click to change quality, please set from ini file. 3-File name is different (added 83) but you can still change that. I will update the versions at the start of this thread when I get some free time as well as check on the quality right click setting which I removed due to errors. the silent_knight needs help from the best! good day to all
rory replied to silent_knight's topic in Introductions
since you have brownouts probably as bad as we have down here, best bet is either 1) Voltage Regulator - this is more important than anything, as this will save the DVR getting "fried". 2) UPS with Automatic Voltage Regulation - Same as the above but with battery backup. Some APC models have this but note that not all do, same thing with other brands, you will need to see what you can get on your side of the globe, but make certain it has AVR built in or it will be useless to you. the term may differ on your side of the globe, it can also be referred to as Line Stabilizer or Line Conditioner, but never ever just referred to as a surge protector, those things are useless with our bad brownouts. As to 7-8 hours, have you checked into the cost of a generator? -
drop them to an auto body shop and have them painted there. square poles only cost me a couple hundred landed here before and those were around 15+ foot or so.

Sorry for the long, long delay in replying. This is just another method, using script inside a web page. Website is back up. Ive been having some health issues. Rory

Hi, thanks for the offer, but this thread was from 2004.

The other guys summed it up pretty well. all that work for probably little to no money, I would just stay in bed.

Extreme's LPR cameras run average $3,400 msrp for the basic ones, that do the job at entry gates. So still if only a couple cameras I cant see even how it could cost $120,000. Thats just mad, IMO. I mean unless they are running fiber from the next county or something.

I have no problems with it. Ive been using it ever since or even before I started using Geovision. I have used it with versions 7.x up to 8.12.

Are the cheap IR illuminator from Amazon worth anything?
rory replied to Gesualdo's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Hey Scorp, right here, same thing different day. Yeah a tip on making IR spots work better also is to mount it lower and point it up higher, off the ground almost, and if there is a reflective surface just short of the max distance of the IR then you can get a nice wide area of light. Thats the nice thing about the UF100 and UF500s where you can buy the beam width you need and also adjust the output power to cut back on the light if needed also - in addition you can choose which nm you would like which also effects the light distance and coverage. -
0.01 lux sees in moonlight, thats what exview is. Mostly useless images though. Like i said, most of these OEM advertised lux ratings are bogus, as is any lux rating of .0003 lux for an exview CCD (or they are rating it with super AGC on and extremely slow useless shutters and the camera being useless under any app outdoors in sunlight, heck I can do that with Paint shop pro or adobe after the fact). BW Exview is specified around 0.001 lux faceplate, so thats 0.01 lux. F:2.0 is not even a low f stop, Ive used f:0.95 with exview cameras before to actually obtain the low light video. All exview BW bullets I tried have not had low light sensitivity even close to the more expensive Exview CCD used in the brand named box cameras. There was one rebadged out of taiwan (resold under various labels in the US) and they stopped making it, though it was too bright in the day so daytime was useless, and nobody else makes a decent Exview BW bullet anymore, so much for progression with technology As for IR, most BW cameras regardless of 0.00000 ratings will recognize some form of IR, 0.1 lux can do great with IR actually better than an exview 0.01 in most cases, but not every camera is made alike and you have to pay more to get a camera that works well with IR. example of color vs BW, three color cameras (low light superhad in lower left) and one 0.1 lux BW bullet camera (lower right). top right, bottom left, and bottom right, are of the same area which is dark. Lights on: Lights off:

Why buy a 5MP Camera??
rory replied to SteveMyers's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I can make some room on my server. let me know. Rory -
Extreme CCTV has flood IRs but they are not cheap. Examples: Given that average wide angle camera is at least 70+ degrees width. (eg. 4mm) Also note that with IR the lower you go and higher you point the IR the better, and if it has a reflective surface close to the max IR distance it will also help alot. EX82 - 4mm lens, 30 degree IR, reflective surfaces up to and at 90' approx. Pitch dark. EX82 solarized image - shows no reflective area at up to its max IR distance of approx 75-100'. hence the small spot light effect on that large back yard. Eg. Flood. Pitch Dark with UF500 Another example:

Ignore it, beware of false advertising. However there is always Exview CCDs and also the much pricier EM-CCD. Ofcourse image quality at such low light levels is usually useless though. And most lux specs from reps or manufacturers are just simply incorrect anyway, especially the OEMs. Search for Samsung 1/2" SHC-750N EM-CCD camera.

Are the cheap IR illuminator from Amazon worth anything?

Im trying to stay clear of IR cameras now, eyes have issues with them either caused by testing so much high powered IR Lighting over the years, or just old age.
