Need help with GE DVR & "Wave Reader 4.0"
rory replied to Dewm's topic in General Digital Discussion
Hi, first go here for info on setting up the networking side of it: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewforum.php?f=12 And yes GE has the rights to Wavereader so they can help if needed. http://www.gesecurity.com/portal/site/GESecurity/menuitem.11620ebca5cc0a06574efe10140041ca/?vgnextoid=4f9fe4997e789110VgnVCM100000592d7003RCRD Basically what is needed is a valid IP, cables connected, etc, if on local network just enter the local IP, if remote then port forward 1024 and use the ISP assigned IP. Test using telnet etc, info in link above. -
How to connect Louroe Verifact E to my DVR ?
rory replied to Sinkie's topic in General Digital Discussion
ive used them without the base station in the past. Dont recall the exact colors but from the PDF. Red is positive from 12v power supply, Bare is negative from 12v power supply, Black is audio. I have used either the 12vDC plug in power supplies or one of the 12vDC outputs from a distributed cctv power supply. Then for example, using an RCA cable from the DVR audio input, splice the other end, braid to 12vDC negative or bare wire on mic (this may differ as its been a while since I did this, test with and without), center to black on mic (audio). Ive used 2 pair Telco wire for them also, such as used with Burglar alarms. install info: http://www.louroe.com/instructions/emic.pdf -
Hi Guys. If I can get my hands on a Geo 8.3 server Ill see what I can do. Cant promise anything right away though as I dont have any installs right now and since everything works out there in the field they wont be getting upgraded just yet. Rory

If space is not an issue, just stick with standard Geo Mpeg4. Geo's H.264 and ASP is not that great quality.

Ultra VNC or Logmein.com

I cant verify this even works as I dont have a test DVR right now. However even if it does, it shouldnt do anything as system.ini is not an executable.

When you run the file it auto hides the taskbar and disables CTL-ALT-DEL and Tab Keys. Uses a Timer API and runs in the background, very minimal memory use as it doesnt do anything much. The keys SHIFT-F7 hides and SHIFT-F8 shows. Requires password to hide and show. Default pass is 1971, this is fixed and cannot be changed. Example usage would be to put it on startup, either by: 1- Copy and Paste it into C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Start OR 2- Place it somewhere on the PC then open RegEdit and locate: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and create a new String Value, name it anything, then enter the full path of the file as the value. Either way, it will run on start up and this can be a replacement for those that are not too keen on the GeoVision keylock utility. Just remove all icons from the desktop, that can be done manually or in the registry as well. To remove desktop icons by the registry (actually it just hides them), locate: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced and find the entry called HideIcons, make the value 1. Enough already, here is the file http://www.bahamassecurity.com/geo/TaskAdmin.exe (40kb) ..

Hi. You can get the SDK from Avermedia. Be forwarned though the Avermedia ActiveX is one of the worst/most unstable I have worked with so far.
-
That only happens if its not focused properly. Same thing happens if a fixed lens is not focused properly. In fact varifocal is alot easier to get a good focus. (once the lens and camera are good)

Hi, did you see this link yet? (not sure if that is the tweak thread you mentioned) http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=14377 Basically: Enable Windows Firewall - add the Geo Ports. Enable TCP/IP Filtering - select permit only for each one, in TCP add the Geo Ports. I can go into more detail on these if you need. ofcourse security is also increased with removal/disabling of certain services and windows features. Rory

Seeking Ideas to improve CCTVForum for 2009

Example is here in the Bahamas, my IP changes all the time, so if my IP was to be blocked, then it changes, that would mean if joe blow who i dont even know, ok i should but there are 300,000+ people here LOL, if he gets that IP and comes here, he is then blocked. Also, with DSL here, everyone has the same IP, so basically the entire country using DSL would then be banned - not something most forum owners want to do. No need to be internet-savvy to google anonymiser. In fact they only need to clone the mac on a router using their own custom mac then reset, new IP assigned. The Forum Posting software probably already has an auto feature for that as well. It still helps considerably, we were dealing with literally hundreds of spammers, now it is just the odd one once in a while that bothers to hang around long enough. Im not sure if there is Captcha on this forum sign up or not, I would have thought there is. Though even with that, Forum Posting software is updated regularly to bypass that especially with PHP forum code. Besides that most spammers that come here are manual sign ups and not bots or forum posting software anyway, so they will easily complete the CAPTCHA. Ofcourse there is also no need to upgrade for that, one can add that in themselves as I have done myself on other forums/contact forms (using ASP). Personally though I "do not bother" to do any of that here as Im not involved in that side of the forum, may need to direct that question to Larry. That would be up to Larry to decide, I cant make that decision as Im not involved in that side of it. -
How about a wireless keyboard mouse combo? But the more important question is why are you installing a PC in a ceiling?

Test Test Test - get some cameras and spend every night and day putting them up and down out in the pitch dark and the rain and the .. well you get the idea .. just get some cheap cameras for now and test them out, make sure to get at least one box camera so you can learn to focus and setup properly, and some infrared and true day night ones, some RG59 Siamese and some BNCs, come to the forum if you have questions, you might fry a couple or mess things up on your way to becoming a professional CCTV installer and technician, but experience is not just a word. Then when you start to mess with IP cameras, you will be way ahead of the other IP companies.

Yes the CT is the Triplex (Color Triplex). Its missing the "e" though so not sure if it has lan or not, could just be a typo on their part though.

But IP bans can also block "good" users from that same locale. There really is no effective way to ban people, they would just come back using proxies, which many of the spammers use anyway. The forum was overrun with spammers at one point, IMO they were mostly just users signing up to promote their business. When Larry implemented the post count thing for links and PMs, all the spam basically halted right away, ofcourse they got a little smarter and learned to just post more nonsense to get to that post count, but not many go to that extent. GeoVision Easy Share Introduction Had to make a CD for the cops, and really wasnt into the whole EZlog thing, only had a single camera, 3 videos, to put on the CD and just wanted them to be able to open up Windows Media Player. So basically made a small program that silently installs the codecs and then browses the CD's main directory; when the CD is "autorun". This means that if you have CD Data to use the autorun feature in XP (default), or when you click on the CD Drive in My Computer, it will install the codecs required to view the Geo Event Files, and then Windows Explorer will open to the CDs directory so the user can view the videos. What the program does 1-Checks to see if the Codec folder exists on the CD, continue below if it does, if not just browse the drive. 2-Checks if the codec files exist on the CD under the Codec folder, if they do, then check if they exist in the System folder or not, if they dont exist yet then copy them there. 3-Update the Registry entries with the codec information. 4-Browse the CD's main directory (Shell Explorer CD-DRIVE). Thats it .. simple and to the point. Now the Cops can watch the files, copy them to their hard drive to watch later, or whatever they want. They also have the Codec folder so they can just run that codec installer anytime they like. How to use The Codec and the Installer files are located under a folder called "Codec". The folder name cannot be changed, and the Installer file must be in that codec folder. 2 other files are located in the main directory. There is an Icon which is called "autorun.ico". This is the icon shown in My Computer next to the CD Drive Letter when the CD is placed in the Drive. You can change this to anything, and name it anything; though if you change the name, you must change it in the autorun.inf file. Autorun.inf tells the CD what to do. Basically you will want to change the label, which would represent the name of the location the video came from, your company name, or anything else you want to name it. As mentioned before, you can also change the autorun.ico to anything you like, but the it must actually physically exist in the main directory, or if you place an icon under a sub folder, you must add the folder information also. Eg. icon=icons/mylogo.ico, would represent the icon file named "mylogo.ico" located under a sub folder called "icons". The "open=" line must stay as is. Then just dump your AVI event files into the main directory, drag all the files from that main directory and the Codec sub folder into your CD burning software, and Burn it to CD. I also recommend naming the event files something the Cops can understand (eg. "01.12 AM.avi"), but that is entirely optional. Download: http://www.bahamassecurity.com/dl/?q=GeoShare.zip More Info: http://www.bahamassecurity.com/geoshare.asp NOTE: If you want them to be able to save bitmaps, change the video settings, or save additional AVIs from the files, then you will need to use the EzLog. Also EzLog is better for multiple camera playback. ..

Check out the 2 following example specs for PCs: GV2008 (x2 Cards=16) - PCI 2 Slots Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0, 4GB DDR2-800, 1500GB, DVD, PCI-E video Keyboard, Mouse, and IR Remote Control included. GV1480 - PCI-e (x1) 1 Slot Intel Core 2 Extreme 3.0, 4GB DDR2-800, 1500GB, DVD, PCI-E video Keyboard, Mouse, and IR Remote Control included. Both are about the same cost on parts, the hardware compression one is actually $200 cheaper. So since the GV2008 does Mpeg4 and at least in my case I use Geo's Fast Mpeg4 when using the other cards, would it make sense to even mess with the GV1480 anymore? Seems like the hardware compression would be the better choice yeah? I dont need H2.64 except for the webcam server. The GV2008 is supposed to be real time in D1 live and record and also higher quality. Any opinions? Thanks PS. I already know XP 32 bit wont recognize the entire 4GB

Really though, i wont use it because FF works just fine for me ( i may try it one day when i get "free" time). But if google is tracking users etc, why wouldnt yahoo and MS be doing the same such as with their IM programs which are used by millions of people. All the more reason to know your OS inside and out Then again, compared to FF, im going to think perhaps google has some kind of string attached to theirs (just think, doesnt mean they do), cause they are so into ads and making money, while Mozilla is not that I know of?
-
honestly i only use google now as thats the default search engine in firefox, im too lazy to change that
-
well nothing to do with the browser, but something i dont like about google is how the search results are different depending on your location. Also, not a fan of their search technology on a whole, back links is a flawed concept IMO. Anyway, yesterday it was infoseek, then it was google, tomorrow it will be something else. Im not going to hate on them though, they came far from where they started, though they were in the right place at the right time. Bottom line is if you put information on the internet, anyone can get it, not just google.
