What to charge for installation?
rory replied to megaserve's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Some threads to look at: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2386 http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=7399 http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=11512 http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=732 ofcourse some are old threads and prices go up over time and will differ from one location to the next. -
dont sweat it, ak is just ripping on CCTV equipment, he's an IP camera fan boy. psst. and that darn bug!
-
i would suggest perhaps getting to know the system at your location prior to installation, then maybe you wont get so stressed when someone is out working and doesnt have the time to reply within 24 hours.

Have you read these: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=3287 http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=12156 As mentioned, also set a static IP on the DVR.

Twist ons for me. Never had a problem with them. Tip: If one cant hang from their twist on connection then it isnt done properly. And since they want you to use Compression Fittings, are they: 1-Cooling the DVR correctly? 2-Using Voltage Regulation? 3-Using Vandal Proof Cameras? 4-Using Vandal Proof Cable? 5-What about the Power connections? 6-Making the criminals not wear masks? PS. Twist ons cost $6 here so imagine compression fittings, probably like $60 per camera!

Hi, this may be what you are looking for. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=75274 Though it may be cheaper just to run 2 cables and use a cheap electronic store AV switcher.

Isn't there a good all around camera that exists!?
rory replied to 3RDIGLBL's topic in Security Cameras
AGC will also typically make it brighter during the day time. -
i can only speak for the GE PTZs, but in that case with Geo it worked fine. Only thing is that for decent control and speed you will want the Manufacturers Controller, the PC control of the camera should be secondary.

if its pitch dark how are the employees doing whatever they are doing? Also, if you dont think it will scare them away, maybe consider using motion detector lights, then you can use any camera.

Try turning down the Iris on that Pano a bit, I had to do that with one recently. Also make sure the housing front glass is clean. -
No such thing as the "best" camera, but take a look at Extreme CCTV or as mentioned Flir.

Opinions please on a good Day & Night -Bullet- camera.
rory replied to dmor's topic in Security Cameras
Day Night bullet cameras will vary so much depending on the location of the camera, so really there is no one camera for every application. (IMO) one of my recent tests: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=12063 -

It should have an OSD that allows changing the camera settings, the camera itself not the DVR. Ive used many cameras in the past and the images vary, some have been great, some not so. Lately alot of the cameras have been coming out with less than adequate quality IMO. I think they are just all jumping on the bandwagon with OSD, DSS, etc, and trying to add as many messed up features they can add, most of which cause other standard features to back fire. I dont know that camera, but check for the OSD, 4 buttons on the camera (maybe 1 in the center of those to bring up the OSD menu), or take a look at the manual on how to use that. It should have an OSD which lets you disable DSS, and other non standard features, OR enable something that may be disabled. I would try the settings on the camera first, also check that it is focused, as its not always. MegaPixel would be nice, but if you are looking for decent non Megapixel quality cant beat Wide Dynamic Box cameras from a brand like Panasonic, and using separate IR such as from Extreme CCTV. BTW i would be able to use that guys face as evidence down here, even though slightly blurred. Just remember you are dealing with Bullet cameras, these are basically cheaply made OEM products. I know they arent really cheap, to me and probably you also, but compared to say Panasonic and Extreme CCTV, they are alot cheaper than those type of cameras. Although one bullet camera came bad in a couple I ordered, I did like CNB's True Day Night bullet, it had little to no settings so was more plug and play, and how Bullet cameras should be IMO, and how they USED to be. CNB is typically cheaper than Nuvico and others as CNB is the actual manufacturer, something like KT&C. Here is a recent thread that might interest you. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=12063 And a whole bunch here: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=6122 -
I stuffed a camera with silica packs before and it still got a load of condensation so ...

scorp and rick yall 2 got an intros competition goin on aye? welcome to the forum.

Actually Geo's is pretty easy to obtain. I give Avermedia props for responding to email though which geo has issues with, and even sending the SDK on request, which Geo does not. Now thats out of the way .. Geo's is much better IMO, I found Avermedia's liked to 'crash' alot, and was very limited in comparison to Geo's features. In the end I found Avermedia's SDK basically unusable, this was just a few months ago. It disappointed me greatly, hopefully this will change in time as they get those bugs sorted out. BTW it had many exact procedures of the Geo SDK, even named identical, but missing alot of the useful ones such as most events.

The gradual fogginess is a good sign of condensation. I would definitely try to get a look at that when it is occuring, even if someone else at the location has to look at it for you just by looking at the camera's glass close up (dont stare into the IRs though, do it when there is plenty of light or power it down). Also when you say siamese is that RG59 (coax)?
-
To the OP. Make sure theres no water getting into it. Check for condensation when this condition occurs. Verify the cables and connections are not too close to any high voltage wires or devices. What type of wiring is being used? Are the connections terminated properly? Where are the connections (eg. gangbox, attic)? Is this happening with any other cameras there? It looks alot to me like condensation though. (or steam?) if that is what it is, open it up and let it dry out for a few hours. Close it up and seal good. Ive had this problem with some bullets right out of the box. @ dmor I havent tried that specific camera as it replaced the ones I have used. I wasnt happy with the previous ones, I mean they were ok but they had issues, and one out of 3 came bad in one order (IR Cut switch over was messed up and there was no fix). But with any True Day Night Varifical camera you need to focus it in low light, not pitch dark but also not in the day - if its extremely cloudy as in some countries (not ours LOL) then you could get away with daytime, but I find it best to just take it in a garage during the day time with full sunlight outside, close the door and focus it there, light on, focus, light off, focus (with IR off then on), then verify the focus with light on and also outdoors, while outdoors in the full sunlight you can then adjust the IRIS if it needed. In my case i can just kick open my garage door and spin around pointing the camera outside, so I can knock out a bunch of them quickly. Once the camera is already mounted it all becomes more difficult.

How does it look when you plug the Camera into a CRT TV or CCTV CRT Monitor? Remember the best quality will be on a CRT composite device. LCDs will distort as it is composite to VGA converted. Anyway, did you focus it or just installed as is? Disable DSS and any other strange features. Did you change any settings? Its either a setting on the camera that can be changed, out of focus/iris setting, or a bad camera (which is common these days). If you have another camera try that one and see how it is. If they are all the same cameras and all like that, then its probably a setting. In the future though look for a camera that doesnt have DSS as those seem to be more problematic with all the additional OSD functions they throw into them. (IMO) If you want a wide shot and facial recognsion then you may want to look at megapixel IP cameras, would need to revamp the DVR side though. @ Scorpion, could look alot better. Though even with a recent GE box camera i had similar distortion, it would not focus properly either - bad camera, exact problem, no idea - bought new camera and chucked that in the garbage. -
Ok since it works on that demo DVR, then that means your browsers java are working fine. This should mean then that the problem is on your DVR side. Check the quality setting for the Java app on the Webcam server, should be 25% default i think. Maybe lower that and try again. Also check your upload connection.

I think the whole world knows my view on WizKid by now.

Extremely disapointed with Extreme repair service
rory replied to Gesualdo's topic in Security Cameras
Yeap. A bunch of EX82s that one lady purchased (addition to existing ones) all but one the photocells have gone bad on. All of her older Ex82's photocells still work fine. Dont know what they are dealing with now, doesnt look good. Perhaps the takeover by Bosch will help them? Although they are sending replacement photocells at no charge. But they never sent them and she had to call them back a few weeks later to remind them. Waiting now.
