Its an Ultra Portable BTW .. can almost fit in the pocket I just dont see any poiunt to things like PDAs etc, Ive had them, and they are just too small to be useful IMO.
-
I prefer the Eee PC Developers and end users can do alot more with that. As for the phone part, I have a land line. As for the cell phone part, I dont use them anymore (hurts my head). But if I did, unless it had a flash light, I wouldn't even look at it, as my Nokia has a flashlight built in So Iphone for me? No thanks. They couldn't give it to me free, I would resell it to pay for more ram or something useful.

not my cup of tea, too small and too unproductive. maybe they should look at some software development for macs, which is Actually a useful size.

HDD Failures will lesson if one uses a decent Voltage Regulator. Ive never yet seen a hard drive fail inside a PC thats been connected to an AVR. Heat could also be a suspect, but really, my hard drives spin just fine in my apartment which is like 100+ degrees almost all year long. Every PC hard drive failure Ive seen was due to power.

I did this with a linksys wireless bridge and router a month or so ago .. not that hard in the end. It has to be static, leave the ports all default. You have to set it up on the Router first, make sure that works, check port forwarding, then setup the wireless bridge, thats the fun part

save your money, just get a "True" Day Night bullet, any OEM brand, they are basically all the same. Otherwise try the EX82 In fact, if all you are looking at is that in the picture above, then a Color IR camera should suffice.
-
if you used the features in that Nubix, you will laugh at some of the others. It has some cons though and those are also listed.

this is probably alot better than the DM and a third the cost: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=12575

No such thing as the "best" DVR. There are great ones and there are bad ones, and even some inbetweens, but in most cases it simply depends on what features one needs, and what one can afford.

dont forget about my 1000TVL Analogue BW CRT Monitor i've had for .. shoots 7 years now

Never judge a camera by the picture you get over the network.

Nuvico can not match up with ExtremeCCTV hardware... C-mon guys... Extreme and Wizkid are 2 totally different product lines and quality. The WZ products are no diff from any OEM from Asia, actually worse IMO.
-
IMO the Nuvico's are better than the WizKids. They are both pretty much the same otherwise, IR, etc. EDIT. I used the WZ18 as a comparison to the Nuvico's, the WZ16 I think are just a Color IR Camera, not a Day Night?

LOL pretty lame security .. and then other workers .. why didnt they grab the guy ?? Soon as he threw that monitor I would have tackled him and tied him up with something.

Oh yeah and to answer the OPs post, bottom line is it depends on Budget and how experienced, or at least how confident you are, with PC parts and or learning how to adjust cameras - course a cheap bullet camera needs little adjustment, but selecting the right camera for the job can use some knowledge and experience. Ofcourse the forum is here for these reasons so ask away. How good are your parents with the PC, if you arent there they will need to know what to do in the case of .. whatever .. eg. Windows doesnt come back up ..DVR stopped recording .. or the cops need to get video off it. In other words are they PC literate? If not, then best bet is with a basic stand alone DVR, nothing too fancy in that area either, as they themselves can be confusing also.
-
Wow at this thread! Anyway my quick 5 cents. There's places where PC DVRs cant go, and a stand alone can (depending on the DVR ofcourse) such as hot dusty environments, small closet shelves, etc. Cost of a basic stand alone DVR is almost 1/4 the price of a basic PC DVR (using decent enough parts ofcourse). There are places where I would definitely prefer a PC DVR also, I can change the parts if they go bad, in country and fast, the features blow away even most of the expensive large brand name stand alones - mind some more expensive yet PC DVR priced equivalent OEM stand alones of late have highly impressed me with their features. I get alot of emails, Scorpion knows, those $50 DVRs from Asia for example. It might not have LAN, but hey it doesnt crash either, it just records and thats about it, hence Digital Video Recorder. But its not your GeoVision DVR thats for sure - its near featureLESS. Anyway, we've been through this over the years quite a few times, it really depends on one's clientel, and support one can get and or give on the product. A $50 DVR is great but useless if its going to cost us $150 to ship it back anytime it goes bad. If we sell 5,000 of them though, and only a couple go bad, we made out good enough to afford that expense. PC DVRs .. oh yeah .. was buulding them for a while as many know, and supporting them, writing the odd software for them, etc, mainly GeoVision. Anyway, lately you would goto order PC Parts and the next day they are gone, out of stock or discontinued - then you need to order completely different parts. Its really annoying. less you prebuild dozens of them, its tough keeping up with the hardware these days, and pricing too. Building to order became pointless to me, I stopped selling them for now. But ofcourse look at where I live .. tings different down here dred.

Is there anything in the Device Manager with a yellow Question or Exclamation mark next to it? Also provide specs on the PC. Anyway, -Go into your bios and set the defaults, save and exit. -Right Click on the C Drive in My Computer, Properties, Tools, Error Checking, Check now. -Defrag -Download Windows Cleanup! and change the options to Standard, run (not demo) then log off -Download CCleaner Portable and run the Cleaner and The Registry tools, fix all issues. -Restart and see how it is. -Goto the Services list and arrange by Start up type, see if any set to AUTOMATIC have not started. Send us some reports: -Goto Start, Run, msconfig, Boot.ini - check /BOOTLOG and click apply then Restart -the Boot log file will be called: NTBTLOG.TXT and is in the Windows Folder -Download HiJackThis from TrendMicro, run a scan and save the report (dont send to Trend Micro) -Goto the Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, and Right click save log file for both Application and System. -Goto the Services and Export the list. -If you used Nlite, save the Nlite Session file somewhere (not the _U one). -Also check the Setup Error log and if not empty, save that - C:\Windows\setuperr.log -Zip and upload these files so I can take a look at them.

The Bush and Keg of beer will be fine thanks Oh yeah, make it a cold Keg though PS. great idea! -
Yes, and Digital Recorder Look, Im all for higher quality, and that in the form of MegaPixel cameras (I wont mess with any basic IP cameras), but all Manufacturers, CCTV and IP cameras, need to get up to speed. The products coming from CCTV camera manufacturers these days have degraded in manufacturing quality and performance, and the IP cameras have their own list of problems, not to mention hardly any manufacturer can provide proper demos of their products short of amazing marketing hype. Im tired ... its all a game to most manufacturers these days, and it seems its the same with the NVR and DVR's also. The industry has gone down hill over the past few years, and there are people entering it for only one reason and thats money, with little to no appreciation of the actual purpose nor the time to learn it properly, just hope it gets better and not worse as it has been.

Once again, it is a Transmission, the camera is STILL DIGITAL.
-
That has nothing to do with it. Point is, there are NO Analogue CCTV Cameras, unless you can find one for us? Where is the link to this Analogue CCTV camera? You are confusing video transmission with the camera itself, which are 2 separate things.
