True .. yes they do limit us though short of them giving us their code, we're stuck with that .. as well as ActiveX controls. Developers just have to get more creative is all, by creating alot of their own procedures, as most already do BTW, Test your XP Boot time: http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?pid=245244#p245244

Thats all I could think of, but in your link you mentioned Physical security. Only software developers should be concerned. An API gives us access to source code provided by the creator of the API, the most common being the Windows API. A single API can have various functions, for examples: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_API Declare Function RegCreateKey Lib "advapi32.dll" Alias "RegCreateKeyA" (ByVal hKey As Long, ByVal lpSubKey As String, ... Declare Function RegCloseKey Lib "advapi32.dll" (ByVal hKey As Long) As Long

Are you talking about Software API's?

Black line taking up lower part of vid from Pano CCDs in Geo
rory replied to rory's topic in Geovision
Doubt its the graphic card. Anyway I dont have easy access to the DVR right now as its locked away in the clients office. But sent Andy an Avi file to let them check it out. Strange how on the other DVR (1120) which also had black borders all around it after upgrading to 8.12, when downgrading to 8.10 it then only had a single black border at the top in multiview, but still had all the black borders in single view .. but it didnt have it before when it was only 8.10 and was not yet upgraded ... Anyway .. will wait and see. I noticed before some strange things with the black video spaces in 8.10 and 8.12 before .. even going to 8.2 didnt seem to solve them .. where it would be a black border even on the Video Loss and No Video boxes .. something definitely up in these new versions .. dunno. -

yeah he posted dozens of spam messages last night .. oh well he's gone now .. -
ask Scorpion though to confirm. If changing the recording settings effect the remote video then its not separate.

Is it a Distributed power supply, or a single plug in transformer? Maybe the cameras power board doesnt reset or something. Do you also have to reset the DVR or just the cameras?

what DVR is it on? What Cameras and how are they powered?

Dont know, but dont think so, least not for their budget DVRs, same with Avermedia.

Hi, first, it is mostly dealers/installers that keep this forum alive. They are the ones that are in this business day in and day out, there are a few long term end users and they must be commended as well. Also, If one is going to buy an old product then thats a chance they have to take. Ebay is well known for cloned cards, as is China. Its no conspiracy, it is how it is, I personally have received endless emails from Chinese companies with their price sheets, listing Geo, Kodicom, and previously AnyKeeper illegal cards - at rock bottom pricing - then they have their legal card versions of those as well. Ofcourse this is mostly spam emails just sent to my website contact email, and ofcourse I dont do any business with them. Typically, with Kodicom, they dont sell the cards to end users, so automatically when that topic comes up, its locked as it is considered a pirated card. For GeoVision, harder to tell. Typically the pirated Geo will: 1-Be 7.05 version or lower only 2-Come with an Unlabeled CD which rarely works or requires manual exploring to locate driver hacks and so forth. Basically it will look like someone just slapped a couple files and folders on there and didnt bother to tell the user what to do with it. 3-Not come with a user manual at all, or come with a copied one. 4-Drivers may not install at all or even if they do system can become unstable. 5-Price will be considerably lower than a genuine card. If its not a genuine card then its hard for us to help with troubleshooting, as the amount of Problems that can arise are too many. Not to mention that it is illegal so we cannot even consider talking about it. If it is a second hand card, not from a reputable GeoVision dealer, then again it will be hard to tell whether it is genuine or not. I dont see any hostility towards second hand cards though, perhaps Ebay, but thats a given as mentioned above.

Bottom line is though you can go by some of the specs, you wont really know until you actually hands on test the DVR, PC or StandAlone. Biggest problem I have found is the ones that dont separate the web server from the recording - so if you set the DVR Recording to D1 then the web server will be very slow, if you set the DVR Recording to CIF then you get real time remote video, but useless recorded video. Things like that, Look for multiple compressions or separate ones and look for any specs that say separate Web server. But really most wont even list that, most more expensive DVRs will have it anyway though, the cheap ones are the ones that typically dont separate it.

Yeah it is difficult to get at, though most like that are, but it was one of the more difficult.

Bottom line is to buy from a reputable GeoVision dealer. if they dont know a thing about GeoVision, then also dont buy from them.

Cops here do nothing, I had a client that had his gas station booth robbed( no gun just kept the gas attendant outside while someone else raided the cash drawer $5000.00) late one night. I gave them a picture ,camera was 6 ft away till this day nothing.... They come into work hang out get in there cars hang out some more hit on every skirt that passes by , and go home... I think they have a contest of which cop does less. Funny part is we have one chief with 2 or 3 assistant chiefs....... Gotta love it. Hmmmm .. so a huge CAT crane .. was being hauled down the main road this evening .. like 6pm .. it was taking up both lanes, no police escort and there was a guy running in front of it waving down cars to pull over so it could pass .. anyway it took out my neighbors entire front wall .. statues and all .. and kept going .. I called 911 and also drove to the local police station .. they didnt even move .. I drove out and followed the contraption which continued on for another 30 minutes .. tearing down trees as it went along the road .. until it pulled in one side road and I followed it in (stupid me!). I asked the driver who was responsible for this as they knocked down my neighbors wall and since I was home at the time they would probably ask me if I saw anything .. NOTE this is like 45 minutes now from when I called 911 .. all the cops had to do was go to this main road, any part of it, then follow the broken tree limbs until they got to this crane thing .. but about 10 minutes after I arrived home ... sometime around 8pmish .. the cops just pulled up .. then when i went out to speak to them they was like tell the neighbor who or where I saw the contraption, when they ask me., . I was like WHAT .,. Boss this thing had the entire east side of the Island backed up with traffic congestion for a good part of an hour .. destroyed at least one person's wall and took out many trees, maybe telephone lines also .. and thats it??? They so useless here it aint funny no more!!

depends on the DVR's features but everything basically depends on the compression used as well as the allotted fps per camera and ofcourse, the internet connection.

rory replied to chanyickwai's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Go download Axis SDK as it is a free download, you can use VB6 or many other languages with it, and others. So yep, dont need .Net or C++. Thats a start BTW chanyickwai, helps if you already know a programming language. -
GV250 and GV1120 worked with that board (rev 1.0), so yes should be fine.
