Ok .. dont hurt your head with the other cameras .. we need you for the MegaPixel demos .. -
Before you fly someone out there, maybe get Ultra VNC on there and let someone check it remotely if they can, if not .. maybe see if theres already someone in the area that knows Geo enough to deal with it?

MegaPixel Cameras - Images and Demos

Just an FYI, That KT&C needs to be focused in low light as its clearly out of focus in that image. Also their Exview is nothing compared to Exview Chips used by other brands, tested their exview against another side by side and it was more like normal BW sensitivity (0.1 lux). Crisp image from the Arcont but why all the "texture" in the image, maybe just compensation for the low light? Also, since there are shadows there seems to be some light there, in fact quite alot going by the light levels in the KT&C's view (Exview BW can see alot more in low light than our human eye can), enough for a standard exview to do a good job .. so get out there and focus that camera already Nah .. I wouldnt bother, least not for a KT&C camera .. just keep the Megapixel images coming ... you found your new job on the Internet .. seriously though If I was in the US I would have done set up a site that did nothing but reviews of all cameras, DVRs, NVRs .. cant do it from here but I wish someone else would do it from the US .. they could make good money off it also while helping others out -
I just hooked up their NV3000 card, the cheap one ... anyway the software is all basically the same as the 1304 .. very basic .. quality seems a little better than the GeoVision but not when you have pixelised video from say low light and then the video set to 720x480 or 640x480 and you are only getting a few frames a second in live view .. the recording effects the live video in this case as well as the network .. Anyway .. will save that for another review .. Its worth the low cost so long as you dont have to support it

Nothing else I tried as yet .. but going to give the Intellicam 4 channel H.264 DVR a try .. ordering one next couple days ... PS. This DVR has no fan so its super quiet .. it has a slot for a small fan though which my colleague added just to test, but it made little diff.

I put it in a PDF file, download here: (This is just some screen shots of the Remote Software) http://www.bahamassecurity.com/eclipse/ECL-NUBIX-8DX.pdf My basic hands on opinion of the DVR at first glance, using it overnight: PROs 1-Full Featured remote software 2-Remote Playback and Admin 3-Motion Masking (local and remotely) 4-All settings individually selectable per camera 5-Popup, Beep, on motion or other event as well as Email, FTP, etc. 6-Playback locally has time line and thumbnail of video 7-Remote Playback by event, date/time, time line graphic 8-Multiple user accounts 9-Video Loop outs 10-3 internal HDD max., mirroring RAID 1 11-BNC, VGA, & S-Video 12-Separate Webserver 13-Browser & Client software 14-IR Remote Control 15-USB Backup 16-Remote software custom logo CONs 1-Price (not cheap) 2-Size (its huge) 3-30fps total record in D1 (240 in CIF but that is unusable as usual) 4-Keeps going into sequence mode (maybe i need more time with it) 5-Uses proprietary back up file type (has an exe format but that fails) 6-Remote video is slightly "faint" or off colored 7-Local Live view has some black edges on some cameras 8-Went to "sleep" on me one time, not sure about that yet. Overall, its a nice DVR with a really full featured remote software and administration. http://www.eclipsecctv.com/NUBIX8DX_security_DVR.html

Ahhh .. I never used it because the first couple times I tried it it would not connect or setup a new account .. so I just went with DynDns.org from thereon.

Dont believe everything you see on the manufacturer sites, in most cases the images are not from real world applications.

all you can do is have a good warranty and replacement cameras on hand .. when lightning strikes all bets are off! Surge protection doesn't even protect us down here against simple things like brownouts.

At the moment, no. Not unless Avermedia addresses the issues I sent to them regarding the following: 1-Separate the Recording settings from the Remote Video As it is, if you set it to high quality D1, it will only stream approx 3fps total and is very sluggish. As you drop the record quality then the remote streaming video becomes much faster with 30+fps in CIF mode over the Internet - but the recording quality is then so low it becomes useless - D1 or no DVR at all. 2-Need motion masking Even on low motion setting, it picks up everything, especially when it is windy. Right now, with 160GB and 4 cameras which are BW at night, set to D1 and Best quality, motion set to low and FPS set to 20 - I get 2 days! Buying a 750GB Drive to slap in there now but regardless this means the approx max you will ever be able to get will be around 7-9 days, as there is only room for 1 internal drive and the max supported size is 750GB. I would not suggest this for another outdoor application, indoors it should be okay once it is not a 24-7 business. 3-User Accounts Not quite as important as the above but you cannot change the user names nor add additional users - there are only 2, superuser and user. You CAN change the password but it is digits only. 4-ActiveX Control sluggish Very slow and sometimes crashes ... they have major work to do on this. 5-Remote Playback Very basic and almost useless if using D1 and Highest Quality recording setting as it is so slow you can barely load the thumbnails. Definitely need improvement there. .......... There are obviously alot of PROs and a couple more CONs but the main issues that would hold me back again is #1 and #2.

To be invisible to the human eye it needs to be approx 930nm+ .. most OEM IRs dont have that option, Extreme CCTV does but is not cheap. Basically that is a darker filter meaning there will be less light available for the camera also. With all IR sensitive cameras the IR spectral response of the camera will determine what kind of usable image you get in pitch dark with a specific IR illumination, and not all cameras are made alike - some will not even see 930nm for example. So that said if you want the invisible IR light then you also need a camera that can see it.

I used a device from Kalatel (now GE) a few years back called the RSM-1600, and were able to get video over the phone line .. its stuttery and low quality as you would see on TV news reports sometimes in the past, but it worked. The only reason it was used in that case was the owner didnt want anything on their local network. It is discontinued now though you may find some online for sale.

As mentioned it depends on the IR, but typically once it has an object to reflect off then you can get alot more coverage, perhaps the bleeding you are talking about? Many IRs will be way too powerful to place inside a small room also.
-
He means Sequencing .. yes only in single view as with most DVRs. Its a pity as with Remote video we can do it in quad at the least very easily, dont know why they dont do it on the DVR side.

I had the ECL-557H but it looks more like the 557A image on their site. I had the ECL-5H and the ECL-5V (older model Sony CCD). The H was a better image than the V but had issues on the Geo DVRs that the V did not. I had the ECL-557HDA .. doesnt say it is day night until you open the details page. All the same basically .. all pano CCDs, just diff lenses and housings.

on a side note their vandal bullet had a good image and came focused. Mounting and adjusting it though was another story. But the end result is a heavy duty bullet camera and even without an IR Cutfilter the colors are decent enough, however it cannot be adjusted as much as other bullets so it depends where you are mounting it. On another related side note, all these cameras mentioned were setup in the field mounted .. in other words I did not have time to prefocus/test prior to installation in this case .. which did not help the issues but it is a real world example. We have a couple more of the domes left over so i will see if they will let me bring it back here to test for a couple days and see if there is anything different I can do to them to get a better image.
