Yeah if it rains all the time where you live, Motion Detection recording could be effected depending on the DVR used. In that case unitize outdoor motions and better yet beams such as Optex. Low budget wont get you object tracking with a PTZ though. Also, camera on the roof, make sure you can get to it easily to clean it every time it rains. Day Night with IR on the roof, if its a high roof it wont see much, best to keep IR as low as possible (out of reach ofcourse).

Ones American and the other is Canadian .. but still should have distributors in your country. Also if its just a fridge, some bullet cameras would hold up (cant say for how long though), the following one I found in a Gas Station Cooler down here, where all the juices and pepsis are placed, seems its been there for a couple years, and it still works Its cheap though, but just using it as an example as you would probably want something with better quality. Water is even dripping off it .. I was surprised it was still working, and I wasnt going to try to open it either as it seems to be sealed pretty well http://www.eclipsecctv.com/ECL-596_security_camera.html

Using wall mount bracket/camera hanging from ceiling
rory replied to benf's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Maybe you can take the sunshield off and then just mount the housing upside down, if the camera has the support for both top or bottom mount. -

Cheap DVRs will use cheap fans, same with Cheap PCs. You can swap the fans out for better fans but have to get the same size. Do you know what size fans are installed in it?
-
A decent one can cost alot more than that, and wont power most cameras .. properly. Might as well just use a single 2 Amp plug in power supply that costs $10 in that case - no individual isolation or fuses though, so once it goes, all go.

50-50 chance of major interference .. on and off or all the time.

Main reason is because you get a further Zoom, sometimes for less money. Many now come with 1/6" CCDs now also.

image problem about xtreme EX82 Infrared Imager camera
rory replied to tsiangw's topic in Security Cameras
does this occur in BW or color mode, or both? It has 2 separate cameras which is why I ask. Also, how old is the camera? How is the camera powered? What cable and distances are used for power and video? -
Man i just keep leaning back to them .. for high end apps ... I can get write my own custom network software for high end clients .. I can write my own Pocket PC application for it ... Rock Solid non PC, non Linux RTOS ... Power Ful Network Software- as far as RTOS DVRs go .. Price isnt bad for what it is ... A name that isnt going anywhere soon ... Kalatel (GE) can definetely can do better, but ... and this is also after programming a couple DMs over the past couple weeks .. including today ... they just dont compare to the Kalatels ... $2600 for a 6 channel Digital Sprite from DM ... darn!! And Kalatel kicks it to the floor on ease of use, features, and network software. The Asian DVRs including RTOS Linux, PC based, XP embedded, etc, wont give me an activeX or SDK, plus price on the 120-240pps Stand alones are more or the same as the Kalatel DVRs ... but have those major drawbacks listed above. Darnit ... one thing .. I want to write my own app so I can label it with my Companies name .. just the darn app, not even the DVR case .. but ..seems only Kalatel wants to do this for us ..at least in the line of DVRs that I have been investigating ...which are many .. this doesnt mean I wont sell or use the others I have been looking at, just .. for high end apps, I need to be able to write my own apps .. just in case. This is where i have an edge over the competition .. without it ... why bother ..??

They can do as they like, people will simply switch to another brand.

Installer monitor that's worth the money?
rory replied to sinbad's topic in General Digital Discussion
You cannot properly focus a CCTV camera with an LCD monitor. You either need a focus meter, or use a CCTV CRT Monitor or TV. -
Yeah .. Vista by default can take way longer to boot compared to XP. I used it for a couple days, tweaked it to the bone, and it was still slow, even with 3GB DDR2-667 and a Core 2 Duo 2.0 2MB Cache. Went back to XP and was flying .. literally Now when I can boot Vista in 16 seconds like I can XP on my 900 Mhz Eee PC with XP pro SP2 .. then I will submit

Top 10 Open IP Video Management Software
rory replied to securityme's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Many SDKs are considered "Confidential" from the manufacturers, which would explain a major lack of open source in that regard (well at least for DVRs, not sure about IP cameras though you typically cant just download an API/SDK from most of them) -
What MFR Hard Drive do you have Installed?
rory replied to magicsid's topic in Digital Video Recorders

hate to say it but they are pretty much all the same, in fact the Wizkid has the varifocal levels outside of the camera. Out of those 2 and the Eclipse I used the Eclipse in the end on a recent job where I tested all 3 (and the CNB). But I have both at 2 separate locations (WizKid and the Nuvico) and they both are okay as far as water goes, in these 2 cases anyway.

First this is free stuff, nothing for sale, and no malware or adware included. Its just an idea for a project. Just a very simple thing to give you an idea of what I am thinking about .. Should work fine on all XP machines. Let me know what you think. This is ofcourse mostly going out to the dealers but there are some end user geo enthusiasts also that might be interested in a project like this. Perhaps called a Virtual DVR? Could load motion jpegs from recorded files the admin imports into the program (stored in folders, AVi to BMPs to Jpegs) or just play the AVIs or WMVs inside the windows. Playback (Video Log) could ofcourse just be the EzViewLog program as mentioned in my Free Software thread, or could make a demo for that also so it will work in other resolutions. Download and just run: http://www.bahamassecurity.com/geo/GeoDemo.exe (requires VB6 runtimes, it extracts and registers the sstab control if not installed on the users PC already which is default). Here is an ISO for Virtual PCs http://www.bahamassecurity.com/geo/GeoDemo.iso Only Exit Button and Settings, System Configure, actually do anything. But its just a visual, nothing can actually be changed ofcourse - yet. Im still working on other software but had the idea so put something together really quick to see what could be done.
