No idea on what they are set to, I am going by the only demos available on certain H264 DVRs offered by resellers or OEMS. They are probably as you and normicgander mentioned, over compressed, lowered bitrates. They should at the least provide other optional compression methods though, but either way, I would still like to see some of the video or image samples, NOT in 320x240, from these amazing DVRs. Im a hard head to sell to though, quality is more important to me than any other feature (which is why I may be making more of a move towards MegaPixel when the price drops on those). thanks for the info though and keep it coming
  2. Also take a look at the Avermedia DVRs .. particularly the EB1304 NET, search the forum for further info on those. As to cameras, best quality would be achieved from Box cameras, so long as you are nor worried about vandalism, check out Sony, GE, Sanyo, Bosch, and Panasonic. The ceilings look high enough, and cost is fairly inexpensive on professional box cameras and lenses these days. Rory

Anything that came before it, eg Mpeg4, MJpeg - size of video does not bother me anymore, quality does. Ive yet to actually see any decent video from an H264 DVR .. there is ALOT of hype and marketing .. but no actual D1 images or video that show it is better than others. It is definitely more compressed and great for remote video, but other than that .. Anyone can SAY it is great .. but seeing is believing, and it seems not one DVR that uses H264 can find the time to provide some real samples yet. Once again .. I await marketers to actually provide some video and images to actually show us how good their H264 is, as we know compression differs from one to the next Remember also that the cost of Hard Drives is not an issue anymore. Bottom line is, I want to see some of this great quality we are hearing of, as so far all that i have seen is less superior in quality to older Mpeg4 or Mjpeg. If they want us to spend money, we cannot go on their word alone, least I do not. PS. BlueRay, DVD, etc, totally different ballgame from CCTV DVRs, I dont do that kind of stuff and honestly i never use them.
  4. Sounds like you're doing a small area .. Im doing a 100' driveway, 100' one way and 100' the other way .. I have them mounted in dark areas, looking to bright areas .. the IR actually is not even needed in my case, just the BW. This is where they dont work to well as they cant handle the glare from all that lighting, coming from a dark area, as well as the Eclipse can. They are both not good when zoomed at TELE (in this location), but the Nuvico is even worse with extremely high contrast - need to be able to sustain DAY/Night mode without having AGC on - that is the cameras biggest problem as it requires AGC be enabled for switch over to BW. Not to mention the one that came fault right out of the box which had the IR cut filter problem, but I did fix that myself in the end. As for IR, it has equal the amount as the Eclipse, at double the size of the camera. Its OSD is also a real pain. Both the Eclipse and the Nuvico's have more IR than the CNB. Then again, when all is said and done, cant expect an Ex82 for the price of these cameras

video monitoring software with GV cards HELP

Yes, see this thread about webpage based viewing: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=12027 See the LiveX Installer post, add a link to that on your main page (download and host it on your site), and then check the last post in that thread for all examples in a zip file.
  6. Nlite, but what you remove will depend on the DVR. It will take time and learning of said DVR to get it right. Although you can test it in Virtual Box, the DVR Card is not in there, so thats not the real test. Otherwise you can just install default XP then tweak it And turn off certain services that will never be used.

video monitoring software with GV cards HELP

With SimpleVue, though not a replacement for a CMS application, you can create multiple folders and just change the settings for each one. Eg. Copy and Rename the SimpleVue folder to Cam1, make another copy and call it Cam2, etc. Change the settings in each folder to the respective camera, and then just make shortcuts to the EXE files in each folder and place those shortcuts somewhere like on the desktop. You can even change the Icon of those shortcuts, for example browse for an icon file like this one which has a ton of Windows Icons: C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll

video monitoring software with GV cards HELP

Hi, have you tried GeoVision's CenterV2 or CMS software yet?
  10. Dove, most IP Camera manufacturers provide some form of SDK/API/OCX, you should be able to utilize that somehow, if not for the compression at least to save a really short clip. Personally Ive never worked with any of the IP Camera/Server APIs so cant say though. With DVR OCXs I have used though is as simple as just saying SaveToFile then Stop it after X amount of seconds .. grab the file and its properties using your own code and then look for the Video Compression.
  11. other than using the IP camera manufacturers API's/Procedures, perhaps save a very short clip then get the file specs and its Video compression.
  12. ok 5% .. see time stamp .. yeah she slow.
  13. Not that it probably matters, but I can download that file from the Bahamas PS. but it is very very slow ... hmmmm .. 1% and maybe 2% .. no still 1%

KT&C Pinhole camera for very low light?

Do the diodes have to be connected to the camera? KT&C's BW EXVIEW bullet is not very low light, so I doubt the one you mentioned is either.
  15. Hi, does it also happen if the camera is connected to a monitor and not the DVR?
  16. Sony CCDs come in all kinds of cameras, prices, and quality .. typically that would still be budget cameras. But yeah you could still sell them a better system than that .. even if using budget CCDs.
  17. No, that is expensive for that .. even would be cheaper in the bahamas where we pay 42% Customs tax plus about $150 average shipping! although .. what type of capture card again?
  18. Maybe goto the owner with a better idea .. as mentioned by jisaac .. tell him you would also like the option to quote them better systems .. if they decide on the cheap ones and you are happy just slapping those in for $100 .. so be it .. they got the product they paid for .. though I still think $100 labour is way too low.
  19. Hey whats up .. The 598 is a much better camera. This might have more IR and a 5-50mm lens, but its a low resolution 1/4" camera with off colors in the daytime due to no IR cut filter. In otherwords it will look "okay" at night in low light due to the IR (once there are no spotlights or anything that can cause alot of glare), but awful in the day. Its definately a step down IMO. If you need something good with 5-50mm lens and that much IR you will unfortunately need to spend much more $$.
  20. If that includes running the wire, personally I would never take the job. Actually if I didnt have to run the wire, I still wouldnt do it for $100.
  21. Better DVR, Better Cameras, Better Cable.
  22. How far are the camera runs?
  23. Well dropped the Nuvicos as they would just not do the job at the location, the Eclipse ECL-596HIm was actually the better out of all I tested .. for this location. Also see a posting on this thread regarding that. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=77395#77395
  24. If their BW exview bullet camera is any indication of their night time images, you might want to look at another brand. In fact most of them are garbage these days. Out of most of the main OEM brands (as thats all there is in the Day Night IR Bullet camera range) after testing several of them all in the same location the other night, the best image I got was from an Eclipse ECL-598HIM bullet camera - still wasnt great though. See the other thread about that, but the test included the Nuvico, CNB, WhizKid True Day Night IR Bullets, and also the KTC BW Exview, at the location. Only one that barely handled the extreme too much and too little lighting condition was the Eclipse, the rest just looked nasty. Well actually the CNB was not bad either, but I only had 2 and the 2nd one broke as soon as I went to adjust the focus, so that was out of the question - the 1st one was good though .. but still not as good an image nor did it have any worthy dip switch settings (had to take it apart to get to them actually). Nuvico's was good in the day and in pitch dark, but under varied lighting at night, image was no good, car lights and bright street lights blinded it, dark areas, remained dark and it would not go into BW completely nor use Full IR as it kept trying to compensate which caused lots of pixelisation. Never say never though, as it looked fine at my home .. didnt like the clients location is all. As to the KT&C, that day night was probably the only other one I didnt test in this range of well known OEMs. I lie, there is also provideo . .. but they are double the price. Basically manufacturers need to go back in time and take out some of their "new" technology so that they will make their cameras GOOD again .. all this new crap they are putting in them now is simply rubbish in most cases. Luckily the Eclipse model hasn't "evolved" that much .. yet.
