    hard drive failures - help!

Ive used Western Digital for several years now. All hard disk drives can fail though, make sure you have the DVRs on a Voltage Regulator. Some UPS come with it AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulation) built in.

Experiencing all this fun on the Eee PC 2 and 4Gs right now .. we just disable the Page file though, but for Geo .. not too sure about that

nah id say the person that mounted the sign was in the wrong on that one
  4. I have 8.2 here now on a DVR, if someone has a compatible IP camera online I could test it out and try to capture the screen (or use my digital camera).

Problem with geovision and sony hq1 cameras

sorry video is like 200+mb so I need to trim it down, not tonight though, here is a comparison between the camera with the problem and another cheap camera, same exact location and same port on the GV650 card. Its a given that the camera is a piece of nanny also, but the blue and washy image is what bothers me, it doesnt show up when connected directly to a monitor, just pixelisation as the camera cant handle the outdoor light level.

Yes the web manager is remote/networked video, Avtech DVRs suck at that as far as quality goes, no idea why (with the browser I can understand as it uses Java), but I told them that before and it has not been updated as yet it seems (havent used one in a while). The actual live quality on a local monitor is not bad, its simple and basic. If using an LCD it will be worse, as with any DVR. But quality on some LCDs will be much better than others, so that makes a big difference also.

Problem with geovision and sony hq1 cameras

I wonder if one could downgrade the firmware on the cards to older firmware .. then use the 7.xx version instead .. the more things advance the worst they get it seems .. Thats another reason I havent released my new software yet, lots of bugs (issues with the 8.0 activeX from Geo also) .. unlike MS and the rest that just drop it out there .. I will wait until its completed

Might be able to get that to work with older versions .. worth a shot. There is a program from MS on the Pro CD in the Support Folder, called Depends, lets you view a files dependencies. From there you can see all the other files that it depends on, then see which ones they depend on, and so on so forth. I wish geo would offer at the least Remote View log as an add on option for some older versions, even if its based on sending Geo a serial number from the card so they can make sure it is legit. Many people will never use all the other features they added in 8.xx.

Yep .. its the rock bottom of DVRs .. good for the price but Remote video quality sucks. Anyway, check out the Avermedia 1304 Net. Also, what was your actual disliking with the AvTech?

Yes, once you a DVR that has LAN. With the PC based ofcourse most if not all will have that feature. With Geo you can use browser based or client based apps.

Problem with geovision and sony hq1 cameras

Back to 7.0 with my Geo Skinz maybe? Tell you what I will do, I have a PC DVR here now I just built, and a GV650-4 card, I will get some video and images from AmCap and Geo and see what kid of difference there is. I will also load a couple Older Geo's. Unfortunately might be a firmware issue with the cards also, but will see. I also have an older GV250-2 I can test.

Problem with geovision and sony hq1 cameras

yep Im getting tired now .. seems the more camera manufacturers "advance' the worst things get .. all that OSD and DSS stuff is not needed either .. they need to go back to basics and get those kinks worked out ... as for DVRs ... well I would like to hear back from Andy on that. If the picture quality is going to keep getting worse on the Geo's and other DVR cards, or have issues like this with certain cameras, then whats the point in using them? Now I have to take down one of my color Eclipse Cameras (which do work on the Geo but also look shabby on this "new" GV650) and give that to the client, and I will be without one of my cameras. back to the $100 standalones and a 13" TV?

get the standard D-type, or if you have room between the PCI-e x1 and the PCIex16 and have a decent PSU you could get the PCI-e card instead (uses PCI-e x1 and gets power from the PSU). Depends on the motherboard, what model is it? If you want to be "safe" just get the GV-800. As mentioned all 16 channel DVR Cards come with the "pigtails"

    Illuminator help

Are you talking about this camera: http://www.axis.com/products/cam_207/index.htm If so, I dont see it being Day/Night mentioned anywhere, infact it says it has a CMOS chip and 1-10000 lux, F2.0. Even without an IR Cutfilter, it doesnt look like a great candidate for an Infrared app. As for the Matrix IR, looks okay from the specs, 880nm and 15VDC, just make sure it is getting the correct voltage and amps.
  17. if it has a charger though and you plug that in, wont it stay on then?

Problem with geovision and sony hq1 cameras

Hi Andy, in my case it is the KPC-S230CHWWX, GV650-8, an MSI Motherboard Intel 945GC with onboard video. See image posted above, will try to get clips if you still need them, i still have the DVR here as not sure what to do yet.
  19. The Avermedia 1304 is definitely better local and remote quality than the Avtech, also more expensive. Never heard of the other one. if you need to view it remotely with a mac though, you would want something like the AcTech as that has a Java viewer and the Avermedia does not (as far as I know)

Solid State Drive for Windows Partition

They are actually slower, unless you buy the $2000 ones. Average Read/Writes are 24mbs and with a 7200rpm it can be 54mbs or more. Also there will be alot of writing to that with geo and its logs/database, and they have a limited lifespan.

    Geo 8.2 Problems or opinions

I installed it, other than the menu being an issue (when you click a sub menu it can temporarily bothersome as it overlaps another menu item), I dont see much of a difference. They have PAP and PIP, but as mentioned is pretty much useless for anything other than a MegaPixel camera. Noise reduction (cant remember the actual name) didn't do much but make the image worse quality (blur). The Driver installer program has an annoying fade in and out, like Vista. Didnt notice any speed up or slow down in switching between Live and Viewlog. Need more time with it, will be testing more tonight and tomorrow.

Problem with geovision and sony hq1 cameras

looks like I have the same issue here, but not sure what chip this camera has .. it claims 550 TVL though and CCD. KPC-S230CHWWX on a GV650. Its not great either direct into monitor, but all these blue spots and such only appear in Geo. Oh yeah, seems it one of those chips: 1/3" Sony HQ1 CCD/ 550 TV Lines So was there any feedback from geo on this yet? I tried 8.12 and had the problem so even just installed 8.2 and same problem. Sucks .. Distributors should also be made aware of this, I will try and contact the geo rep who is on the forum now, but if no go, then I will post a sticky or set this as one.
  23. well here is another piece of nanny I just bought, its a KPC-S230CHWWX color bullet. Going to throw it in the garbage as its useless.
