Limited user wont be able to install ActiveX. Log in as Admin then download and install the ActiveX, or install a client application and use Run As to login as an Admin (make sure Secondary Login service is running) They might have other services disabled which can stop it from working also.

Sounds like the old Active Tek brand .. is it them?

Ive seen that at some time or another in most bullet cameras. If it happens, need to let it dry out completely, then reseal properly, and some times requires caulk/sealer around the camera cable entry point.

BTW, I just now got my hands on 2 of the CNB Day Night Bullets, will see how they work, and compare to this Nuvico (wont be tonight though I dont think as I have to go out on a job). The camera model is the CNB-B2310NVF. So far they look really nice, easily attachable/detachable sun shield and mount. Rory

I dont have any noise, but its not pitch dark where it is located. Have one still in the garage to test though. The one out in the field, I disabled DSS and the other features, all I want is a True Day Night Camera with IR, those other features are a waste of time to me. You will need to adjust the IRIS though, mine came way too bright. I hate where they placed the focus adjustment also.

I have them outdoors, they work fine. Dont like all the settings they come with though, never liked the DSS and OSD rubbish personally. Anyway, yes will be find, water sealed, actually more weather resistant than a dome, if only due to the dome's base being exposed (short of caulking it all up).

There will be a ton of DVR software using that file extension, in most cases it will just be a name the developers gave the extension. That said, seen it recently with a DVR from a PowerTelecomm DVR http://www.powertelecomm.com/ I didnt have the DVR myself so not sure which one it was exactly. The actual name is probably just a name someone gave it or the name of the site (maybe like Stork Burger King?)

Hi, as Andy mentioned Intel Chipsets are recommended, this means no AMD. Please see these threads: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=8059 http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=8971 Note: I have used the GV250 in the past on a Via chipset without issue, but only had luck with that particular card, and using 7.xx version. I have not tested any other versions of card or software on the Via Chipset and I would not recommend it when even Core 2 Duo systems are very inexpensive now. Even the newer P4 3.0Ghz runs cool on the newer chipsets, just built one the other day and it was running around 27 degrees celcius (CPU). Ive used 300 watt PSUs in the past also.

Added an ISO image incase you want to test it inside Virtual Box or Virtual PC. Just mount as CD/DVD and it will then be accessible by clicking on My Computer and the CD/DVD Drive. Rory

Changed images to Jpegs to decrease the size of this sample.

Cool, yeah I was thinking of even making a mini version for the Eee PC which runs 800x480. Now that would be cool .. I just setup a couple of them the other day with XP SP2 and ordered one myself after that. Anyway, yes lots more that can be done also, the size of the file is due to the Bitmaps that are being used, 3 of them, and uncompressed. Not the ideal method and actually in this case I might switch it back to Jpegs for now as thats the original format I got the image in (from a thread here), Bitmaps would be used for higher quality, as are all the Geo Skin files. BUT, perhaps for portability we can loose some of that quality and go for size. Would also have to skin it all, not just include the files in the program which was done in this case just for an example of the idea. The System Configure window I actually had already created for a remote admin app I was working on a couple years ago, and never completed Anyway so had that form and just stuck it in there quick, made the menus up very quickly and that was that. Oh yeah, I appended the SStab Control as a default XP doesnt have that, some other programs may install it though but my program checks for all that and extracts and registers if needed. Self Executable to a degree ofcourse is required - I say degree as it still needs the VB Runtimes but those are included with XP (Unless you remove them with NLite or other). And dont need .Net installed! Since it is just VB6 The only other thing that worries me is the copyright stuff. Seeing as the image files are originally from Geo, I wonder how that plays out? Geo are you reading this? Andy? Incase they are reading it, this would ONLY be for a demo of what the DVR would look like, no actual DVR purpose, will never be able to operate a DVR card, it is just images and such. A Notice would be included on each Image that it is only a demo, or something like that (ideas?). I wish Geo would do something like this then I would not have to bother Anyone know VB6 or other and want to get involved? Rory

EDIT: I added 2 other resolutions, 1024x768 and 1280x800 (laptops). These are just resized images of the 1280 one and just for example (except the 1280x800 one I edited alot also to make it wide screen while still keeping the Geo look). Quality and all could ofcourse be alot better. Lets you choose your resolution when it loads. Updated file above.

yep but I still need to come up the PC .. maybe able to work that out though, meanwhile check out this post http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=11820

I use MSI, Gigabyte, and Asus .. all are good. I use MSI for the budget core 2 duo or P4 systems mostly, they work well though, no issues thus far.

Yeah I dont like the Pixem .. Maybe Panasonic sells OEM WDR chips?

New Home System Design Recommendations Needed

coming from the Bahamas where warranty is void the minute it hits the airplane on the way over here .. PC is easier the maintain for us .. something goes wrong we can go right down to a local PC store here and buy a replacement part, and fix it ourselves. Also you typically get more features and in the case of the Bahamas where we pay no duty on PC but 45% on Standalones, it is definitely much more bang for buck. This is one reason I switched from using Stand alones a couple years ago (other than for the budget jobs as you just cant macth the price of some 4 channel cheap DVRs). Also the PC based gives you higher quality and more flexible evidence sharing. The client should know the basics of using a Computer though, otherwise if they never want to touch the thing then just sell them a stand alone, or sell them when they need something done to it. -
Agreed, but don't market it as Internet-based or remote-accessible if you can't actually show it. Kinda silly to say, 'Yea, it's Internet accessible' while walking in with a monitor to demo. I actually have some analog cameras running from a Greyfox system. They look like crap, but the customer is replacing others first (not that they look like crap because they're analog, just that's what the guy from the yellow pages sold them). For costs, one problem is comparing apples to apples with analog to IP. What feature can an analog camera do that an IP camera cannot do? Are the cameras accessible if the dvr is down? Can the camera perform motion detection? PoE? Cabling flexibility? How's the wireless?....they shouldn't cost the same. There are certain differences, which also force different price structures. That's how the market works. There's a reason many good IP cameras are still more expensive.....people are buying them at that cost. City of Chicago bought almost 1000 Axis 233d's (ok, maybe bad example since it's government). But you can bet they looked at options, technology and future. Hi, we just recently had a pretty indepth discussion here: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=11651&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15

Hard to tell as due to the snow I guess everything is mostly dead that time of year there also right?

Yep, looks like no IR Cut Filter.

We will need those cables in feet please.

You could download the product brochure and just print the CMS page. No real images though but will give them the basic idea hopefully. Look at Page 6: http://www.geovision.com.tw/upload/en/DM_Booklet_2007.pdf PS. Geo really needs to work on their marketing.
