I have a real world scenario .. clients want to record but occasionally look at the 4 cameras over the network. Recording is a must. Budget is low. 2 of the cameras must be a Day Night with some IR (eg. at least 40-50'). 1 Camera must see in low light, eg. BW Exview, Day Night too expensive 1 Camera is color, cheap basic color. Cameras must be cosmetically appealing, well, SMALL (bullet cameras) Client does not need to see a face, they want to know what is going on. So basically considered IP cameras, but that would still require a PC to record to, and the IP cameras with Day Night and IR to 50' are not cheap, and are bulky in most cases. Price of cat5 to RG59 Siamese is about the same here in the Bahamas so cable cost is not an issue. There will have to be a Cable modem for both, but the IP Cameras require a network - there is another failure point - the switch - bandwidth - or just something else to go wrong. To end, the CCTV installation will be cheaper so that is what was chosen. Client had 2 other quotes from businesses that quoted IP cameras (probably not even megapixel) but they were well above budget. When Megapixel comes down in price I am certain we will be seeing more of that, as that is the quality we REALLY want. Linksys wrt54g + avtech760. Help remote View T_T
rory replied to asoy's topic in Computers/Networking
The Linksys default admin port is 8080 as well so if you turned that on it will cause an issue. Try changing the port to something else. -
LuxRiot is a good one for Generic cards (or brands with BT Drivers) and IP/webcams.
-
Dont forget NeverFocus and AmateurVideo's OEM DVRs. Oh yes the HiPoints also ... AvTeach do work but their lan do suck .. I have found some better ones for less than those but dont have the funds to bring them in yet .. The main ones that suck though, are those that are not free

Yes he seems like a real person unlike the other royals .. although its probably not their fault either. He probably just wants to be like everyone else, a nobody, a normal person, course we all know that will never happen. They should have sued that media company though.

Welcome Dave, And Scorpion, its cold in the Bahamas right now ..
-
They may have changed it and also not sure if it might differ from versions as I havent used the CD just the CT but ... 3477 was the default on most of the GE Advanced menus (i think, been a while) But yeah you need to get in the network section and assign the IP, Subnet and Gateway.
-
Hi, have you setup the IP, Subnet and Gateway in the DVR itself? If so, is that Ip the one that was used to port forward to?

Looking for viewer for PC that is not supporting ActiveX
rory replied to tonnymathieu's topic in Digital Video Recorders
You do need to install it on the DVR though. Also, Ultra VNC has something similar. tonnymathieu, why not use the remote client software that came with it? It is not browser based as far as I know. -
Here are another couple options, they will be based on geoVision but you can use them for other brands also: 1-Portable EZViewLog http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=9761 Ok you wont be viewing live video, but it gives them an idea of the most important part of a Surveillance system, the recording. 2-Virtual PC Create a Virtual PC with the EZView Log setup already, you can then stick than on your laptop or even create an ISO to burn to CD to give to Clients. Lots of options there. 3-GUI Demo Actually considered making this myself, not difficult either will just require some time. Basic EXE that mimics the main DVR's GUI. Slap in some AVI Files or even use a webcam for a single camera view on your laptop.

DVR Card Recommendation
rory replied to fran4383's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
It does appear you are selling cloned GeoVision cards though. Also, please refrain from any form of sales on this forum, same goes for all members. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=9805 Thanks. -
Ok I see the product you mean. But yeah they shouldn't be using Putty or Adhesive anyway, only silicon for sealing. Cant buy that product you posted the link to locally so have to use what you can

How do you guys get over the 300' Cat5 restriction?
rory posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Didnt realize it only goes to 300' (or 295'). Whats up with that, when we can use baluns and go over 1000' for video. Is this just a restriction with the IP technology, or is it a cat5 restriction? Is there other type of UTP cable that goes longer, or is that the limit with the switches etc anyway? Thanks Rory -
How is that tiny wire from the bullet camera going to go into that threaded conduit? The Bullet camera is not designed for that.
-
I dont use the threaded things for bullets at all .. works fine going on 6+ years In fact, the connection will most likely out live any bullet camera even if you just spliced it with tape and left it hanging in the rain 24-7. After all we are talking about bullet cameras, they have very small RCA type cables which cant be protected anyway. Its a cheap camera for a cheap job, I wouldnt bother too much besides putting the connection inside a gang box just for added protection and cosmetics. If you want more protection need a box camera and a proper housing.

Can you not change the 15 to 1 in the DVR? If not then you would need to login to the router and change it there instead. Has to be the same range so you can port forward it.
-
Seems so
-
or they could just wear a mask Also, that in the link will only work on BW Cameras or Day Night cameras where the IR Cut Filter has been removed. Also reading some of the comments there just amazes me at how many dumb people there still are in the world these days ...

talking about bullet cameras here

H264 hikavision card / ildvr
rory replied to bigbrother's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Please contact ILDVR on this matter. If DS-4008hci is not one of their cards though I doubt it will work. -
Kingwood, many of the best PTZ brands such as GE etc have their own protocols and require their own specific keyboards to work with them. Optionally one can however generally buy an adapter from them to use other controllers. I cannot speak for this VCL dome though as I know nothing of it.
-
The Nuvico True Day nights will be too large (heavy) for the average gang box cover, I mount them to the wall. There are holes already on either side of the gang box so could use one of them, as the BNC Connector still has to fit through anyway. Or drill a small hole by the cover then just fit it in that way.

Do you use Cat5 for video? What color is your cable jacket?
rory replied to C7 in CA's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Is dat the Internet? -
Well Im a mod so ... Plus yes monitor mounts would probably cost a bit to get down here, I still haven't sold the last demo someone sent me which cost me $300 in customs duty! If I hadnt spent $300 duty I might actually be able to afford to test it .. now I have to try to sell it to get that $300 back
