    Woohoo the cameras are here!

That depends on the local laws, and whether or not the neighbor cares.
  2. Yeah I saw that, but I have nowhere to put it myself, nore any housing or lens
  3. Everything should be on an AVR. Pick the size that your system needs. Some UPS come with built in AVR, so check that you dont already have it.
  4. Also make sure everything is on a Voltage Regulator, could also be from a brownout, power problem.
  5. In No Particular Order: Eclipse, KT&C, Nuvico, CNB have decent OEM cameras (eg. Bullets). As for Box cameras; GE, Bosch, Sanyo, Panasonic, Samsung Techwin. Extreme CCTV has some expensive but great Day Night IR cameras. There are obviously others but just picked the ones I know best. As for Dome Cameras, it will vary. Not every camera manufacturer has a camera for every application, you need to shop around; example, GE has a wall mount vandal proof camera called the Brute - nice for ATM apps or anywhere it needs to be flush wall mounted and vandal proof (yes it is practically unbreakable).

    aperature in ir zoom lenses

All 5-50mm's I have seen are F:1.3 or greater. I am a fan of Fujinon Lenses, also, Extreme CCTV uses that brand on many of their IR cameras.
  7. If DistributorsReps/Manufacturers would send me the cameras to demo AND pay for shipping AND Customs (42%), I would start a camera review web site!
  8. Yep sounds like it does what the code I have used does, just compares the images by pixels. So if there is a change, be it light or anything, then that could be motion to the app.
  9. If it uses the same code that I have used in the past, then that is typical. There are some other settings that can be done to tweak it, but only in the code side of it (unless they put that in the options), and still it doesn't work great. You need larger grid boxes though, or a smaller grid (eg. 16x16), that appears to me more than 32x32 and in tests will pick up just about anything, and also, depends on the other settings as well. I would even sometimes get motion boxes showing up which were nowhere near the actual motion. The code I used basically just takes 2 jpegs and looks for differences, the previous one, and the new one. Been a year since I messed with it so cant go into details on the specifics right now. Once again, not sure if it is the same "type" of code I have used, but it looks identical, except mine were red . there are tons of them out there for Webcams, I used almost all of them, the code itself, until I found something that actually worked very good. I just edited it to be used with Remote Video from a GeoVision PC DVR. Never actually used it yet in my software, was just testing. I have the code here somewhere, if you are interested - it may need more work though and obviously would need customizing for your application as I edited it for mine. if you only have 1 camera, try out Luxriot, their motion detection worked well last time i tested it. More here: (obviously I have tested the software you are using before, as mentioned in the following thread, but didnt seem to like it that much hence no comment!) http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2021
  10. DSR2000? Only one I know of is a GE Kalatel StandAlone DVR and it uses a client app called WaveReader. Is this the one or is it another brand?

    Compact Housing and lens suggestion

Fake Pelco Enclosures! LOL .. what will they think of to pirate next Thats just wrong man .. they need to at least say hey its a Pelco Look alike, but they cant say it IS Pelco. .. sounds like what goes on down here alot, they selling pirate everything these days .. thank fully us in the know realize what is and what isnt .. if its not pirated though, its a refurb and those are harder to tell the diff, other than the price. When they are selling an HP Printer, Scanner, Fax all in one for cheaper than a new one in the US, then there is shipping and Customs on that, its obviously refurbed then .. or stolen ofcourse .. but people down here dont seem to care and the sellers arent even telling them it is not new!
  14. thats cool, just make sure to staple one green card to my passport too

Here is a trimmed down version for memory conscious persons. No hotkeys, no icon, no log. Only 1 command, /FORCEDC. http://www.bahamassecurity.com/uploads/SleepFixTrim.exe
  17. Im sure someone will, when you say not too expensive, is this a budget job? First you need to see what they can afford. Then decide on the type of cameras needed, eg. BW, Color, Color/IR, or True Day Night. Then comes what type of camera such as Bullet, Dome, Vandal Dome, Box Camera, PTZ, etc. For example, in your first post, you mentioned Color/IR cameras, but do they really need that, as most cheap Day nights are just Color/IR and will not have an IR cut filter, and hence the color day time image will have washed out colors from the IR in the sun. A color only camera will have a fixed IR cut filter so the image will be better but may see nothing at night depending on the lighting situation there; again, depends on the camera used though, and the price does matter. Also cheap color/IR cameras wont really put out any IR worth talking about, at least for outdoors. So I guess check their budget, if you already know that, then move onto what they actually need. If there is always light in the area, then use Color only cameras, what type will depend on what they can afford and the mounting location. Some jobs also require cosmetics to be a high priority, so that may also be something to look at - some cameras can be just plain ugly! Then there is the issue of wiring, instead of conduit on a wall you may need to run wire mold instead, and that can bring the cost up 3 fold.

  20. What software are you using?
  21. 1-Test each camera on a single power supply at the camera itself plugged into a monitor there. If it still has a problem then its probably a camera issue (bad power board perhaps), or could be ... 2-Remove the camera from the ceiling and see if the problem goes away, if it does, then it may have been screwed into metal, or the cable is running too close to high voltage such as lighting (move the camera and the cable at least 1' away from any high voltage). 3-Try an Isolated Power supply, or try 2 separate power supplies, one for DC and one for AC. Some cameras need to be isolated. 4-Use single transformers on the cameras that are having the problems, if that fixes it, then they certainly need to be isolated.

    Building your own laptop computer

ok here is something to test, I say test as although it works for me, it may still produce errors or not work for others. Tested on my HP 6510b with put PC in standby set on lid close. No installer, just tested on XP SP2 (not tested on others yet but go right ahead). Requires VB Runtimes installed (XP has those). It ignores standby when you click shutdown, and also automatic standby set in the Power Scheme as x amount of minutes, as these do not trigger any display changes. Hot Keys: CTL-ALT-F7 = always suspend on dc (with or without external monitor) CTL-ALT-F8 = check for monitor on both ac and dc (default) CTL-ALT-F9 = add to start up (uses current exe file and path) CTL-ALT-F10 = remove from start up (removes any items with its title) CTL-ALT-S = manual suspend - query suspend method, not force CTL-ALT-H = hide icon from system tray CTL-ALT-V = show icon in system tray CTL-ALT-X = exit program Commands: (not case sensitive) /FORCEDC = always suspend on dc /HIDDEN = hides icon from system tray /NOHOTKEYS = disables hotkeys feature /NOLOG = does not use a log file By Default it will create daily log files under the root drive and \SleepFix. You can turn that off with the optional commands. Log is useful though incase there are any errors or something does not work properly. http://www.bahamassecurity.com/uploads/SleepFix.exe Good luck!
