All network settings in the DVR should be that which the ISP gives you if using a static IP. If you want to use DDNS then you will need a router. Then again, it depends on your modem and ISP, and ofcourse the DVR. Also as mentioned if just using DHCP then it will probably work like that but your IP will change.

Agreed, at least that all new cameras for clients should be initially tested at your location before installing them at the clients location.

yeah I havent even used it myself but I tested the remote video on a friends DVR and it was great quality (compared to others in that price range), and he said it works great so ..

When it comes to cameras it normally is though, especially the lenses anyway. The lens could be scratched from improper back focus or handling. The mechanical IR cut filter could be damaged or may not work properly from wear and tear or once again, improper back focus or handling or insertion of the lens, etc etc.

Yeah but if that other one is second hand off ebay, might have problems with it. Any bullet camera you get can have the same problem if the front cover was not put on tight or was taken off for whatever reason, so best just to check that for now IMO ... but its up to you ..

Its 480TVL then they digitally enhance it to 520-540TVL BW goes up to 600TVL though. Doesnt really matter though as it all depends on the image pixels, some OEM bullets say 520TVL then their image pixels are 511x which match the 380TVL cameras .. should be 800x +- for high res.

Dont throw it out. Take the front off and let it dry out for a couple hours. Clean the glass inside and out. Put it back on and tight. Then, check the back where the wire goes into it, seal that with some clear silicone. Seal around the front piece too if it happens again. Cover was just not on tight probably, it happens.

Whichever one you use, the PC should be a dedicated PC as well. However, I used the GV250 2 channel card on my PC for about a year without any major issues. Could not play videos at the same time Geo was open, at least it would stutter some and cause minor problems, but then again I had a 2.0Ghz 6 year old AMD system with 512MB of DDR ram.

Yes somewhere around that, as I edited my above post with a larger image, you can see that it does get a little bad when blown right up. A high res camera would be crisper, but for the price, I think it works great. Unfortunately I have issues getting the camera these days so I am stuck with other OEM brands which have yet to impress me as much. And ofcourse as it is a color camera and no exview, it needs alot of light.

Hi, well some sites will be selling it at dealer cost, and then also dont offer any kind of warranty worth mentioning, so need to check on that as well. As all bullet cameras are OEM the prices will vary considerably depending on the seller, plus many cameras from China will be much less than say Korean cameras for example.

MSI or Gigabyte Motherboards (MSI for the less expensive systems). P4 3.0 CPUs actually running rather cool now, surprised actually, just built one and it was hovering around 22 celcius, though it is rather cool this week down here, still, seems they cool better plus they have speedstep which doesnt even seem to be able to be disabled using power schemes. Anyway, on the cheap, an MSI 945GCM5-F V2, Intel Pentium 4 631 3.0Ghz (hovers around 2350+- using SpeedStep), 1GB DDR2-667 Kingston Ram. Using the same mobo you could do a Core 2 Duo for just a little bit more .. Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 2.2GHz, 800FSB, 2MB L2 Cache, then use 2GB of DDR2-667 dual channel Kingston Ram. Those would be the cheaper systems that would work fine. The Core 2 Duo would be best as should cool better. For the more higher end systems: If needing Micro ATX could use the Gigabyte GA-G31MX-S2 mobo, Corsair XMS2 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2-6400) Dual Channel Memory, Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66 GHz. Video Cards: X1550 or better, can be Sapphire or other, doesnt need to be ATI. Ive used both one after the other, Brand name ATI and then Sapphire, and I have stuck with the Sapphire's (or other) since then, as its much less expensive and just as good quality video and speed. Up to you though, on the more expensive units you may just like the ATI brand for the name. Onboard Video also works fine for at least the 1120, but would use the PCI-e card with DVI for the 1480. Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R works fine for a full atx mobo, there are a ton of other mobos that would work also though. Ive had the 1480 on a P4 3.0 with 1GB of DDR Ram going for a couple years now, so whatever hardware we use now, its going to be better either way (well so long as its not a celeron or via CPU!) By VGA you mean an LCD? Remember although they are rare, there are still CRT VGA monitors out in the field Depending on the converter and the LCD there can be a huge loss of quality when converting composite to VGA. Bottom line is composite to a cheap CRT 13" TV will be much better quality than converted to VGA on an LCD monitor. Ofcourse there is a trade off for saving space with the LCD, and that is quality loss. BTW. if using a PC DVR, get a video card with a DVI output and an LCD with DVI input, for higher quality live video (just slightly but every bit counts). Also, to get the best of both worlds (for non Megapixel systems), great evidence sharing features of a decent PC CCTV System, and the higher live and playback quality of a CCTV CRT:

Yep the Geo java viewer should work with Mac, I also began a Javascript version but it needs alot more work, however I heard geo is getting rid of their Java and going with something else in a future version.

on the subject of laptops and without starting a new thread, i have my first real laptop, not one I just fix for other people nor the old DOS one I used to have Anyway, no matter what you do, if you want it so when you are portable and you close the lid it goes into standby, I want that, so I save battery, but no matter what powercfg commands or power scheme settings when it is on AC and you close the lid, it also goes into standby. See I also use it at home with a separate LCD, keyboard and mouse. That would be fine if my USB mouse or Keyboard would work once its in Standby, but not on the laptop it doesnt. Basically I want it so it Wakes on USB but my laptop does not do that, also I want it to only go into Standby on DC, or if the Lid is closed not to go into Standby if it is on AC. SO after much research for literally hours and hours and thousands of websites including MS sites, I wrote my own little app late last night that does this: When the PC sends a Standby (sleep) message, my program checks to see if it is on battery or AC, if it is on AC it denies the request and stays on. Voila!! Problem fixed I want to add some more to the app such as minimize it to the system tray (it is hidden when it runs right now) and also have a tray menu that has manual sleep button and maybe some other basic options, but for now, if anyone wants the app as it is, let me know. It uses subclassing, so no timer, doesnt seem to cause any issues so far and neither does it take up any CPU and only uses very small amount of memory.

They say dont touch it .. is it safe to touch, this may be a silly question but just checking .. i mean is it just an issue of dirtying it ..? Also, is it safe to look through .. the human eye i mean .. just want to check it out .. i have one here .. may test it with a camera in daylight full sun out, to see if focusing like that may be better so that it stays focused for the IR at night .. thanks Rory
