Q-See 1/3" CMOS vs 1/4" CCD? $20 difference.. which to get?
rory replied to quidpro's topic in Security Cameras
Normally its the other way around from the manufacturers, but these might be 2 totally different actual manufacturers. Normally when prices are given from the actual manufacturer CMOS is the cheapest price, and you pay more for the CCD model - which is normally better. Basically, I would never knowingly pay for a CMOS camera for CCTV (I cant speak for IP video). Most are Sharp CMOS and the overall images normally are horrible, at least compared to the CCD models. CMOS typically will not be as sensitive under low light (although adding IR helps), have a washed out look to it, and just be difficult to get a good focus. But not all cameras are made alike so ... it could vary. -
The RG59 siamese cable has 18awg cable built in, you send power over that. Power supply will depend on your needs, can either use a single adapter for all if on an extreme budget (eg. Laptop cord with built in 3-5A 12VDC adapter), or get a better multi output fused box (eg. Altronix).

Look for 2.8-12mm Vandal Color IR Turret Dome (Eyeball) approx $100 retail. Avg 30' usable Infrared. Not good for pointing at doors. Some now come with Sony Effio which may have BLC settings in an OSD. The rest are normally non OSD though and automatic settings. Its the step up from the basic color IR 3.6mm dome. For WDR use a WDR Dome, eg. CNB has some reasonable priced Blue-i domes, approx retail $130-160. Depends if you get the Digital WDR or the Double Scan True WDR. Neither are Panasonic type WDR, but the price is 4 times less. Audio would be separate, can pick up any mic for CCTV apps. DVR, Dahua LE-A 4 channel, or on an extreme budget their LE-AS/AN. Sold under various brands such as QVis. 4-channel with 4 cameras and 500GB should give approx 3-4 weeks recording continuous (depends on size of images, determined by eg. Resolution size, Color or BW, etc). CNB and KT&C are decent mid range brands, and the actual manufacturers. The 2.8-12mm Turret IR dome though would be a rebrand/OEM.

Yeah I wanted to test it but with a client I couldnt take the chance .. yet anyway Heck it might very well be better ... and then we will know

I was just messing with the WDR camera and the default WDR settings on those really does suck. I might end up with going close to the door and just using BLC anyway. But it does have impressive BLC. Will get some snapshots once its online etc. This is 47 difficult camera locations though so .. cant say it will be right away.

depends on the client. but most times yes.
-
I havent used that but CNB once explained it to me as digital WDR. which is why it costs so much less.
-
I just installed 2 of those domes in a store .. It was actually the blue-i with blc .. instead of WDR, not the monalisa. gonna test the WDR again at this location, maybe it will differ, or not. Either way, used it because at least I know it works in one mode or the other, and its cheap.

LOL .. Ive seen a new cashier in a gas station, surrounded by clearly visible cameras in the cash area, stealing over $700 on her first day ... then try tell the cops she didnt do it ...

What others have you found in the price range? Im still looking.

extra stuff you gotta buy .. but dont really need.

here the cops tell you cold to drag them back inside the house. they got no pity for burglars here, especially as most shoot the victims dead now. its legal to kill someone in your house here as long as you feel threatened. although guns are illegal, only can get a license for hunting ... but the law says you can use anything at your disposal to defend yourself.

Absolutely not. Either one is a criminal or they are not, rich or poor. I lived out of my car at one point, and I never even considered stealing. Went without food many days, and yet did not steal. Haitians here are some of the most poverty stricken people in the world, yet they dont steal. If you were to ask a thief why they steal, I bet you will find its for reasons other than food.

3 pairs are needed? I would only have 1 pair free.

Do you know how much current they supply and to what distance? Eg. if using 12VDC 550ma cameras. Should be no different than any other 12VDC power source - it's 12V regulated output, so distance all depends on the cameras and how much loss they can handle. The jacks use three pairs for power by default, so you get the max range possible - specs page says up to 750'. The first site we used them, they added another camera to an area we didn't have a wire, so we split off a pair from the next closest camera... probably close to 150' to the first camera and another 50' to the second, both running over only two pairs. Both CNB VCM-24VFs, rated about 250mA at 12VDC, so that would be a total of around 500mA, and they're running no problem (then again, those cameras will also work all the way down to 10V or so). What I meant is how well can it send 550ma 12VDC over that cat5 at a distance? lets say the distances range from 65 feet to 150 feet. Say I have 3x 550ma cameras, and 1x350ma camera (all IR) I need to run new cables on a job - choice is a cat5 4 way balun and try power them all with that cat5, or run all RG59 - if im to run 18awg i may as well run RG59 one time, less connections and superior cable for security in this case (stronger for non conduit run, client will not pay for conduit so its run loose and tie strapped in open warehouse). Lets forget the strength of the cable for a minute, but can that cat5 24 awg hold enough power for those cameras at that current draw - if that is the real current draw - may be more as these are OEM cameras. How does this device get past the normal limitation of that kind of thing - I seriously want to know if it will save me work and money in the future. I dont want to hear about use non IR cameras because that is NOT an option. Thanks bro

Sense up is AKA DSS ... Slow blurry video I would try to do without it

Dahua has client software and supports MAC also. Last time I checked TVT only has browser activeX. Otherwise I dont know the other differences as I dont use TVT. There are however MANY similar brands in China now and many use the same boards, chips, and their SDKs are near identical except minus the number of routines dahua give us -how far they go with programming, features, network/wan/mobile support really puts Dahua out above the rest. Dahua's tech support is great also.
