  1. Would be a gorgeous photo if we could see it clear Anyway, maybe send the manufacturer the image also and see what they say.
  2. The image is all washed out, or out of focus. Is that the best they can be focused? All the edges are blurry, like there is a lens/iris problem.
  3. Maybe water got inside it then, hard to tell without seeing a sample image though, but if it looks like water, then its more than likely water. That said, you might just have to unplug the power and plug it back in again (if its not water related). Life is sometimes that easy Either way, tell him you dont know without further investigation. Anything could have happened over the past 6 months. Without a voltage regulator for one, at least down here, camera boards can fry very easily from spikes and brownouts. Its not the rainy season but if its snowing in your area maybe water is the issue.
  4. Could be lights causing it to switch back and forth between color and BW mode. I have had that alot in the past, and it is also something that can start a while after the system has been there. Example scenarios: newly installed lights, camera moved slightly, camera dirty causing enhanced reflection/glare, or lights being turned on that were not before, car lights, etc) If it is turning on and off 24/7, then could be a bad power board on the camera. If the power supply itself was bad then other cameras would be bad also, and more than likely you wont see anything at night with the IR cameras (wont come on at all). If they had workmen there could also have damaged the cable. Is it only turning off at night, or in the day also? Does it stay off and if not, how long does it take between switching on and off?
  5. I wonder what their Dealer price on that DVR is like
  6. Ok, but check this, it is 240 FPS live viewing. 720x240? Perhaps, though its compressed to death at that, and also Im not too quick to believe the specs on these OEM DVRs, most times the specs are incorrect, in other words that may still be in 320x240. Yes I would also say that 720x240 is more like 2 or 3 CIF than D1. I mean, not a bad DVR though for the price, might try one myself Only thing is that I had bad experiences with that Generic Network software. Maybe it has changed since then though.
  7. Scruit, you mean 320x240 right? Either way, it uses that generic network software that tends to crash alot. Its not the AvTech model (CL-16MPEG4) incase you got it mixed up. There are no exact specs to say whether it records in D1 or VGA on all channels at 30fps though I highly doubt it does being a very budget DVR. Im amazed at how the specs for these DVRs really do make them out to be the best thing since the landing on the moon. (whoops, mars)
  8. Hopefully someone else might have some recommendations. Thats a pretty low budget for a real time stand alone DVR, especially with 1TB. Honestly cant say I know of any real time DVRs for that range. I take it that the 30fps per camera would need to also be in 640x480/720x480, not just 320x240? Many DVRs that do suggest they do Real time typically do that only in 320x240. There are a few that will do it, but they cost.
  9. Yeah definitely need more info on the product, sounds like OEM IR Bullets so should not be that much.

    IR 840nm Filter

ok thanks DVR Man, just checking. and Rick .. LOL .. Ive been near blind for sometime anyways. I think its that age thing now.
  11. yeah in the past ive worked on 10 camera jobs here that were easily $17-20K installed using DVRs like GE and Professional Box cameras. Even $8-10K for an 8 channel Bullet camera job .. but was someone elses job (now its much less ofcourse). Also down here you have to double it due to expensive shipping and 40+% Customs Duties, so would be much cheaper in the US.
  12. Sounds like the modem is setup as a router. You have a static though, I would use that instead, you wont need to rely on a third party service, and also it is quicker connecting. You shouldn't need to use the DMZ, just forward the ports.
  13. A High End System (using brand name cameras) could come to about that and could even be more, installed. Installation and wiring alone could be a few thousand (client paid $6,000 for an electrician last year to wire up their home, huge house/yard), depends on the application and location. Have them break it down for you, if it is not already. Also get a couple more quotes.
  14. Yep if it is setup in the router and you are getting that report, it could be a bad router. You could try to switch the router, or like mentioned get a static IP.

    1st DVR. Need some help.

Pretty inexpensive actually, for just 8 channels. Always cheaper if you build it yourself as well. But, if you have no experience with building PCs then you will want to buy a DVR pre built.

    Welcome
  17. Im talking about multiport transmitter/receiver hubs amplified with ground loop isolation and interference rejection, not just the cheap baluns on each side.

    Focus tools

Just because they do it, does not mean it is properly focused.

    Focus tools

Why? I have been using a very cheap 2.5" lcd monitor for the past 3 years and have always achieved a very crisp image. The only challenge I have run into is trying to do it in bright sunlight. If it's that bad, then I go through the trouble of draping a towel over me and the monitor. I wouldn't hesitate to bring a 9"crt with me if I wasnt getting less than perfect results with the small lcd monitor. But thus far I havent had a reason to. I dont see how it is possible to get a crisp focus with a 2.5" LCD. I would like to see that image.

    CPD507 any good?

Save a few hundred and buy it under the Avtech name Avtech Network software is horrible though, thats the biggest Con with their (and CPCam) DVRs.

    Help with GE camera

Oh yeah, I have the same camera. Tested this one, but not the Ultraview 3rd gen yet. Just got a decent lens yesterday; had the cameras now for a few months though, tested the DN one with an old lens. I have the Day Night CCD camera as well as the Ultraview CMOS. The Day Night (one you have) is not really WDR though. I prefer the older KTC-2000DN Camera over this Day Night one. http://www.gesecurity.com/portal/site/GESecurity/menuitem.f76d98ccce4cabed5efa421766030730?selectedID=7646&seriesyn=true&seriesID=

    Help with GE camera

Yeah, I have a GE WDR camera right here with the Pixem chip. This is the 3rd generation one. Their 1st generation one sucked, so hopefully this is better. I just got a lens finally yesterday to test it, so will see how it is.
