What computer to use for NVRs?

And when the internet goes down? Im still recording on site. And I didnt even have to use a single acronym.
  2. I used telco back in the day, slow video .. remember the news media .. Actually my telco is down again, 3rd time since I got it .. so really cant recommend it that much anymore .. my internet has been down plenty too but least it only takes them a couple days to fix that .. telco takes me 2 weeks or more! If its not too far from the main site, could do wireless, that is where IP video really shines. Or like user1 you could just hope the ISP is always up.
  3. Plenty answers, see above. With Power, you have Battery backup, then Generator. 100% Uptime. Most clients wont want to rely on their ISP for their security system uptime though.
  4. And when the Internet goes down ...? Thats true, you would probably achive the task but may have to setup a redundancy. depending on the cost you could place an archiver on the each site configured through some sort of active dirctory domain clone. any ideas? im not an it tech but love to work out logic and worst case Scenarios. Could setup Telco as a backup .. or RF. But will have to be much smaller images being sent, probably no video either.
  5. CCD over CMOS, and check out Video Insight, Avermedia, NUUO, and GeoVision, for Hybrid DVRs.

I dont use blades, I build my own computers. And yes you can distribute storage around the network. We went over all this before? Its still the same computer hardware, everything is basically the same. There are pros and cons for both, but the DVR can do both while the NVR is limited. I would rather a DVR that works with both IP Cameras and CCTV cameras, than just an NVR that only does IP Cameras .. plus that DVR is like a network switch, but it also records .. you can then use CMS software to monitor and record all the IP and CCTV cameras from anywhere in the world. But I would probably just setup a simple NVR for the IP cameras by itself (only if needing megapixel) .. I just dont see any application using only IP cameras though, I can see them as an add on. In any event, the DVR and NVR are built using the same Computer Hardware. You can go smaller on the NVR case though.
  8. And you find Axis cameras "that" advanced? Im not a fan of Axis for professional jobs is all. There are other IP cams I would use first, and there are some DIY jobs I would use Axis on also. Like i said before, to each their own. Im writing software for Axis cameras now also, as like Geo, they are big players in their industry .. lots of DIY use them so big business ya see Now, I already mentioned what I would like to see in an IP camera .. Im still looking for that BTW. .. one day
  9. Explain please. And note, Im not trying to sell anything to you though.

What's your point? Other than now the DVR is more secure as there is one less failure point (a network - actually DVR uses the network too) Same Computer hardware either way.
  11. Once again, it would truly be nice if everyone could afford a decent $2000 IP Camera .. but life is not that good.

DVR should be no different than an NVR as far as hardware.
  13. I write IP based software, so Im way ahead of you there buddy. As for web browser based apps, thats already outdated. Now I would like you to break down each statement that I made 1 line at a time and show us where it is false. Otherwise your idea that my statements are false is just heresay. There are also other threads where this has been discussed over and over, so you can do a search if you like. This is a CCTV forum, so CCTV will always take presidence over everything else.
  14. I was not comparing that. With CCTV everyone knows what the $50 camera is, its the budget camera for the market, we could say Mace or COP is known for their $50 cameras .. they are the budget players in the industry .. budget means DIY. So essentially I was saying Axis is the $50 camera for IP. Nothing wrong with that really if you know the industry, those $50 cameras sell like mad and make the installer tons of money.

    GV2008 (x2) or GV1480

Hi again, what frame rate you get in D1 with the extreme? JD Well no idea, but its gotta be a lot better than just the dual core, the Extreme CPU is Quad Core with 12MB cache .. flyin!!
  16. Actually not, most IP systems being installed are being done by beginners in the CCTV industry. Many just jump into the Video Surveillance Industry without knowing anything about it, they pick the first thing they see. Current IP cameras will be obsolete in 3 years time. Ahh you dont, but most clients want it, they want to see the video on their TVs. Thats about 95% of the jobs right there. They wont spend it on a decent digital CCTV camera (forget the whole analog myth the IP people try to sell you), then ofcourse they wont spend it on an IP camera. Everyone knows Axis is the Radio Shack of IP cameras .. Im not saying they arent any good, just saying thats the image they have always presented, something of a more advanced webcam product line.

    GV2008 (x2) or GV1480

The extreme CPU would be to get the full or close to the full 480fps, as the Dual Core alone wont get 480fps in 640x480 or D1.

    GV2008 (x2) or GV1480

No no, check the PC specs, the total cost includes the Core 2 Extreme for the GV1480, which brings both complete systems to the same exact cost.

    Green screen on display

What is the motherboard chipset and video card model? Basically it has to be an Intel Chipset, video card is just for reference as some older NVidia's also have issues.

    Plextor Hardware Encoder-Tigerdirect

The video wont be more than D1 as its coming from a DVR

    Help with outdoor cameras

Don't forget the separate GB network and the PSU for the UF500. 13mm lens wont give them much of a general view though (too narrow), they should just get some CCTV cameras with 4mm lenses then add just 1 Megapixel IP camera if anything. Here is the link for that Arecont camera: http://www.arecontvision.com/products_2100.html (the digital zoom on this one is not as good as a PTZ though in Live video) Edit: I imagine the OP got this straight since July.
  23. Which DVR do you have? With Stand Alone DVRs, typically you are stuck with what comes with it.

Ok here is what i get

Going by another post, I take it is this camera? http://www.specotech.com/cart/products/productDetails.asp?prodID=884 Need to adjust the IRIS and may need to leave AGC disabled. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=70211 Make sure the lens cover is clean also.
  25. I would like to see a decent True Day Night IP camera with Exview low light capabilities in both color and BW mode. (that retails for under $800) Next a dual IP camera with built in IR out to 200+ feet and separate color and BW cameras. (that retails for under $2000) Next lets see a budget Color IP camera for $50. Wall Mount Vandal Proof IP Camera such as the GE brute camera. Lastly, an IP camera that can plug directly into the Composite Input on any standard TV, in other words has to have a BNC or RCA output (composite) Last I checked, Axis was not really considered a professional camera company, mostly DIY products. Definitely not the best choice for most Surveillance applications though. I would agree they have gotten better recently, but IMO not ready yet - to each their own though. On the other hand I have seen some IP camera companies that are getting there, but still have a way to go. Things will only get better though. They need to start moving away from relying on Web Browsers though for starters. And nope, Axis doesn't have a camera for every application, NO manufacturer does As to budgets, most clients these days are on strict budgets with falling economies, so if one wants to stay in the Video Surveillance industry, they will really need to offer budget applications as well.
