  1. Its just conduit that is used. Should work with the Pendant Mount dome, just get the same size conduit.
  2. most decent Brands will sell pendant mount domes, such as GE and Ganz.

    Running cable underground?

Its up to you, but PVC works fine down here. On a side note,. I had regular RG59 Siamese to a camera here at my appt for 5 years without issues, no conduit and it was run loose out to the Beach, salt air, and went through a couple hurricanes, without even any connectors, just spliced together all the copper and braid exposed to the salt air and rain etc .. LOL .. I dont suggest this for your client .. just showing at least under the tropical conditions down here, standard RG59 Siamese CAN last 5 years easy with no protection. And yes, picture was perfect the whole time
  4. agreed, they are probably making alot of that, using cheaper OEM cameras and cheap PC parts.

    Colour domes for a Pub

And its then going to be twice as slow, slow frames already from the DVR, then the additional slow frames from the DSS .. so double (or much more) the slowness .. wont be any use to most owners IMO, at least in this country.

    Colour domes for a Pub

DSS will not be any good for a bar/club environment, the video will be too slow.

Its a power saving mode for laptops, not required for a regular PC. When enabled your 2.4 will be a 1.6 most of the time. Even though it is suppose to auto adjust, it doesn't always do that when you need it, for example, moving around Windows is typically slower.

    Camera Suggestions

Vandal Proof Domes, most are not that weatherproof, so must be placed under an eave, or sealed very well. Sanyo, Panasonic, GE (Color or BW only), Nuvico (havent used but specs are good), Personally never really found a Day Night Vandal Dome that impressed me, I like the GE Color and BW vandal Domes, but when it comes to day night I would try anything buy a dome personally. Note that domes wont see as much in low light as a decent day/night box camera either, even with IR cut filters and lower lux night modes. Honestly you will pay double the cost of a decent Day Night IR Bullet, for a Decent Day Night Vandal Dome. If you dont mind the cost, then look at Panosonic and Sanyo, otherwise just take a look at a True Day Night IR bullet, the specs are typically the same from one manufacturer to the next and they are all OEMs. Eg. Nuvico, Eclipse, etc. If the area doesnt particularly need color in the day, just get an exview BW bullet camera, KT&C have one, it will see decent in low light, if its pitch dark though you will need IR. Just use color where there is alot of light, will save you a bundle, then put the Day Night bullets where you need both color and BW. There are also Color/IR bullets (no IR Cut filter) for almost half the cost of the True Day Nights, can place them in areas of lower importance also, and still get IR.

    Camera Suggestions

Looks like they use Sens Up and DSS meaning to get low lux the video will probably need to be slowed down. Doesnt look like its a True Day Night camera either .. meaning no IR Cut Filter, least going by the specs .. but then again, you get what you pay for. . its cheap, but gotta be better than neverfocus Note though, if you just want plug and play, do not buy a Box camera. Box cameras require more elaborate setup in most cases. And yes, they require larger housings which will be noticeable. If the area is very dark, you will also require additional IR or artificial light.

only would have seen 3GB though .. so no worries .. CPU is where the real issue would be with many cameras ..

Could have got the 2.6 for just a few dollars more That 2.2 must be screaming with 32 cameras (or was it the 2.4?) Make sure you disable Intel SpeedStep in the BIOS and run CPUZ to confirm you are running the max CPU speed.

    GV-800 and Video Lost Messages

Seen Similar to that .. bad connections, incompatible Motherboard Chipset, video card issues .. What are the PC's specs? For $180 for 16 channels and GV800 I imagine it is a used card? If not then for certain it is a pirated card. Did it come with the "nice" GeoVision Book and CD/DVD, and what version software came on the CD? New cards dont come with Dongles anymore BTW.

XP pro mostly, unless one can afford XP Embedded, but that would bring the end cost of the DVR up. XP home isnt worth the small savings, and Vista well ..

    Day/night PTZ RF Controlled

most DVRs now come with remotes so can do as VST recommended. did you say outdoor or indoor with IR? http://www.acutvista.com.tw/Indoor-PT.htm Also, could grab an old PocketPC then use the network software to control it using wifi .. Or check on some IP cameras ... they may have remotes as well.

Yeah but you said "build" DVR Servers" They are easy to build, very simple these days. Either way, Dell or not, one needs to stay on top of the lastest technology, or at least know whats out there from week to week (no need to be at it every day). Dell has many options, cant just rely on them to know what you need for the DVR .. as you already found out. Many custom built PCs wont work with Geo or Aver media either .. its to do with the parts used is all. Dont blame Dell though, nor Avermedia, Dell wasn't building it for a CCTV DVR, and Avermedia never suggested using those components for their DVR cards. I can build a basic PC in 10 minutes easy. Rack Mount Server with multiple drives, fans, other add ons, new technology (different motherboard and other different parts from prev builds), etc .. 1 hour tops. Hardest part is cooling and tie strapping everything. And yes, would cost too much to send the parts to me and have me send the DVR back to you built, but should not be hard to find someone to build a decent PC around your area, its childs play these days .. Software is a totally separate side of it and is not included in the physical build, that should be customized when purchasing a ready built system also, XP should never be left as is. Software setup can take much longer if done right. But its worth it, after all you aren't giving the DVR away, I'm sure there is a charge for the setup right? Why put that extra $500 in Dell's hands when it could go in yours. Actual on site DVR install should take no real time. Still, charge accordingly, thats the labor side of the CCTV job. If the client is kind of slow then charge more.

new user... intro and noob question

Hi, Welcome to the Forum. That forum has the same requirements as the dealer forum. Once one owns/runs a business (in the industry) and after a certain amount of posts, then one can contact the admin (Larry) and request entry to those forums. Please take a quick look through the forum guidelines before posting as well. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=9805 Thanks, and have fun. Rory
  17. If you are using an LCD monitor this is normal. The live video quality (LCD or CRT) will be somewhat less than the raw composite either way, but the LCD makes it look worse, has nothing to do with the actual recorded video though, and evidence sharing is much better with the Geo than most stand alones. Also, if you are using VGA on the LCD then it wont be as clear as if you were to use the DVI. If you want same quality live video, you would need the combo card with the DSP composite video output. And LOL @ pentaplex, ignore that as it means very little these days. Also, I doubt that is an Actual Sony Dome? Either way, 420TVL is medium resolution, but its the Effective Image Pixels that really matter and even with a cheap OEM dome that claims High Res, does not mean you will be getting the correct Image Pixels, so you would need a decent name brand dome. Yes though, a truly high resolution camera will produce a higher resolution image in the GeoVision software, depends on the camera itself as to whether or not the image itself is actually better though (lighting issues, etc, can also degrade quality).
  18. Actually I never use AGC for day night apps at all. Could be the IR is not coming on and its just too dark?

So what laptops are you guys using now?

VST you can always upgrade to XP Im loading XP on these new slow Laptops that come with Vista all the time now. Isaac went all out on those though, they arent cheap and with the specs listed they can run Vista fine, most laptops in the <$1300 range wont though.

Like me, Avermedia probably doesn't like Dells and thats why they dont care if they work or not with their cards. Build your own PC, much better end product and cheaper.

    Camera Terms?

Iris Level - adjust the lens iris - open/close - bright/dark AGC on-off - auto gain control - higher makes it brighter under lower light (some Korean Cameras need this enabled for their "fake" Day Night modes) BLC on-off - backlight control - for door entries or areas with backlighting, leave it off unless you really need it FLK on-off - flikkerless mode - n/a ALC or ELC - n/a Mirror on-off - simply mirrors the image P/G on-off - n/a
  22. Just to verify peeps, not a question about POE, just the restriction in general, in fact it had nothing to do with video really, was just a router and access point issue I was having which ended up just being a bad connection. Thanks though.

    1st DVR. Need some help.

The DV3 says 30fps in high res, the DV4 claims 120fps. Haven't used either myself, just going by the specs.

    1st DVR. Need some help.

buyer beware, most DVRs that claim 240fps or 480fps Recording, do that in lowest resolution only (and/or extremely high compression), and will typically be 30-60fps in normal resolution.
