Faster performing DVR with faster hard drives
rory replied to CCTV_Suppliers's topic in Digital Video Recorders
here is something I posted a little while back on the following thread in regards to the WD Raptor Sata 10,000 rpm drives: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=8459 "As to the speed .. didnt feel any faster, in fact it felt slower, could have just been the fact that you can hear everything it does. Anyway, well copying files to it from a 7200rpm drive was much faster than copying files from it to the 7200rpm drive; tested with 40GB of files copying .. and using a Hard Drive Speed test program I have here, it showed up as the 7200rpm and the Raptor being about the same in reads, though actually the 7200rpm came out faster but it was with less data, even though it was a larger drive, tested it on different sized partitions though, same thing. But the access time was faster on the Raptor, being 5.6ms, with the 7200rpm drive at 7.2ms - not a huge difference though. The score was 990 for the 7200rpm drive, and 1400 for the Raptor, But no idea how they came up with that, stayed pretty much the same each time. I imagine it may be faster in some instances such as where data is being copied to/from it alot, but the noise factor is just not worth that IMO. The 7200rmp drive, a Western Digital SE16-500 in this case, is super quiet, and still feels fast. Perhaps the Raptor might be better suited in a server application where it is in a dedicated server room with acoustic silencing on the walls, racks , cases, etc .. Very Happy Definitely not for a home user though, it will set you MAD! Mind you the clients son doesnt seem to mind, we left it in his PC, though Im going to try to talk him out of it, and going back to the 500GB as his main drive, or at least we may try some other silencer enclosures, and perhaps in Raid 0 next time. You probably could. In the \Windows\GeoMulti.ini file: Example: [Camera 2] InitOff_Analog=1 Naming=Camera 2 Sensitivity_highRes=5 UDPBrightness=144 UDPContrast=128 UDPSaturation=128 UDPHue=128 InitOff=1 bGeoObj=0 bRecAdv=0 RecQuality=5 Codec=5 You would need to restart Geo for the changes to take effect.

Motion detection is tricky. Basically it uses a grid, and depending on the sensitivity level set for the motion (eg. 7, etc) that will cause the sensitivity to raise/ lower and the number of blocks in that grid used to decrease/increase. So if the car is reversing towards the camera, with a lower motion sensitivity, it will require more blocks for it to cross before detecting motion; higher sensitivity, lower amount of blocks required to be crossed before motion is detected. For example, I believe Geo uses a 32x32 grid, so they are small blocks. If the grid was 16x16 (larger blocks) then it would require a much larger area for motion to be detected, or the motion sensitivity level would have to be increased even more.

C7, there is just the 2 prong lamp type cord that came with the PSU, no ground on it. The UPS etc are all standard 3 prong. The ground wire Im talking about is just a short green wire that has one end of it screwed to the back of the case, inside, and the other end is just bare. The room where it will be located is all carpeted. I dont know much of anything about high voltage unfortunately, and kind of paranoid about it also. Bottom line is I dont want a fire. Lolo, I understand what you are saying, however down here most electrical is all messed up from lack of enforced codes, so it sounds like unless the building's electric is first redone, its probably not worth it in my case? The amount of bare live electric I saw as I was in the drop ceiling was frightening, almost got shocked several times! Guess thats why we dont ground the alarm panels down here. I use to get hit so many times up on the attics when doing alarms .. people just add in lights and such and leave the live wires tied together without any kind of protection. I guess basically, is this any different than an alarm panel would be? If not then I think I will be okay with out it, in this case.

Hi, what version software is this?

If you are going to use Motion Detection recording, you must test it out fully or you cannot be certain it will work properly. Every camera location can be different. If it is dealing with moving vehicles though, you may want to either put it right up to 9 or put it on continuous record.

No, XP has no drivers for Geo cards, need to use the drivers for the same version of the GeoVision main system that is being installed.

hands dirty is not the problem, finding the PSU is. We have many threads on here now, going back years, where people have asked the same thing, how to upgrade the PSU on the GE DVRs. The answer from GE is, yah need the Power Upgrade Kit. Ive never personally seen a PSU like that anywhere on the web, at least not in the DVMRe, if you know where to get one though, I'd be interested.

Rory, that is why I recommend to change the power supply with higher wattage, so it not only will comply with higher RPM, but also higher capacity drives... We have quite of few of them with two 750GB PATA drives in each DVR... At the begining it was difficult to get 250W... and that was the main reason was to stay with single drives.. Later, we did find few sources that were manufacturing 300W of power supplies.. and they worked great. I checked on this before and a power upgrade kit is required, which will require a training session at GE headquarters, for x amount of $$. The PSUs in the StoreSafes and DVMRes are not regularly available, they are proprietary.

Daylight Savings Time Change
rory replied to Metal Shaper Man's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
You could also change the file names (just the time or date part) for something out of the scope of the new times, then just do a database repair and it will show up as that new time in the Viewlog. -
Looks like your best bet is to try it in another PC. As for the files, when you reinstall the Geo software it would typically recreate the files. Some versions may not though, if they already exist, I believe. You could delete the ComRes, ComRes1024, etc folders, those are the skin folders. Also, delete all Geo INI files in the Windows Directory, if those are corupt, will also get fatal errors (del c:\windows\geo*.ini). Then reinstall. Perhaps get a different source for the 6.1 software: Make sure you are also using the 6.1 hardware drivers. 6.11 Main System: http://www.bahamassecurity.com/geo/Localen6110.zip 6.11 Drivers: http://www.bahamassecurity.com/geo/Driveren6110.zip Rory

Daylight Savings Time Change
rory replied to Metal Shaper Man's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I dont have anything here to verify anything right now, but the Geo files use the time stamp so that would be an issue. However, if it is set to motion, then its going to be rare that it would save the video at the same exact hour, minute and seconds, which is what the files are based on. So although the player might have some issues, the files might still be there in the folder. -
Dont know how relative to the StoreSafe2 this is, but with the older StoreSafe units, you could only use 5400rpm drives due to the smaller power supplies.

Hi For starters, are you certain it is a legit card? I am asking as the version is up to 8.12 now, a couple years ago it was at 7.0. If it is a clone (pirate card & software cracked) we can't discuss it in the forums for legal reasons. The error can be so many different things, if it is a clone card then it is a driver problem more than likely, as it would be using modified driver files. If it is a legit card: You say you have been running it for a year already, same PC but new HDD and PSU? Did you reformat and install XP clean? Did the card have 6.1 loaded and working before? Could be bad motherboard also. Could be bad Card. If it was not on a voltage regulator, and you had problems with the other hardware, it could have got hit and could be either the card or the motherboard also; eg. Could be a bad PCI slot, perhaps try it in another PCI slot. If certain skin files are missing or corrupt, it will also give you an error like what you mentioned. I doubt it is a bad Processor though, that would be the last thing I would ever check. Also, take a look at the Capacitors in the motherboard and make sure they are okay, bad Capacitors will cause all kinds of errors, mostly random shut downs though. Rory

Well we are getting tons of rain from it now, actually alot of wind and rain from yesterday. It may come this way, may not, but guys in South Florida might want to keep your eyes out for it also, it seems there is a Tropical Storm watch in your area now. Winds at 50mph currently where it is located just off Cuba, and expected to increase. We are expecting power to go off sometime tonight, and that normally lasts a day, or two, during storms like this. A full hurricane could knock it out for weeks though.

Thats a very old version of GeoVision software. But you would select NTSC if you are in North America. The resolution you choose will have to be the same as your PC's video resolution, that older version of Geo only goes up to 1024x768 so you will need a monitor that supports that as the native resolution. You can run it in 1024x768 even if your Monitor's resolution is 1280x1024, but it will be a smaller window.

Not sure what that message means, but are you using XP or Vista? Rory

ok finally got some sleep .. Shingles and alot of roofs are painted with Roof Mastic. Dont know about the slate or metal part though. I actually thought hurricane season was over by now, apparently not though, but its suppose to be over soon. This storm eventually turned into a hurricane today, so lets hope it doesn't swing around and come right back. Leaving the plywood up for now though. And now I can finally get back to work, first have to clean up the water damage.

Darn, cut my hip at 6am this morning screwing up plywood over my windows in the rain, even slipped down in some mud and busted my ankle on the concrete walkway . .. for nothing . .. the eye seemed to just break up and the storm is over .. for us at least .. might have some more rain though but no more wind right now. .. oh well was fun while it lasted
-
Dunno man .. but we are waiting for the eye to pass right now ... im watching the trees as its been dead calm no wind at all for the past few hours ... I see some movement so going outside to check ... will reply about the roof stuff once its over ..
-
still not here yet, just alot of rain .. suppose to get 86mph gusts later today .. here is what it is right now though outside my place .. http://www.bahamassecurity.com/video/Winds1.wmv

LOL .. we're supposed to get it by 2pm .. still got a while yet but it is blowing hard and lots of rain all night so far ... the waiting is the worse .. not knowing when the power will go off .. by 8am though it is supposed to hit Andros Island, which is to the south west of us .. Im in Nassau BTW .. the little dot on the right of Andros (the large island) but we're the Capital City Im on the beach so when the sun comes up ill go out side and get some shots .. didnt bother connecting my DVR to the mux tonight as well the power will be off anyway if we get the big storm.
-
Thanks, all we can do is wait and see now, its up to 60mph though and moving again, they claim we will get something if we are going to get it, 2pm tomorrow, though it has also been suggested that it is going to speed up and hit sooner. I cleared up the yard this evening, put away all the rusty machetes, rakes, shovels, etc.

They arent standard sized lenses as far as I could tell, so I would imagine you would need to buy them from Extreme.
