Is this a bad camera or electrical interferance?
rory replied to squale's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Unfortunately, only way to tell is take the camera down and plug it into a TV or CCTV Monitor, powering them in the same spot. -
BC4?

How set up a wireless survellance camera in a vehicle
rory replied to rollndoe's topic in Security Cameras
Hi The problem you may encounter is that it wont see all around the vehicle, without putting in multiple cameras. Also if it is wireless, the metal in the car or other cars, may block the signal, and water such as that on trees from rain, impairs the wireless signal also. It might be better to set up a camera looking at the vehicle, if your home is not too far away. You could get a 5-50mm lens and manually zoom that in on the vehicle. Otherwise it could get pretty expensive to put a couple wireless cameras in the vehicle. You may want to also check out a camera that saves to Flash disk on motion. Other option would be a wireless IP camera, Axis has a model in the $200 retail range, though cant say how well it works nor how far its wireless capability is. Perhaps someone else might have some ideas. Rory -

as far as i know, from using the 4 and 16 channel units in the past, its all the same.

Yes, this is normal with most StandAlone DVRs. Best quality would be to use a PCI Capture card in a regular PC, use the monitor out either from the DVR or the Monitor's loop out and connect that to the capture card, then save it as raw video or images.

JD whats the diff between the Lite and the other one? Thanks, Rory

Name brand? Yeah but Toshiba? Anyway if it looks good please let us know .. at that price would be worth it. Perhaps it has a fixed IR Cut Filter, which is still good for most apps, as you dont always need IR, and then the day picture would look good. Although, in that case it may mean it is switching to Night mode digitally, by removing the Chroma, which is not always as sensitive in low light.

Commercial or Surveillance Hard Drives?

I used Seagates originally but had more problems with them after a while, basically everyone that i received came bad .. so switched to WD, though a couple of them have also come bad, but more good than bad; all this due to shipping and also being OEM drives they are never packaged properly anyway, I have found it always best to buy direct from the manufacturer so its packaged individually and proper even though it means higher price; as the distributors and retailers just ship it in the same box as the other gear without any additional packaging besides the anti-static bag, and that box gets kicked around alot. When i say bad, not necessarily damaged so it wont work, but definitely slower and much noisier. Personally I cant stand a noisy drive. Also, in the case of needing a replacement, WD drives are the most common here, so its best for us to stick with them for that reason also, if only to use the same drives all around. Anyway, as for WD drives, they have the Enterprise Drives, they are about the same cost ($10 more for the 500GB), but they are not as easy to find as the desktop drives (meaning hardly ever in stock), so I dont even bother looking anymore. Here is the link to the Enterprise Drives from WD: http://www.westerndigital.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=331&language=en Also, when you get a bad hard drive here, you cant send it back as that would cost more than just going to the store and buying a new one at local pricing. -
Req: Tips on running cables in a home installation.
rory replied to photys's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Also look into Wire Molding, we use it alot down here. Its more decorative than Conduit. -
Actually they can't PM either, and there is a valid reason behind a newbie not being able to PM or post links etc; I am sure they can wait until the 25th post. Rory

Commercial or Surveillance Hard Drives?
rory replied to CCTV_Suppliers's topic in General Digital Discussion
If its 250GB and up, should be the SE16 series, thats what I use, $100 for a 500GB, cant beat it. Tried a couple Raptors the other day, was not impressed. Use a Voltage Regulator and you should not have any issues. -
how about Extreme's EX82? PS. did you test the GE's KTC-2000? Awsome Day Night camera, though its not a WDR, great to be used with IR also, and being Exview, extra sensitive under low light; great for extreme lighting conditions, but not necessarily for extreme light changing conditions. Also, they have a couple new models, I have them here actually (received demos) but no housings or lenses to test them yet . In any event, peeps down here can barely afford the OEM bullets .. they want a megapixel image for $20.

Yep, Vista is a .. cant say the word here. Getting my software to work on it now, having to update so much stuff ... very annoying .. bad MS .. very very Bad MS ..

Commercial or Surveillance Hard Drives?
rory replied to CCTV_Suppliers's topic in General Digital Discussion
been running consumer based 24/7 without any problems. Actually never had a hard drive failure. Disclaimer: I Dont build hundreds of DVRs though. -
And look at how we have progressed since then

could be a bad motherboard also, the PCI bus .. can you stick it in another PC to test?
-
Yes the ICR means that, just hope they mean that CNB is a manufacturer out of Korea, pretty decent products. Im still not into that whole Digital Slow Shutter thing though, but hopefully you can turn it off.

rory replied to jeromephone's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Perhaps the units you use have amplification built in? the CM9760-MDA is a "Master Distribution Amplifier". -

maybe, though might just be a difference among baluns also, or something else .. not hurting my head worrying over it .. -
general reccommendation for balun MFG
rory replied to jeromephone's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
There are differences. Had used 1 in abt 300m, sucks. Lots of interferrence. Tried the same brand, active one, still the same. Changed to another brand and model, works perfectly. So they are not all the same. Probably i just picked the 2 wrong brands of baluns Still .. cant afford it again. -
general reccommendation for balun MFG
rory replied to jeromephone's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
I was using high quality system and cameras, when using coax it was fine, with the baluns it was not. I cant afford to take that chance again, would be RG59 or if I must use cat5, NVT active all around.
