  1. What camera is it? Need to know what its power specs are.
  2. Basically, you will have to install the power supply and cable, then test it before applying it to the cameras. Ofcourse the camera manufacturer, and the reseller, will tell you to use the suggested 18AWG one time though -so dont let them in on what you end up doing.
  3. 120 ft. (150*.8=120). LOL roger that ... so 80% of the total. In any event it wont make his mark. Now the question is .. what if he trippled up!? Since the cat5 has 4 pairs, and only 1 is for video. Would that be 3 x 78 * .8 = 187' .. man but still that would be under 200' or just pushing it. Also, what about interference from the power in the same jacket as the video, or I guess that will depend on his baluns? Its a pity the cameras arent 24VAC!
  4. ok thanks, yup makes sense. Still thats only 78' and if doubled .... 150'? (edit, so more like around 140' if using an 80% mark?) I guess it also depends if the camera can even handle 10 volts .. some can .. dont know if the budget ones can though.
  5. Two 24-guage wires can be run approximately twice the distance of one (3 = 3, etc.). You sure about that? I was told differently in the past, that doubling up does not make it a thicker gauge, or at least it does not double it. Perhaps 24 gauge would be more like 20 gauge when doubled up, something like that.

    speco HT-INTB8 vs nuvico HW3895IR36N

Yes intensifier is simply adjusting the shutter, you can do that on most box cameras manually anyways, but image will get slower and slower as you go up on the intensifier. Get the true day night camera IMO.
  7. I would power the cameras locally, at the camera location that is. If there are a few of them in the same general location, or they go the same general route, you could power several of them at one location still. If the stores have a utility room or closet, office etc, could run them into that and place a Distributed power supply there. Figuring even doubled up that is still 22 gauge wire, at 300ma and 12VDC, max distance according to the link provided is 124'. Just for information, thats another reason we like to use 24VAC, it can be used at almost double the distance of 12VDC. Rory

    American Dynamics Intellex DVRs

saw one on the Cops DVR down here, was an old version though, the reseller had initially installed it with Win98, the cops had them put Win2K on it, or an upgrade or something like that. They were charged $17K for that DVR!! Course it was the government, which here only puts 10% down, so companies tend to raise the markup pretty high to cover their costs - however, it was PC based meaning it was customs duty free, typically would cost $150 to ship and land the whole unit. Otherwise, didnt really get to play with it, looked okay though and seemed like it did the job. I think they need an upgrade now though, as that seemed to be a very old version.
  9. the regular GE dvmre and storesafes still use (or did) nucleus though right? (not the Pro or v2 versions) I got 2 of the CBR-16's here .. got from a client that upgraded to a DVR .. wonder what they use .. ?

    DVMRE, Wavereader HELP!

No problem I think there is an initial 25 post limit before being able to post links.
  16. Also, regarding Analog Devices products, I had major issues with their latest batch of HD onboard Audio (Soundmax), see the following thread (there are also a couple threads over on Asus' web site, though it is not an Asus issue, besides them using the product in theirs, and Asus has now switched to Realtek). Hopefully that doesn't speak for all their products, but thought I would mention it anyway: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=9354
  17. Also check out the popular Nucleus RTOS, its been used for years in many high end embedded applications, including video. http://www.mentor.com/products/embedded_software/ http://www.mentor.com/products/embedded_software/nucleus_rtos/index.cfm
  18. for that budget, you can either get a stand alone, mid range, or if you can support the PC based, a decent PC based system. The PC based system, at least in most cases, will give you many more features. BUT, you need to get a decent PC and set up the OS and software properly (or buy one setup already), otherwise stick with a stand alone.
  19. Yep, unfortunately $200 will not get you a 4 camera system worth looking at. And if the card is a clone, you will not get any support on it. I dont know if that is a clone though, just very very cheap, and unfortunately thats not a good sign. Cards are not always the expensive part, the software also counts and if that is no good, you will have one unstable DVR system.
  20. yep, sorry should have mentioned depends the cameras current draw.

  22. Far as I know, you cant run 12VDC 200', least not on 18AWG, let alone cat5. Even if you double up the pairs, it wont double the wire gauge.

    Control V2

Center V2 is a Central Monitoring Software, the DVR will upload video to that PC, but in 320x240 resolution. It will not be the same size video as the raw data on the remote DVR. I believe their CMS package, is just a combination of software which includes the Center V2, among others, and which you have to pay for dearly.
