Does Infrared light work from inside a Fixed Dome?
rory replied to Fiona's topic in Security Cameras
BTW a *proper* system can include TDN Bullet Cameras, cost twice the price of a crappy CNB Monalisa dome and give a picture twice as good, not to mention they are actually weatherproof unlike the CNB domes - and also they come with built in IR .... planning comes with experience, if one does not use IR when needed, then they likely wont get anything useful, when needed (then they end up complaining about analog being crap and next thing you know they are buying into the Megapixel hype and ordering $10K avilon cameras and $1K Raymax Infrareds). Next thing they know the client goes with someone else because their NON IR system failed them, even if it only meant using a couple IR cameras at choke points. Sucks to be them -

They need to embrace the technology and not be scared of it. What happens when they break in and you dont get any video because there is no light? -

Sorry but most people live in the real world. More like, most people just buy the marketing hype and take what the salesdroid hands them, rather than planning a proper *system*. So you force the customer to leave the lights on at night in their store? -

Thats a regular dome housing though, the eyeball/turret domes dont have that problem. Also make sure the foam ring is tight against the cover otherwise the IR will get into the lens area. -

We always can get Megapixel/HD cameras to see better in low light but you will NEVER get more then D1 out of a analog camera physical restriction. sell $10 analog camera and buy US $100 1080p camera.

BT drivers should work for it, but then you will need to use generic software viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3938 viewtopic.php?f=2&t=26234 viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3865 viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10140 -

why when you can use something for a 1/10th the cost that has all the features that most clients use and can be setup in 1/100th the time??? Everything becomes obsolete sometime especially software, next release of Windows alone could make that happen. the stand alone cost pennies now .. in 5 years when you finally get around to getting those IP cameras .. that $100 stand alone served you well so you can make a boat anchor out of it or donate it to the needy or make a gold chain out of it or .. whatever you wanna do. You can do that with standalones today, so whats the question again? its what you are used to, thats all. Like MAC and Windows users, some are used to one (most pick Windows LOL). PC requires PC parts, I did it for several years, I built everyone of them, I didnt buy premade because none of them ever come properly setup (i have used premade and seen them enough times on this forum) I dont care if they call it Geo or Virgin, they never setup a PC DVR like I want it - point blank. BUT it takes time and that is money. And you may have an AC room and fire retention and generators and backup solar but the rest of the real world does not. But go with what you are happy with, thats all that matters in life. Ive argued for stand alones (Ge/Kalatel) back in the day when PC DVRs sucked big time and Ive argued for PC when the switch to PC became worth it .. now its the stand alone's time again they are just that good ... Ive developed software for all of them ... you might not like it, you might not use it, but the fact remains hundreds of thousands of others do and have. Its nice to have a difference of opinion though isnt it -
Id wait for them to throw their yard "waste" in on my property then id grab it and throw it right back in their stink face Seriously though, get some old bullet cameras, big old ugly things that stand out, dead ones even, and just mount them all over the place. They would act as dummy cameras. then get a few real cameras and make them less obvious. Catch the SOBs dumping their "waste" in your yard. Also you could buy a body camera from Amazon that has audio, and catch them in the act and get them to fess up to it, and now it is recorded. I dunno, I would just find something within the law that would make their living next to you miserable and when they complain tell them it might stop when they stop their crap. Play some loud gangsta music within legal level until the legal time (eg 12am) or just sit out in front their house revving up your 5.0 engine or Ninja motorbike Obviously the laws differ there though.

ok so basically with Win 7 its like this. if UAC is turned on then it cant write to the default folder as PSS doesnt raise the user level (something even I do in Vbscript), therefore it writes to the virtual store folder, and uses that folder for its data. If UAC is turned on, then it uses the default install path for its data. So I guess for my skins and fixes for PSS I need to raise the level in Win 7 (and likely vista) and write to both locations, incase the user turns off UAC after it has been setup/tweaked. I will probably make a backup of the replaced files under a different folder in the Users AppData path. And OR I can just create a PSS data folder in user documents and if they were to change their UAC then they could use PSS to import the data files (last menu item under settings manage). Why even care about this? Well its for the PSS auto installer and also the Skins, some people might be interested. With the PSS installer it can take preset devices and tasks (using a soon to come PSS Prep program) and install that along with the new PSS installation. Also it can install the skins so when it starts up the first time the skin is already installed. As well as it can copy or install other 3rd party programs, AND it can make shortcuts to all of them on the desktop and or start menu .. right now it works perfectly in XP as we can replace the files in the default path without raising the user level (PSS wont even work under a user account anyway), but now its time to get it to work with Windows Vista/7 .. as Windows 8 is right around the corner . -
NAS Recommendation as a surveillance platform
rory replied to matusiam's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
regarding geo vision, you could go ahead and download 8.5 and install it as an NVR only and then can get an idea of what cameras it supports. it will come up with an IP camera search, just let it do its thing then leave that open so the geo main system opens. When that opens you can select a brand and camera from the drop down. But I dont see any Avilon listed. It also has a protocol section, for example could add RTSP to a camera or DVR - but need a USB dongle for any device that is not geo vision. download 8.5 here.. http://www.bahamassecurity.com/downloads/geovision-latest-version.asp -
