DVR Proloader - version 2.0 This is simply a file that loads an image full screen for 10 seconds that says GeoVision GV-xx Digital Video Recorder. Sample: The main image used must be in the same path and is called LoadDVR.bmp. Image samples in 1280x1024 and 1024x768 included. You can use any image you like, any size. The image will not be resized though, so make sure to use an image that is the same size of the screen. Included main image is 1024x768, so change that accordingly Just unzip the files to the folder you wish to run it from. Click on the LoadDVR.exe file and since this is the first time, it will add itself to the Windows Startup. If the path changes (you move it somewhere else) you will need to run it manually again to reset the startup path. You can also manually change the startup info, but the value name must remain the same (LoadDVR) Eg: Place it somewhere on the PC then open RegEdit and locate: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and create a new String Value, name it LoadDVR, then enter the full path of the file as the value. I also suggest removing all icons from the desktop, that can be done manually or in the registry as well. To remove desktop icons by the registry (actually it just hides them), locate: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced and find the entry called HideIcons, make the value 1. To remove LoadDVR from startup, goto Start, Run, type in MSConfig and uncheck it from the Start up section. REQUIREMENTS: Visual Basic Runtimes (included with XP) 2 Main Files: LoadDVR.exe, LoadDVR.bmp DOWNLOAD: http://www.bahamassecurity.com/geo/LoadDVR.zip Questions, send me a PM. ..

make sure the webcam port is not being blocked by your ISP, some block port 80. Maybe change it to 81 or another, re port forward that, then try again. Rory

LOL .. back to the original question ... What kind of high end cameras did you have in mind? True Day Night with Infrared? Also what kind of distances, how is the lighting in those areas? Basically there are: 1-Day Night Bullet Cameras with IR and Mechanical IR Cut Filters 2-Professional Day Night Box Cameras in Housings with Separate IR such as Extreme CCTV UF100's and UF500's. 3-Long Range Day Night Cameras with IR such as Extreme CCTV EX82, ZX55, and perhaps additional Separate IRs. Now that said, how you will get the cable there is another issue. However you may want to look at amplifying the video at over 1000' as there will be video loss on RG59 Coax and definitely on UTP (Cat5). There is also always Wireless if they have even more cash to burn. Average $1500+ Retail per Wireless Setup for one camera, which would include a TX and RX; camera etc extra. Rory

flat screen VGA monitors vs CCTV monitors
rory replied to libertysurveillance's topic in General Digital Discussion
I knew this sounded familiar http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=9150 ---------------- My 2 Cents -------------------------------- An LCD is always a trade off for space saving over quality. Most ones labled CCTV LCDs simply have a Composite to VGA Converter built in. That only really matters if you are using a stand alone DVR with no VGA output, and still you can just use a convertor to a decent non CCTV LCD for the same end result. Cheaper LCDs will not look as good regardless, primarily due to the lower specs. Check the specs. If its too cheap, then there may be a reason. As already mentioned, the video is smaller than the native resolution. If you do not have the LCD set to the native resolution, it will also look worse. If using a PC based system with an LCD then use DVI for higher quality. Also, dont use WideScreen LCDs for CCTV. But no, it still wont match the CRT. ------------------------------------------------ PS. im using a 26" LCD TV for my home cameras. but I got it free! -
What would you want your camera to consist of, if you were building it .. For example some specifications and different types of cameras, like the Ultimate Vandal Dome Camera, Ultimate Box camera, etc // This would be primarily for those of us that have not yet found a perfect camera yet .. after testing many of them .. so primarily installers and perhaps some reps ... either way, post away and lets see how we maybe able to steer the market a little bit ..
-
I still like the GE CyberDome And to Sue, yes thats nice too, I would like even just a regular mini Vandal Dome with Zoom and auto focus that lets us change all the settings through our own software .. could then do that over the web ... sweet As for PTZs, most give you the protocols for them.

Yeah its only not useful as XP 32 Bit doesnt recognise over 3GB, though 64Bit does. Theres the catch, to get 4x2GB DDR3 RAMs and 64Bit XP.

whats your impression to "made in China"--survey
rory replied to leo0929's topic in Security Cameras
Actually no manufacturer from any country should be on the forum trying to sell anything, same goes for dealers. We have banner advertising for that. Also to answer your earlier post, the GE cameras are made in Taiwan, not that it matters though. -
Always helps, Geo is very Memory Intensive, more so than CPU even. More RAM the better, and at only $35 more I think 2GB is worth it. About the webcam server, doubt it, I occasionally connect to an old Geo PC DVR with only 256MB DDR, 2.6 Celeron, with 16 color cameras, and it is faster than most of the new ones, as they spend $1000 a month on their Broadband speed! Im actually bumping any new PCs I build up to DDR2-800 now also, as well thats only $40 more than 667. If I could do 8GB of Ram, I would then be a happy camper. PS. i updated the poll for you.

Not sure what that means; are higher quality products now being produced, and less quantity? Just so long as its not cloned in Hong Kong -
Typically, especially since ram is so cheap now, I think many like myself are using 2GB at least DDR2-667. Need a 2GB option

Was this issue ever fixed? Rory
-
Yes ... not sure if you can do it using the web browser or not though.

Partners list on the left (excluding my site as I dont sell), and banner ads at the top. At least a couple of them carry GeoVision. Rory

it looks legit, at least the price is normal retail. I would still look at one of the advertisers above though just to be sure. ps. had to remove the link per the forum rules, sorry

• Samsung Techwin vs Samsung Electronics (FACTS ONLY!)
rory replied to mcs's topic in Security Cameras
go make that money already PS. I think Techwin is a nice alternative to Bosch BTW, not as big a seller on this side though, GVI seems to have the samsung market in the US, for better or worse, but they are typically 2 totally different products. Even though I havent used Techwin, going by specs when I was researching the brand, I prefer them. -

rory replied to mcs's topic in Security Cameras
Yeah dont sell a whole lot of those cameras here either, as they well cost a crap load of money But still there is a best camera for every app, but its not from one particular brand .. guess thats what i was getting at .. but that doesnt mean we have to use them .. as well the best isnt always what is affordable or available Most down here just want the cheapest cameras .. luckily a couple customers I have had didnt care about money and just wanted the best for each location PS. the EX82 is more for high end apps like luxury homes, ocean front surveillance, etc. -
• Samsung Techwin vs Samsung Electronics (FACTS ONLY!)
rory replied to mcs's topic in Security Cameras
Well you dont have to use Bosch .. there are other brands just as good. Course if all your competition starts using the other brands then well If they have a specific type of camera that is the best for a specific app though, well shouldnt not use them just because the competition uses the brand .. now if you just dont want to use them, for whatever other reason, that is fine also -
LOL .. looks like he's reading the number off a paper or something too?

* cough * not the best on this side of the globe Not such thing as a brand that makes a best camera for all applications; one must shop around. -

Quick question about IR cut filter and true day/night cams
rory replied to photys's topic in Security Cameras
one doesnt filter the IR at all in the day, the other does. Normally they are cheaper cameras, and therefore less sensitive because of that. They dont filter IR at all. But there are exceptions to the rule, except there is one rule that always stays the same, you get what you pay for. -
For PTZ you simply add a small card (GV-NET) which costs less than $50 retail.
