Just read the article, good info, thanks for the link. I believe you actually posted something like that before, so was a good refresher Gonna read this one next, linked from that page. http://faq.storagereview.com/tiki-index.php?page=SingleDriveVsRaid0

I started buying direct from the manufacturer, as the OEMs from the distributors are always just dumped in at the top of the box to get mashed up in shipping .. only once in a while do I get an OEM drive from a distributor that is actually okay, most are noisy and damaged. So far every single one from the manufacturer has been great, but at a cost; it is much more expensive than buying from a distributor, and you are still essentially getting an OEM drive in the case of WD.

Hello :) Camera Installers From CENTRAL NEW JERSEY :)
rory replied to JerseyCCTV's topic in Introductions
Hi, welcome to the forum. -
a client upgraded their sons 26" LCD TV (being used for the PC) today for a new 32" LCD TV .. they bought a 23" LCD PC Monitor first but it was too small for their liking, so they went and got the 32" .. anyway so I was given the old 26" LCD TV and also the 23" LCD PC Monitor Now, not the configuration you might have thought but .. I got the 23" PC Monitor connected to my ViewSonic Next Vision 4, which converts the cable TV to VGA (along with also DVD on the S Video) .. then I have my 4 cameras on a 16 channel mux, connected to the 26" LCD, as it has an RCA input .. 16 channel mux as Im going to add a few more cameras. I also got a Phillips Pronto to play with .. so will see how that pans out. Though I already have a Pocket PC and that comes with its own Home Theatre Control software .. but the Prontos are dedicated to that kind of thing. Oh yeah, my PC monitor is just a lonely little 17" but thats cause that is the only size that will fit in my desk's "window" .. 19" Wide Screen LCD is on the ground for right now until I figure out where that is going to go, or what I can use that for .. So .. what do yall think? PS. Oh yeah, anyone in the Bahamas, dont come try rob me now, cause I got the rats on patrol and the stray dogs are also wandering around looking for a meal

the 596 looks pretty sweet on the 26" by itself

Cool, yeah if you had mentioned it was a PC Chips motherboard from the get go ... we would have told you right away But yeah I just had a PC DVR, a different brand card, where it was working fine for the past couple years, then stopped. Basically drivers would install okay but when you opened the program it would not see the card .. basically bad PCI bus on the mobo as the card worked in other PCs. Rory

Great, yeah the new one probably was never programmed to disable the title display. .. i guess.
-
that could depend on the size of the page file, like how much memory is in the PC and if you left it to the default windows setting. I would delete the C path as a recording folder, or if its a large drive and you dont want to reformat and partition, move the page file to another drive, partition that drive to something like 5-10GB depending on how much memory you have, and rest partitioned for the video; just leave a fixed 50-50mb file on the c drive. OR, make the page file on the c drive fixed.

Hi, did they reprogram everything how it was before? Maybe there is a title display setting enabled on one of the matrixes that wasnt before? Could it be coming through from the DVRs? Rory

whats your impression to "made in China"--survey
rory replied to leo0929's topic in Security Cameras
You sure? I Guess it could be where Phillips was located, in Europe? Or is it Australia? -
I just went and bought it a few weeks back, its just redirecting to my site for now.
-
yeah let us know, also from my dealings with distributors in Miami, it seems there's a distributor or 2 there selling the pirated cards.
-
not for me, but I just bought the domain cctvtester.com .. interested in a joint venture? Maybe get some free products from the asian manus

If it didnt come with a key then it doesnt need one .. if its legit that is. Normally the hacked ones dont use a key I think. Is the book a Geo book, white, does it have the Geo Logo on the front and say GeoVision, or is it a plain white book. Definitely I would contact the supplier. Otherwise you can try one of the other Geo Distributors and see if they can recommend anything. Rory
-
also try the detection tool on this web page; http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/5_0.asp

Older cards used a Key, which is the error you are getting. How old is it? Basically I started with Software version 6 and that required a USB key, Version 7.0 did not and havent used it since. However, if it was a Legit card, you should have been given the software on CD, as the card comes with that along with a big fat book
-
is the Key installed in the PC (parallell/USB)? Did it have one before? If so, are the drivers installed for that? Are the Card drivers also installed correctly in Device Manager?

How many wire to control PTZ
rory replied to GunRunner1's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
with PTZs just the 1 pair will normally control everything .. it is simply data sent to the device .. so it sends data to tell it to zoom or pan or tilt, same pair. BUT, check the manufacturer on that one, if you have a link to the manufacturers specs on their website please read or post it .. thanks Rory -
How many wire to control PTZ
rory replied to GunRunner1's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
its unshielded, Cat5. Basically they would suggest you use UTP Cable, which is Cat5, Cat2, or Cat3 .. I dont know the other 2 types, only ever used Cat5. Shouldn't be sending any voltage over that, and telco wire "should" work also as its just a data signal being sent; but its not a recommended cable for most PTZs. I believe you will need another pair if you want to receive data back from the camera. You will really need to read the Camera/Controller specs to see what the manufacturer recommends though. And yes Cat5 is the same network cable.
