    IP vs Analog

Network Video Servers if you need wireless, as then you dont need a seperate TX and RX for each camera, as you do with so called "analog". The thing is, DVRs have had integrated IP capability for many years now.

    Geovision gv600 update

You dont need a dongle to run 8.1.2. What version did the card come with?
  3. Im pretty sure it is only their video server, though I cant say 100%. Also, anyone with any Geo Servers online, want to through up a camera for a demo?
  4. Best bet is to see what Extreme CCTV has to offer. If you are indeed talking about a night camera.

    Remote DVR, anyone used it?

Is it just something like VNC or Remote Desktop, or is it more like a remote admin of just the DVR settings? Also, is it available for download anywhere to test out (try before you buy)?

    Remote DVR, anyone used it?

ok so I should continue to develop my own then? Basically i dont care about the PC side, all i need sometimes is to change camera titles, settings, DVR name, etc basically i started an app like that already, if there was something free available from Geo then i would just use that .. I am surprised they dont suply Remote Admin for free though, with the DVR card that is.

    Assisted Living Medical Alert System

did a couple when i was installing alarms .. simple 1 button wireless keyfob, can mount it, clip it on something (eg pocket, belt, etc), or wear around the neck ... tied into an alarm panel .. send emergency medical signal when they push it.
  11. I used Optex beams for several years while in the Alarm Industry .. everyone i know still does.
  12. Thanks JD .. thats good info .. Here it is converted to NTSC, thanks to JoinDVR:
  13. "The GV-1480 Combo Card is a high-end real-time video capture card capable of 16-channel video and audio monitoring, 480 FPS (NTSC) display, and 480 FPS (NTSC) recording rate at CIF resolution. With Intel's Core 2 Duo processor, the GV-1480 can record 16 channels 480 FPS in Geo MPEG-4 and Geo MPEG-4 ASP format, or 8 channels 240 FPS in Geo H264 format. Now, with the availability of quad-core processor, users can experience 16 channels 480 FPS in Geo H264 to get very high quality and record-breaking performance." http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/6_0_news.asp?stable=News&sfiled=nid&stable1=News&sfiled1=newid&pno1=1&title=News&gname=News&pno=295

    Bosch & Pelco Comparision

Why only Bosch and Pelco? There are others such as Panasonic, GE, Sanyo, etc .. No one manufacturer makes cameras for every situation .. best to look around for the best camera for the application.
  16. So is it only browser based, or do they supply software as well?
  17. yep, and yah dont even have to mount them, they just see around corners and such ..
  18. actually the ultimate DVR would come with free cameras
  19. Unfortunately any kind of books you find will quickly be outdated as this is an ever changing industry. Though you should be able to learn something about the basics from them, and go from there on your own.
  20. I just built one actually i would prefer a really small one, with a BNC Backplane ..

    Is this system any good?

Its still a very old chipset ... Granted there is a markup, the parts they include in the PC side of it, are very very cheap right now, in fact that would be listed as a very budget PC.
  22. You will be very limited if you stick to just one brand. No brands in the industry make a decent camera for every application. You should vary it, go with the best camera for the application, this can be from Sanyo, Bosch, GE, etc, depends. None of them have an all around solution.
