    Police Interview/Interrogation Room Help

And you could sell them the IR Remote, they never need to touch a mouse or keyboard .. just leave that for their main techy.

Home CCTV law in the UK?

Just ignore them. Hopefully they will loose interest. As for cameras that view the road, they gotta be joking!
  3. Yep and dont forget, no more hard drives Cant wait for that .. they have huge solid state drives now .. pricey but hey .. we can only wait .. 256GB SSD announced .. http://www.pqi.com.tw/news_1.asp?ID=1617 (heard simpltec also announced 500GB ones for this year) Ahhh ... technology But hey, they'll still be DVRs .. Digital Video Recorders ... even an NVR is a DVR .. just a marketing pitch is all .. as they both record Digital Video ... hey we use DVRs to record TV and all .. the term DVR wont go away anytime soon .. unless we get rid of Digital Video ... just like an AvTech 4 channel is completely different from a Geovision 1480 ... but they're still DVRs .. yet they are soooo different. * hooks up his 3MP digital still camera that cost $99 and watches the crisp images from it .. yet remembers cant see what he took at night, as its one of the cheap cmos cameras , so goes back to his sweet analog (so called digital) camera on his 13" CRT TV **
  4. Yeah that IS great Been around for a while also .. (Covi, etc) .. (not 20 MP though .. thats rough) .. I imagine they have taken it somewhat further now also ... Heck I could do that with my USB webcam using my own code .. thanks for the ideas ... Though most places Ive seen arent unobstructed .. except some car park areas .. (sorry no stadiums down here) .. my place for one example .. i have 4 cameras mounted .. but I need at least 6 .. reason is one on each side of the building .. then down one side there are trees that the landlord decided to leave there .. tropical thing and all .. anyway i have to add at least another 2 cameras .. but really i need a few more than that, time as i get around all the trees, bushes, and buildings . .. If I want full coverage that is Now a Megapixel camera would be great and all, but as a typical home user, no way Im shelling out the cash for one of those .. man these $50 bullets work just fine Maybe in time they will drop the cost on those to mimic the cost of my bullet camera .. until then ...

    Anyone seen this DVR before?

10 years is kind of pushing it, you can get an easy 5 years out of one that cost maybe $5000+ retail, the big brands .. but the OEM ones .. you are lucky if you get a couple years from it, let alone 10 years .. Besides that, technology changes quickly these days.

Does more TVL reduce "Jaggy lines"

thats simply cause you are blowing the image up from its source size. In other words, if your screen res is 1280x1024, and your video is 640x480 ... when the video is in full single view, it is being enlarged. If you view it at its original size, it is fine, no jaggy edges. Also the jaggy edges should only show on high contrast or bright sections of the image, at least from video i have here on record. Now if the camera is low res also, then its being enlarged even more.

Viewing my CCTV on Pocket PC.

they need either: 1-Java Based Viewer 2-JavaScript Image Push Viewer 3-Client Software for Pocket PC Basically if they dont offer either of these, you will not be able to view the video on your pocket PC. Many DVRs will advertise whether they have a viewer or method available for the Pocket PC/PDA.

GeoVision GV-1480 slowing down local network

how many cameras are you connecting to at one time? With WebCam and Multiview each camera is a separate connection. Have you tried setting the webcam to H.264? You can set the compression for the webcam separate from the recorded video. This has helped me here with a slow DSL connection. Also set the video quality to low 320x240. Color cameras will require more bandwidth. Also if the color camera is high resolution with alot of detail, even more bandwidth. Have you tested your DVR's upload speed? That is what matters. If they are using any kind of Remote Desktop thats going to make the network slower as well (moreso in full colors), and then streaming video will just bog it down even more.

    Computers Power Supply

I wouldnt. Just buy a 12VDC power supply one time, you can get a 2Amp plug for like $10 these days. If you dont want to spend the $40-50 for a fused distributed supply, that single plug can power several 12VDC cameras if needed.
  11. Hi all, We welcome 2 new moderators to the forum, Kensplace and ColinR. Kensplace is in the UK and ColinR is in the US. Hopefully this will help take some of the load off my back. Good luck guys. Thanks Rory

    Neighbor taping me

Gee, why didn't I think of that? I'll pack up 20 years worth of my life and improvements on my house and uproot my entire life because a bully moved in next door to me. Great solution...this reminds me why I stay single. I can hook you up with some prime real estate down here overlooking the ocean Seriously though, have you tried sending him a letter yet? Or have you talked with him already? Whats his beef, what does he want?
  17. make them put the window down .. install a fake gate buzzer or something ..

    Neighbor taping me

mirrors for daytime, spotlights for night, and lots of RF ... in any event, as its one of those cheap hidden cameras, its going to have horrible light handling features (not designed for outdoors), wont see much at any kind of distance ... and if its a BW camera or even if not, the image will probably be horrible anyway. I wouldnt worry too much about it.

8.11 main system software does not install

did you also clean the registry? also see my removal tool in the sticky. Rory
  20. Hi, with that DVR you are probably stuck with the included Remote Viewer, as most budget DVR companies dont provide SDKs for developers. The viewer you heard of is just for the GeoVision PC DVRs, though i have another one for the GE Kalatel DVRs and have done a couple more for 2 other PC DVRs. Rory

    Abnormal Program Termination

Yep i use CCleaner to clean the registry .. see this post. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=54174#54174 Also the INI files are also left in the windows directory. Their installer program is actually an outdated version, I wish they would update it. I mentioned that before when i was working with it for the automated install exe, which I dropped as too many errors. The VBscript version with simple Send Keys works though.
  22. Yeah but everything gets outdated sooner or later, analogue, IP, network, TVs .. doesnt matter how high tech or easy something may seem at the time, it will surely be outdated in the not to soon future, and something new will take its place. Thats just the way the cookie crumbles. Just do your best at the time with what you have available and what the client needs. Most importantly, be happy with what you do.

    GV800 pos database corupt problem

uninstall .. remove all GEO files .. use my uninstaller program in the sticky if you like .. if you can afford to do so, remove all Geo files in the windows directory also. Remove drivers, reboot. Do a full scan on the hard drive. If it comes out okay, Reinstall drivers ... reload software. Are there any other errors with other software? Does the hard drive make alot of noise? Could the memory be bad? Could the hard drive be bad? Rory
  24. its a cheap unit, very small also. Great for budget jobs. Avermedia Network Software video quality is much better (AvTech's Network software just isnt that great, BUT it does work). Other than that for the price cant beat it.
