  1. Ignore any motion you see when you are in the motion detection masking section. I havent trird 8.11 yet but in 8.1 seems fine. Will be getting the newest one on CD with the next DVR card, by Friday or early next week.

    Abnormal Program Termination

according to Dells website, its an 845PE Intel Chipset. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4550/specs.htm#1101572 Although its an Intel chipset, which is suggested by Geo and others, its an older one. This may cause an issue. What to do is goto Intel's site and download the latest Chipset drivers. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=757&DwnldID=8178&strOSs=44 Also make sure you have the latest drivers for the Radeon 8500. Cant say this will fix it or not, it could still be corrupt Geo software, or even something to do with Windows XP. Could also be a hardware issue, like bad memory/hard drive; which leads to this question, do strange errors occur in any other software, or even just in Windows? Have you been able to test it in another PC yet? Do you know what version Geo software came with the card, was it 8.1 or an older one?
  3. I only wish that was true! what are you having problems with, or should i say paying for? Short of vandalism, acts of god, bad parts, which can occur in any industry .. actually dont answer that .. cause we would then be getting way off topic but please do start a new thread on that if you like
  4. Actually i was talking about the most expensive consumer PC based DVR system ... high quality computer parts and a high quality DVR card .. Also i was meaning the Milestone software licence per camera, the base price, then the custom built NVR, and network hardware (not wiring), against 4x custom built 16 channel Real Time PC DVRs using the latest hardware. ps. typically, once installed correctly, there are no ongoing costs for a CCTV system. But dont get me wrong, i do understand the usefulness of the IP based system with 50+ cameras .. especially even moreso when dealing with wireles over 16 cameras.

    Hello...

    Welcome!
  6. Actually you can get a 2 channel DVR if needed, very cheap, or even if you do 4 x 16 channel DVRs it still works out approx $5,000 cheaper than the Milestone software licenses on an NVR. Just food for thought

    Abnormal Program Termination

I dont know how the system is setup, so cant really say. Anyway, is there anything else installed such as Anti Virus Software, Anti Spyware, etc, also any other hardware we should know about? What are the PC specs, particularly the motherboard and chipset? Also the video card model? Rory

disable automatic updates .. SP2 and XP tweaked (dont leave it as default XP setup) will work perfectly.

How long should a B&W dome last? MTBF on average?

they are OEM cameras also .. but even the big brand names can die .. sometimes you just get a bad batch.. .just expect the lower priced models to go easier.0
  10. LOL .. looks like they installed it themselves .. Oh my, tape to hold the camera up .. i got a couple cameras sitting in the garage without mounts .. maybe ill try that

How long should a B&W dome last? MTBF on average?

I imagine the obvious was also done, cleaning them? Also, budget cameras typically dont last as long, at least the image gets worse over time .. the $50 bullets for example (that ive used) give a great image for about 1 year then gets worse .. they can last to an extent but the lighting effects them greatly after that .. cheaper chips, cheaper lenses, and iris controlled by the camera, sun probably damages them also, as well as heat. Also, it could just be the Iris are bad on the Varifocal lenses in the domes, in your case.
  12. Catch it at an angle for starters ...
  13. we use regular PVC conduit down here, direct bury cable is expensive and hard to come by around here.
  14. a regular camera will do it, I did it at a secu booth a few years back using vandal domes, just color domes, nothing special. Though occasionally it would not work, those times it would have been better with a WDR camera, also requires alot of light.

    Removeable Case Fan Filters?

thats pretty cool Actually its not that bad, just a typical room .. but im looking at the Istar cases now .. though i like Antec .. the Istar's come with all the bells and whistles also such as removable Drive bays, all the great large fans i need down here, and just waiting to hear back on whether their filters are removable or fixed. Now if I can make /get some filters for the other existing cases ..

    Removeable Case Fan Filters?

hi, meaning the cable molding right? Guess I could buy the smaller ones then cut them and glue them into a 3 way piece, drill some holes, mount then then put a filter in that .. ill check it out .. thanks! Wish there was something made already though Rory

Need advice for a new 4-Cam DVR System

That would be retail. Also it would be OEM cameras. Higher quality cameras could cost more (3-5 year warranties, $500-2000). You could go even more budget but many installers dont like to install them, plus they dont make much money on the parts. Budget would be something like the AvTech or CPCam DVR (same thing), and cheaper bullet cameras (less features). With bullet cameras look at it this way, there are basically 3 types of cameras with color; Color only bullet, Color/IR bullet, True Day Night Bullet camera. The prices are different. There are also varying types of each inbetween and they can differ in minor features, and looks, from price and from one OEM to the next. Best low light without IR will be BW cameras though. Retail pricing, decent True Day Night domes can run you over $500, while True Day Night bullets will run around $350. With box cameras running over $600+ with housing, lens etc, and giving the best image. Then there are the Extreme cameras running over $1000+. Anyway, not sure on the Pelco, dont know anyone that uses it., but they are a good name. You might want to look at PC cards also, if you are PC literate capable of some building, you could make yourself a decent PC based DVR loaded with features, at the same time being able to maintain it yourself. There are many online stores that spec dealer pricing, but we dont discuss them here

    icrealtime pro8 vs panasonic wj-rt 208

Yep, would be approx $1000 to land it here with current customs taxes (without fixing the price), including shipping, definitely not worth it just to demo any product. Customs even go online these days to verify the retail price also. PC products are duty free though, just not something like stand alone DVRs, Video Recorders, etc. In any event, noone needs my opinion on a product to decide whether it is good or not, never let than hold anyone back from trying anything out. Personally when i said GE, thats just a personal opinion, when i pay that $1000 to land it here plus the cost of the product (same as ICR and Pano), i know its going to do what I need, I know because Ive used it before, and well its GE (Kalatel), call it a pet peeve perhaps, either way, notice the smiley next to it in my original post. Right now I wouldnt buy a GE either, PC parts are cheaper to import here, and easier (cheaper) to maintain.

You need the older software for them probably, and also the Dongle for each one, if they have removed them.

    How to improve this image

Ignore the TVL, look for the Effective Image Pixels, that is what effects the actual quality of the picture. Also features built into the camera such as handling of light, as well as the lens itself, make a huge difference. Cheap camreras wont be as good as a Pro camera, basically. The cost diff between an low res OEM Box camera and a high res brand name is so small (in the color only range). In any event I would never buy an low res OEM box camera, and neither will I ever buy a low res brand name box camera. If you do, you can expect the same results you have now, even a high Res OEM wont make much of a difference, depends on the camera though. As to the DVR, doesnt matter, get a decent camera first. Also, a cheaper camera normally suggests cheaper Chips, which means less features, less quality image in varying conditions.

Shaky video and and computer crashing...

Your talking about the GV-1120 to gv-1480 range yes? You get good DSP results on the computer screen using on-board graphics with this MB? If so im converted. Yes, the 1120 specifically. Looks pretty much the same with VGA. The DVI is the only real difference, and even that isnt much when dealing with LCD monitors and CCTV Video. The DSP has nothing to do with the actual video card used either.
  25. 7 or 8 level should work, yes 9 was extra sensitive.
