Where do you buy CCTV Products?

You guys might want to check out this DVR. http://powertelecomm.com.hosting.domaindirect.com/product_16300.htm Great remote video quality, and solid. Its OEM also so other OEMs sell it as well. One thing with PowerTeleComm though is their products typically stay around. You should be able to find it at various retail stores and distributors. My colleague here use to sell the Nubix and its okay, but personally I dont like the way they change the entire unit manufacturer over time. The Nubix use to be the ActiveTec unit, now its a totally different brand. I actually had a shopping cart set up with all the Eclipse products, then come time to release it, they stopped selling the Nubix (ActiveTec version) and came out with something else .. use to sell their PC based DVRs also, that was fun .. LOL .. cheapest parts they could find in the ready built systems .. some cards never even worked when purchased separately (drivers rarely worked also). They have replaced most of them that are out there in the field by now due to PC hardware failures - replaced to Geos. Their cameras are "okay", very basic but typically work. Been there done that, they really only have 2 decent enough bullet cameras though, the ECL-596 and the ECL-598HIM, the ECL-377X is not bad either, good for low light but horrible image in the day and either way very low quality image. All the other Eclipse cameras we have here are pretty much not worth it, but then you get what you pay for. They are still better than COP cameras IMO as i used them before as well. Also, i never did like the "language" barrier from Miami businesses, I dont understand Spanglish Still have alot of stock on hand and as demos at the CMS, and still sell some of the eclipse cameras due to the budget constraints down here, shipping, and customs charges - they are cheaper. But looking at higher quality products at this time, they seem to be tired of the low quality.

    Video Baluns and Cat 5

active is amplified ... never used one myself. You can mix and match .. either have a passive on all cameras, and 1 active Receiver/Transceiver at the head unit, or active on all cameras, and 1 passive Receiver/Transceiver at the head unit. Active costs much more though, which is why I said only if they can afford it. Check out NVT and Nitek. http://www.nvt.com/ http://www.nitek.net/
  4. Ive never used them, dont plan to. Others seem to be happy with them. I will be testing their budget stand alone DVRs though. Either way they would be better than a Swan or QSee.
  5. More channels would be so that incase they later decide to add another camera or two. Yes "Smart Record" is available through the Geo software for all cards, as far as I know, at least the GV600, GV650, and GV800.

    Video Baluns and Cat 5

If they can afford it, get Active. Use an Active RX and a Passive TX, or vice versa. I found passive baluns at 200' to be degraded video compared to RG59 Coax; 2 different brands i used. Theoretically you should be able to push them to at least 750' according to manufacturer specs for DVRs, some say even more.
  7. If you can afford it, go with the GV800, if not, then the GV650 would suffice, other than that, I would just step right down the the GV250 if they are on a budget due to the price. But for the Jewellery store i would go at least Gv650, they should be able to afford it. However a colleague here with an alarm monitoring station has a Gv1120 and is running 1fps on all cameras (per camera) on continuous record, and it is fine, they never miss anything. Back in the old days it was typical to be recording at lower than 1fps and they still captured evidence without a problem, well obviously in high traffic areas such as streets, there were issues. Also, if you have say a 60fps card with 4 cameras, and use motion recording, using "Smart Record" it will adjust the fps depending on which cameras are picking up motion. So if only two cameras are picking up motion at one time, those 2 cameras will adjust to 30fps each. You can also optionally change the fps per camera manually.
  8. Thanks! Thats good to know

Where do you buy CCTV Products?

If you're looking to do something out of Freeport, let me know, as a colleague here is going to be starting a retail DIY CCTV/Video Store in Nassau .. maybe able to team up and then less headaches in the long run .. more heads are better than one .. plus would get to test everything before they sell it. I dont know what the Freeport market is like these days though. How is it coming together after the hurricane damage? Thats where i was born and raised BTW!
  10. Hi, if anything that would be a limitation of Geo itself, their ActiveX Control, the same thing found in the Geo Browser Applications. I never had an issue over Wireless myself, at least once i had a good connection, never tried Verizon though. One thing to remember though is that each single camera is a separate connection, thats the way Geo's ActiveX is and which is why it is so customizable.
  11. thanks, that seems to play more than windows media player can. however, with a few files, from a specific geo vision pc which i dont have the version number for at this moment, it freezes up and asks me to send an error report. basically it installs the codec when you open it, if it isnt already registered, but not the 2 codecs i mentioned above. If you can find out which Geo is giving the error, and what codec it was recorded in, let me know. Thanks. BTW, it actually uses Windows Media Player, whichever is installed on your PC. Rory
  12. try this .. not updated for H.264 or Mpeg4 ASP yet though. http://www.bahamassecurity.com/Geo/GeoPlayer.zip

NY Install - Need Surveillance & POS

^^ LOL ... to cold2000us, Id suggest you check with Retailers or installers in your area, if you dont know any installers, check with a Retailer and see who they recommend. Also check the forum's advertisers (banner ads), as some may be located in your area, or even if you goto a retailer out of area, they should be able to recommend an installer in your area. Or fly in CCTV Down Under and he will do it for free ..

Where do you buy CCTV Products?

I dont buy from Silmar, long story. Anyway, Northern Video is great, but really they are too far away for us. I wish they would setup down in Florida or even one of the States near there .. maybe one day .. but then they would be called Southern Video .. Ive actually been buying from one of the forum's Advertisers, they are located up in NY but it takes no time for them to get to my freight forwarder in Florida, who then ships down here. Plus I lived in their town for a couple years so I know where to find them .. (just kidding guys LOL) .. but yeah I need to take a trip up there soon just to say hi, as its not far. They sell the products I need, they do sell Retail but also have decent Distributor pricing, and unlike most of the distributors in South Florida that i dealt with over the years, they reply to email straight away. Oh yeah they speak English also Bottom line, Florida, especially South Florida, is very limited in its selection of decent CCTV Distributors. I really do wish someone could prove me wrong, but thats just the way it has been over the years.

Sata Raid 0 with WD Raptor

quick question .. with raid 0 ... if you have an image already .. do you just restore that image to the hard drive that will be set up as a primary drive .. then put the 2 drives in, go into windows XP (on the drive that had the image restored to it) and load some Raid 0 drivers or config program to create the arrays, or is that done before windows? In other words can the data stay intact and then you just create the raid arrays with the primary hard drive already loaded with XP, without loosing any data? thanks .. as you can see ive never had more than 1 hard drive personally
  19. or get a cheap consumer capture card for your PC and do raw video capture as AVI ... DVR video out like mentioned to the Capture Input, then you can do what you like with that video.

Major Players in the CCTV Industry

He's responding to HeyJules2 in reference to another thread.
  21. I doubt it would go 100 feet though .. you would really need a seperate TX and RX and for $500 the only guys that sell stuff like that is very cheap gear such as COP USA, maybe some others similar to that also. I used the COP USA wireless TXs and RXs years back and yes they went over 100' but they get really hot and also lots of frequent interference at 1.2 or 2.4 ghz. Even so to get the distance (like 150' for a 1000' TX) they had to be mounted high. We soon realized they were rubush and chucked them and ran wire. That said, you might get lucky
