BTW .. CSI/Speco and Provideo are the same, and they are OEM, they buy from asia and rebadge ..
-
she buys $10K TVs, has 30 workmen at her home on any given day doing this project and that project .. so overkill is yeah ... thats what she likes
-
Trust me .. software wise its tweaked as much as I could .. also remember she is running all the Nortons software on the market .. dont ask .. she just has a thing for Nortons .. so though nothing else she uses really effects the speed, Nortons is always there, well there is Office 2007 also, but that loads fast on that PC. She likes all the XP graphics also .. All brand new so no need to swap anything right now .. when the quad core drops in price we will change the mobo and go quad core, probably 1066 memory also if its stable at that point if not 800 .. but for now its Mushkin Dual Channel DDR2-667 2GB Memory, and a Core 2 Duo 2.6 (E6700) the one just below the Quad Core. As to cooling, its great right now, CPU and mobo in the 30's. 1x 120mm rear exhaust fan and 1x 80mm front inward fan, and 1x 80mm fan on the CPU mounted to the side panel. There is no warranty by myself, it is all purchased direct by her from the US .. I just built it .. something goes wrong i fix it and I get paid is all .. As to rebuilding the raid etc .. with 1 hard drive in normal setup, one hiccup and the same issue exists anyway .. so the issue is not that, the issue is what will give the fastest performance on the HDD side of things, leaving the rest as is .. Course the biggest issue is how to get those 10K drives here from the US without the usual damage the other hard drives have incurred during shipping
-
ok .. so basically though, using 2 drives, it would be twice as fast as a regular setup right? If so then that would suffice for what she does .. that would make a big difference either way .. it seems? Any ideas on PCI Cards, maybe just Adaptec 2 port or would a cheapo one work? The PCIex16 video card is so close to the PCIex1 slot not sure if that would work well to usea PCIe controller card.
-
yes she has the $$ and wants the fastest ... well it is fast now .. but id like to make it faster anyway According to this article .. the more HDDs the faster it gets with Raid 0? http://pcpitstop.com/news/maxpc/disk.asp
-
this is for a home PC for a client .. she has a Core 2 Duo 2.6 with 2GB DDR2 667 etc .. just want to see if we can get more speed out of it .. loosing data isnt an issue .. its just for email and other basic use, and she backs up alot to an external USB drive .. so its primarily for speed. Size isnt really an issue also as all her docs only total like 20MB

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6300 P4M800PRO-M V2 Motherboard

true .. what about the CPU? I dont see that 1.8 E6300 being that fast, considering the speed of this E6700 .. -

No fan? It still needs the CPU Cooler (fan/heatsink) though stock should suffice, get a case with the CPU shute and place a fan on that blowing air into the case onto the CPU .. nice and cool .. i ordered a high speed thermaltake CPU cooler and its sitting right here on the floor now, was nice and fast and cool but too loud .. i put the stock Intel cooler back on the CPU and added an antec 3 speed fan (with LEDs) on the cases CPU shute and both the P4 and the Core 2 Duo stayed in the 30's with no A/C .. I wish I could just "take" things back I doubt it has onboard video if thats what you are asking. Have been looking at a ton of things tonight, this was just one of them .. 2 of the Antech SLK-1650Bs came with damaged top panels so i was also looking for replacements for those panels .. I think that P5B Deluxe is a nice general board from the first looks .. as it would work with Pentium 4's, D's, Core 2's, and Quad Cores. Maybe would want to go with a larger case for that one, and do SCSI Raid. I know nothing of Raid yet though so ill be learning that one. I think ill build one of these with 8GB of Dual channel DDR2-1066 Memory and a Quad Core CPU .. what you think? -

Dont know about the intel boards, but i was looking at this Asus one earlier tonight .. 965 chipset .. good reviews which is important. $185 though. Does Pentium as well as Core 2 Duo and Quad Core. http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=307&model=1295&modelmenu=1 Then there was this one .. but i think the 975 is overkill right now .. $250 http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=248&model=1341&modelmenu=1 -
router/modem and hub performance ??
rory replied to blowrabbit's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
see this reply http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=57881#57881 otherwise i dont know much about DSL as Cable is the fast broadband down here .. -
does the kind of router / hub affect performance
rory replied to blowrabbit's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Since a basic router is like 100 Mbps it wont matter much, but you could expect lockups on cheaper ones with excessive bandwidth .. though your main bandwidth issue will remain with the ISP. I locked my Linksys router up a couple times when testing 64 camera streaming on my software ... but not 100% sure that it wasnt actually the Cable Modem instead of the router .... either way they both locked up and had to be reset .. see this image where i was streaming 51 connected cameras in 320x240 resolution each ... notice I wasnt even using 2.5% of the routers total bandwidth. -
I've never seen a 1/4" Box camera ... and even more difficult to find a 1/4" Varifocal Lens .. so that really depends on which lens you are talking about which will be going on that 1/4" box camera.

How about a stand alone embedded DVR?? Or depending on the need, a portable DVR?
-
Geovision asked for a serial number? What software version is this, and how old is the card? Ive never seen it ask for a serial number before.
-
If its normal on a Spot Monitor, and only happening on your PC, then could be a codec issue. What type of file is it, or is this live video?

some video cards dont support overlay, mostly the cheaper and older cards. Explanation of Video Overlay: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_overlay with DVR software, its typically used for Full Screen (Direct Draw Overlay) Also make sure you have an updated version of DirectX. (9.0 will suffice) other than that, im no expert on it so will need to rely on that article above. -
they shouldnt be "going to sleep" .. How are they setup?

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6300 P4M800PRO-M V2 Motherboard
rory replied to Arockerdude's topic in Geovision
Yes it has onboard graphics. Ive used that, also this one I just built has a ATI X1300 pro PCIe Card .. not bad .. but ill tell you, the Core 2 Duo 2.6 doesnt seem much faster than a P4 3.2 if you ask me .. definately not anymore than a 3.4 pentium D ... but costs outrageously more ..! Anyway I guess cause its a new CPU .. also Nortons (the client uses that arghh!!!) puts the CPU at 100% alot .. darn Nortons .. otherwise everything else opens and runs fast as should. Though to be honest I have a Noisy Seagate 250GB Sata, im going to image it tomorrow and swap it for a Western Digital 250 sata locally .. this one is just too noisy .. one thing i noticed when i partitioned it as I normally do, it was much slower, however thats not the case with the P4 .. anyway I had to make 1 single NTFS partition to get the full speed for some reason .. been working on it all day and night so cant count how many times its been reformated this way or that .. to come to that conclusion .. Also, tried the overclocking feature built into the Asus Bios .. the system didnt like it .. locked up in different configurations before even getting into Windows ... I may have simply needed a larger PSU (which i do have here also) but I want to stay at 350 for this one .. and all the client uses it for is Email really. The 2GB Mushkin memory doesnt seem to feel a whole lot more than 1GB Corsair Value Memory .. at least its not that noticeable. That said, I dont normally install ALL of the Norton applications on PCs I build/setup, in fact I never use Nortons at all now, but the client likes and uses them for some reason; and they are all very memory and CPU intensive. Ill give you some more feedback when i get the new HDD in and delivered. If you have some cash to burn, you could look at a larger Asus board and add 4GB of DDR2 something like the 800 type, but thats alot of $$ right now .. add a Quad Core and ba da bing .. LOL .. Personally Id stick with the P4 3.2 or PD 3.4-3.6 for now, unless you are going with the Core 2 Duo 2.6 like this one, or the Quad Core (big $$), as I cant imagine the lower Core 2's being worth their price tag either, right now. Dont mind me though, im a speed freak .. but no way im going to risk fully over clocking a clients $600 CPU anyway! rory -

Ive been buying from Directron lately .. they have all those parts. One other thing i use though they dont have is the Antec 3 speed LED fan .. i get them here though, I use one for the front and one for the CPU cone .. the case comes with 1x 120mm. Setup like that, the CPUs run in the 30's without AC and in all this heat i use this smaller mobo as i use the Antec mini case. If you need Raid I would go with a bigger mobo. -
^^ what he said .. and get a dog ..

Is it just me, or the is uk cctv industry over priced?

http://www.extremecctv.com/products.php?producttype_id=14&whichpage=1 this would explain the price tag. -
How to change ip address on linksys for port forwarding?
rory replied to pk5's topic in Computers/Networking
dont know if it matters, but perhaps change BOTH in the port forwarding to TCP only. Also, Telnet is an easy way to test if a port is open at the remote IP. -

rory replied to kensplace's topic in Test Bench
metal mickeys? if those are the Extreme CCTV PTZs they probably run around $10-15K each, not sure about the cost in the Uk. When you say poles, are these the actual poles or just the mounts? Yeah thats quite a bit of $$ if you ask me .. I remember the cops here told me a local business sold them a DVR a couple years ago for $17K (came with win 98 but they had them put win2K on it!) which cost approx $1-2K first cost at the time, if that!!!!!! Yeah so some companies see the government coming and run with it, all the way to the bank!!!!! LOL -
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6300 P4M800PRO-M V2 Motherboard
rory replied to Arockerdude's topic in Geovision
Ive been using the following Asus Motherboard recently, building a home PC with it right now actually, also just sent one down to the out islands with this mobo. Recently built a GV1120 system with this and using onboard video, works great. The PCI express card will give you the higher quality live video though if using the DVI video port. http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=194&model=1320&modelmenu=1 As to the Core Duo Processor, im building one right now with the 2.6 Ghz Core 2 (E6700), otherwise P4 3.2 processors typically work fine for a DVR and would itself be a huge upgrade in speed to what you have now. I see the E6300 listed at $199 online, not sure if its worth the extra cost for what we do. Im putting 2x1GB of this memory in this home PC: http://www.mushkin.com/doc/products/memory_detail.asp?id=348 But 1GB Value Ram is normally fine. Bottom line, dont go cheap on the Motherboard for a clients PC/DVR, its not worth it. The Asus P5L-MX is still pretty inexpensive, compared to other Asus boards, but its more than say some MSIs, ECS, or Biostar, and well worth the extra few dollars. You really do notice the difference in quality of the hardware. -

Will do for certain, probably another month or 2 yet though, I hope for a final release by around August, with the beta a month before that.
