  1. yeah but not in the cameras we use Are there any links to these, im interested
  2. Im not, just going by their specs, and my eyes
  3. Thats the link I posted before, also the 1480 always was able to do 480fps in 320x240 in Geo Mpeg4, with the 1120 at 120fps in 320x240, according to the specs from when they were released. Going by the info in that link and what they were capable of doing before, this part leads me to believe with the Quad Core it now pushes 640x480, unless they just released the news for the codec, or could be their translation to English "With Intel's Core 2 Duo processor, the GV-1480 can record 16 channels 480 FPS in Geo MPEG-4 and Geo MPEG-4 ASP format, or 8 channels 240 FPS in Geo H264 format. Now, with the availability of quad-core processor, users can experience 16 channels 480 FPS in Geo H264 to get very high quality and record-breaking performance." Still poor though as their H.264 quality is not exactly that great, plus the cost of a Quad Core CPU isnt exactly inexpensive yet. from (what use to be and should still be) the card manufacturer site: This was the same before h.264 was released. ---------------------------------------------------------- 16CH Real-Time Display + 400/480FPS Raw Data Capture Video Input : 16CH (PAL/NTSC) Audio Input : 16CH Display Frame Rate : 400/480FPS Capture Frame Rate - 480 FPS @ CIF - 240 FPS @ 2CIF - 120 FPS @ D1 - Single card solution for video capture & real-time display Resolution Max. 720 * 576 (PAL) / 720 * 480 (NTSC)
  4. Which info is that in regards to 640x480, with the Quad Core CPU and H.264? If so it was a news item from their website. To the quality, actually it will be higher quality on the LCD monitor if you have a Video card with a DVI connection. Single view on the 1120 I had was actually the bad quality though I was talking about. They were always in real time though in live view. Its also possible that they have improved the cards, since this is a new one right?

    Wireless? or Conduit?

Darn, and the price was so good on the non lan version. Guess will have to shop around some more now ..

    Wireless? or Conduit?

Yep thats the one, also the same unit without lan, lots of people down here looking for the cheapest solution but something that works, no Lan required in most cases.

    Wireless? or Conduit?

Do you have a link to that one, and is it a stand alone unit, non PC? Looking for some products for a retail DIY store down here .

dust on the lens will cause little dots like that also. Corse its a PTZ so you cant just swap the lens, i would try cleaning that first if you havent already. Also dust can get on the Chip or behind the lens, if it was handled incorrectly, and that will also cause spots. That would not normally happen unless you removed the lens though., unless it came dirty from the manufacturer or retailer. What brand is it? I would try cleaning the lens first, just the front part, if it is still bad, then return the camera as you dont want to mess with the rest of it, plus it could be something actually faulty.

    Wireless? or Conduit?

It works pretty well, I don't fully "get" it yet but it works. For some reason live view appears to support the full range of resolutions, but when I playback I get 800x600. Like I said I haven't fully tweaked it so it may just be in config. The TV out does not support IP cams, so note that if you wanted it. which model is that, the black one with MPeg4 and lan? thats the ones were were going to test .. thanks
  10. Ok good to see you are getting somewhere with it .. sorry havent had much time to go through the forums recently .. I never did like the Avtech client software, nor their browser app .. always had issues with it, and yes Java can have many problems also. A couple PCs i used would not even load the Java apps at all .. something was corupt. Best to try and get your hands on a new install of Java and see if that helps. I think their browser app was a mix of Java and ActiveX though right? If so, could be the security settings in IE or something corupt with IE .. that happens ... lots of time in the registry also .. fresh install should have fixed that though.

is this a PC DVR? Is it just one single camera or all cameras? I had the same exact thing with one PC DVR i built using an MSI board, and when I changed the motherboard, it was fine. Dont know still what the issue was, updated everything, just had to be a bad motherboard, as no matter what Video card that was placed in it, CPU changed, totally different cameras, etc, same thing. But mine effected all cameras, it came and went, got worse over time, sometimes was worse and sometimes only effected part of the video or video windows, even in the blank screen section where there was video loss or no camera connected. Possibly was something to do with the PCI express slot, or PCI bus. Formatting over and over again and changing all Bios settings, video settings, etc, did nothing to fix the problem. It was a Geo system in my case. So in the end it was the motherboard, not the cameras nor the DVR card. The same motherboard works fine now otherwise, for a home PC. Plug the camera into a TV and see if it still gives the effect, this will rule out whether it is the camera.
  12. Are you saying without quad-core you can't get 480fps record out of the 1480? Or is it just with the new codec? Which is how I was reading it. without quad core, or should say with normal CPUs like P4 or PD, the 1480 is specified at 480fps in 320x240 only, or 120fps in 640x480 (maybe 240fps, cant confirm this). Depending on the CPU you may get as high as 240fps with the 2.8 Core 2 Duo now also, there is no confirmation on this though that I know of. Also yes, they claim 480fps in 640x480 and the Quad Core, using H.264. I havent tested their claims myself though. I just know its not 480fps in 640x480 on the systems ive built. BTW I should mention this is in regards to the recorded video only.

    Wireless? or Conduit?

Well really you could mount anything on them and probably get away with it .. at least in nassau .. they are slack around here .. where you live it might be different though. If you cant mount on them, you could look at optional poles, i had a job here where we mounted square hollow poles around the yard (not wooden, i think they were iron or maybe even thick aluminum as they have never rusted, dont think they were steel), painted them black, but they werent cheap. We brought them in from the US because all they had here were the round poles. They cost around $150 each plus shipping and customs, then to mount them in the ground and paint them.
  14. Plenty of LCDs with BNCs on them now, they just have Composite to VGA converters built in, so quality will be about the same as using a separate converter. Also, i connected a non PC DVR to a 37" Olyvia LCD TV before and quality was good using the RCA input. LCD TVs seem to be much better for those DVRs as opposed to PC LCDs. Also used Samsung 15" LCD TVs and those were also decent quality.
  15. If you use the DSP feature (you can still just connect it to a TV without turning on that feature) then overlay is disabled. Without overlay it is pixelised, though in smaller view, such as 16 way, it will seem clear, but when blown up larger it will be badly pixelised. Ultimate recording speed will depend on the CPU, Geo claim 480TVL in 640x480 with a Quad Core CPU now. http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/6_0_news.asp?stable=News&sfiled=nid&stable1=News&sfiled1=newid&pno1=1&title=News&gname=News&pno=295
  16. Id only use the 1120 if you need real time live display, or if you need the DSP output. From what I have seen, the 800 is better quality live video, and you can also use 720x480 where the combo cards produce black borders when using that resolution (known bug by Geo).

    What's wrong with this picture?

Please guys .. no personal attacks .. lets keep it "clean" .. Different situations and requirements exist in different parts of the globe .. I'd bet money on it if either of you guys came down here you would have a stroke seeing the way some of the installs have been done around here (not mine!) .. Thanks!

How does bright light hurt a CCD?

I live in the Bahamas, we have lots of strong sun, I only had one camera lens go bad after 5 years from possible damage from looking in the direction of the Sunset everyday .. camera still worked and lens replaced. I wouldnt worry, just dont point it up at the sky. However one thing to note, on cheap generic Cameras it more likely for the CCD to go quicker than a higher quality CCD, those $50 bullet cameras seem to get a horrible image after a year, but they still work.

    Auto-iris lens

Change the lens, AI lenses are very inexpensive these days. I had the Iris (so it seemed) go on a lens before, camera had been up for 5 years, just went bad, camera was still good, $40 lens fixed the problem.

How does bright light hurt a CCD?

What Issac said, dont point it up at the sun .. you dont need to record whats going on the sky normally

    Wireless? or Conduit?

Hi Jay .. check into avermedia for a replacement for the DVR .. they have some budget MPEG4 units with LAN. Cant say how the Network software is just yet as I havent used it, but my colleague here is bringing some in to test. If they want something higher end, check out GE, Bosch, Panasonic, etc. As for the cameras ... if it is BEC Poles, stay away from them, they may come by and tief the camera as its on their pole ... if you want wireless CCTV gear, check out VideoComm, i worked on a job where they had these mounted on Electric Poles, and they were far enough away from the high voltage to work good. If you need help setting them up let me know, though its fairly easy. Wireless is expensive though, I would trench first, unless there is no other option.
