i always just use a weatherproof gang box ... unless it can fit back inside the attic/building. And if it rains alot there use some caulking to seal the cracks.

Suggestions for new configuration in our surveillance room
rory replied to MetalguitarJames's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Okay so basically just recording on the PC DVRs. Once you have some inhouse IT tech/s, should be okay then for the PC maintenance part. Yeah I was going to ask about the quality from the composite to the VGA. So the converter is basically a Composite to VGA converter right? I havent really used them myself so I cant say, but I just asked someone that has and he said there is no delay with the ones he has used. Maybe it is just the converter being used? -

Hi James, Looks interesting. I take it you are just using the PC DVR for recording, not actually operating that, but operating the Matrix System right? -

Own a Geovision card? Do yourself a favor, check out Livevue
rory replied to RichTJ99's topic in Geovision
Work on the new software was put off due to illness and a death in the family, now it has commenced again. Motion detection is being left out for now until i receive the latest SDK from geo. Meanwhile I am pushing forward with all the other updated code and new features. Will post back here when there is something new to note. Also, I will release an activeX wrapper which can be used in other software, as well as browser based apps. It will contain all the commands to create your own application without writing any of the detailed code. Thanks Rory -
Another Wintel conspiracy? Incompatable with Via chipsets.
rory replied to videobruce's topic in Geovision
i should have mentioned the vias with the S3 video onboard are the bottom line ones .. the rest are good PS. i dont like monopolies either .. too many of them in this country. -

Looks perty .. what type of cable is that? (just curious) What the others said, it will or should shake a little with that mounting location, but not enough to make it stay out of whack, ive worked on some mounted on those before. Make sure the lens is tightned on good so that when it shakes its not shaking it out of focus .. if thats even possible

Does Geovision have the market on CCTV capture cards?
rory replied to videobruce's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
use the GV250 .. works with Via Also, GeoVision is definitely not the only cards that dont work well with Via. The others Ive seen and used are the same. -

rory replied to videobruce's topic in Geovision
one thing i did notice that the recent Via chipset all in one boards I used have really crappy S3 graphics. .. they definitely wont work for a DVR .. Yes the GV250 works on Via, used one recently. Also GV800 works with SIS. -
Hi Resolution IP Cameras
rory replied to dennisdil's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Yeah I realize the newer CMOS is very good, well the more expensive models, read the comparisons between them and CCD, but still CCD is "supposed" to be better for low light apps, according to the info I read. For example, the new GE line have both a CMOS (Pixem) and CCD WDR camera version, one for each type of app, eg. Cmos for Front Door WDR app, CCD For Day/Night WDR app. The cameras are actually sitting at customs waiting to be cleared right now. -
Wireless Video Solutions Leaders
rory replied to nachzeher's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Yeah but you are talking about Wireless Networking, while the topic is Wireless Video Solutions, such as Trango, VideoComm, etc. Non networked video, Real Time Motion video without any bandwidth issues. -
thing is, UDPtech has 32 channel cards .. and the GV8.xx ini file has support for 32 cameras ... but nothing in the works it seems.

http://www.fmsystems-inc.com/prod_detail.cfm?pid=228 http://www.difinitron.com/vm417.html http://www.cernium.com/checkVideo.asp These are products for testing video signals, and also focusing. Here is one that is neat, though doesnt seem to have the focus feature: http://www.goodome.com/beta/english/e_product_view.php?ptype=4&no=85 Has anyone here used them, any comments, reviews, and also, anyone know of any others that are out there besides these 3? These are links to Manufacturer's sites, if you have a link to a product please post the manufacturer's site .. thanks Rory

If its just a color only camera, it should have a "fixed" IR Cut Filter by default. If they left that out, it was poor design on their part. All color cameras Ive used have fixed IR cut Filters, even the $50 color bullet camera. Note, this is color only, not Color/IR cameras, and not Exview Color cameras. BTW, the yellow color is not related to the IR, so perhaps its something else. IR issues would be washed out colors mostly the green shrubery, wont be yellow though. Did you look at it on a Color TV or CCTV Monitor yet?

the one I saw here, is still a manual varifocal zoom, just that it auto focuses. The other stuff are just add ons.

768H x 494V; How can the TVL spec vary so much?
rory replied to videobruce's topic in Security Cameras
Most high res BW cameras are 570-600TVL ... or at least capable of that. Day/Night is the same, just once they add the chroma to the image it decreases in quality. These are typically Sony CCD Chips. From what ive seen Pixem is typically Cmos with less low light sensitivity.
