  1. Hi, doesnt seem right, those specs are way more than what the GV800 requires. Even with the onboard video, I just set up 2 DVRs using onboard GMA950 video, same amount of DDR2 ram, and they worked fine. Id have to pin it down to either the drivers for the onboard video, or the hard drive. Did you install the latest Intel Drivers from their website ..? If you installed the Intel Accelerator app, get rid of that also. You need the latest Intel Chipset drivers for that, and the latest Graphics Drivers. Dont rely on MSI for the up to date drivers .. Download from here. (XP Pro). Uninstall the old ones first if you installed them from the CD. Here is the Chipset Update .. install this first http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=2115&DwnldID=12150&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Professional&lang=eng Here is the Video Driver http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=2115&DwnldID=12002&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Professional&lang=eng Also, is this XP Pro.. . or another? The above are for XP Pro (others also I believe). If you install the latest drivers, and still have an issue, check the Bios and see what version it has, it may need a flash with a newer Bios. Here is the latest Bios .. 5.1 http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=756&kind=1 I had to update mine on the last 2 motherboards, though it was a PCI Express card issue .. but even though it didnt have anything related to that in the latest Update, there was a fix. I didnt update until they told me to do so .. it was an MSI and a Gigabyte Motherboard .. so not just MSI. With MSI though you'll need to flash it from DOS .. read the instructions though as it differs from one Bios to the next. BAsically your's is an AMI Bios, and they basically say dont flash it from a floppy .. extract the Bios files to a folder on the C Drive, then boot into Dos with a bootable device, then switch to that folder and run the flash file. Anyway .. maybe im going to far ahead right now .. Though it may have something to do with the Core 2 Cpu also .. Rory

    system advice please

Hi, no special software is typically required, at least not at a cost. Once you have Internet, you can set up a DDNS name somewhere like No-IP.com or DynDns.com for free, and set that up in your Router so you can connect from a remote location using the DVRs provided Client software. So basically once there is internet at the location, there should not be any additional costs. Also a router is suggested, at least for a non PC DVR. On the DVR side, Id stay clear of that DVR .. if you want to go low end, at least do it with a reputable CCTV DVR company, such as Avermedia or AvTech ... they have some budget DVRs.

Anyone use IR bullet cams with 2.8mm lens??

just let him know the quality is less the wider it gets .. in other words dont expect much of any object identification. PS. Happy new year ! LOL ..
  5. Well the main benefit is to power everything from the same power socket, to prevent Ground Loops and other issues. But also saves on the cost of additional UPS or Voltage Regulators .. Voltage Regulators protect the equipment from spikes and brownouts, etc .. down here we dont warranty any product without some form of Voltage Regulation .. most new UPS's have AVR built in also.

    PC freezes with second camera

http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=793 If going by the specs in the link above, its a pretty old motherboard, etc .. AGP4X instead of AGP8X also .. cant say if that would make a huge issue though, especially only with 2 cameras. First thing I would do would be to load XP on there, even just SP1. Though still seems wierd since it works fine with 1 camera. Try the second camera by itself, in place of the original camera, and see what happens. Also, are they both the same cameras, voltage, etc?
  7. I wouldnt waste money on just Coax now though, I would get Siamese one time, shouldnt be that much more, but worth it. Also on the RG6 cable, I used that in the beginning also, didnt know any better, and was all we could get down here. Most have been okay, but im going to be re running some of the old cable finally, and Im sure some of the cameras will be even better. Occasional Interference is the biggest issue Ive had with them.

Geo vs DVR's on live view

Well if using the DSP card, Im not sure if the new DSP feature in the version 8 software works with that or not, like if it just works with the Combo card's DSP feature. So going by the old method, you would only have a fixed view if using the Setup method. Eg. Set the cameras fixed to a 4 way or 9 way etc. I havent used the DSP card since version 8 came out, so cant say. The DSP part of the combo card works where if you dont set it up, it will just mimick the GUI's video layout, so you could change that and it would change on the DSP also. With version 8 software it lets you change the views as well as set sequencing. Shouldnt be an issue. It is a cheap part so you could try it. I would just try to pick one of those up at a local store though.

Geo vs DVR's on live view

had to remove the link, due to the rules .. But basically the price is normal for that .. it never was a cheap product .. the combo card comes out as a cheaper method that using the seperate DVR card and DSP card .. But you can get it cheaper than that actually from one of our advertisers.

Geo vs DVR's on live view

you can still buy them, but Geo doesnt list them anymore. Check a retailer for them .. its called the Real time DSP card.

Geo vs DVR's on live view

Multiplexed Composite output .. No the 800 doesnt have it, you could add a DSP add on Card. The Combo cards also have them built in.

    Film on CCTV in Britain

Yeah I realise it has changed, everywhere has . but when compared to other locations .. I know quite a few brits that live here and it shocks them still .. week before last I had to give video to the cops for 2 seperate murders that occurred in the same week.. both where the people had been burned to death inside a vehicle, one a teenager. Course the video was from a local Gas Station .. If i didnt get bored so quick, Id move to the outislands where there is no crime .. city's are always the worst .. Mind you, when I came back here after living in NY for 3 years, the crime here shocked me. But then I didnt live in the Ghettos in NY Guns are illegal here too (British Law - its gotta change).. but the cops just picked up a few hundred illegal guns in raids the other day. Having Video is still better than having no video .. without video criminals would go free (well depends on the setup ofcourse) .. now what happens to them as far as Jail etc .. thats not the Camera's fault .. I know alot more crimes would be solved here if we had public cameras ..

    Film on CCTV in Britain

Yeah but generally .. you guys dont have Iron bars on your windows for fear of being raped and stabbed/cut/beaten to death ... kids typically arent stabbing each other every day .. and teens arent typically getting gunned down in broad daylight ... I cant go outside my appt at night anymore its that bad .. well I only do when Ive had a few drinks

    Film on CCTV in Britain

Well actually if those that think CCTV does not help, would leave their home town for a bit and goto another place where it doesnt exist, they will quickly see how useful it actually is .. In other words check the amount of Violent Crime in the UK compared to the US, and well right here where i live. Brits come here and its a whole different world to them ... Ive lived in the UK and the US also and crime is like nothing in the UK, compared to elsewhere ..

    Earthing.....

LOL .. yeah man, but here its hot and dry .. actually its very warm for this time of the year .. ive been running the AC all day .. I hope we get some kind of winter this year .. so far there were a couple days in November or something like that, when it went down to 60 .. but that was it .. basically its like 80 now.

daft question but ok here goes

they will aways get watermarks, just like any other material. Cameras with built in Infrared will require more frequent cleaning also, due to this, and that with the watermarks on the glass it will cause issues at night.

    Power failure-DVR'S

Find the model of the Motherboard and post it here if you cant find it online, or run Everest Home Edition and that will tell you the Motherboard Model Number. Rory
  19. check will be wait for to be cash LOL .. they dont sound english also .. Also you might want to sell the cameras seperate from the Axis, to get them sold quicker .. BTW those Domes are actually decent, I used them at a Gated Community here before on the security gate entrance .. they are pretty low light also, not exview but lower lux than most color only cameras, and also a nice quality image. So far they've lasted a couple years, direct rain exposure as well.

    Power failure-DVR'S

Yep 5 years may not have it, though mine is 3 years refurbed, meaning its probably 4-5 years also you can check to see if there is a Bios update, as that may have it.
  21. I dont install cameras 15' or higher .. on that rare occurance then they wont be able to see the view, unless they are willing to go that high. Most clients just want to get an idea of the view, as there is no way to show them the ultimate view until the camera is actually installed.

    Power failure-DVR'S

How old are your computers Mine is 3 years or so old refurbed mobo and it has that option .. Power Options .. in the bios ... they differ from one to the next.

    Power failure-DVR'S

ALL DVRs will come back on after power outage, if they dont, they are worthless. If it is a PC and it has no setting for that in the BIOS, it should not be used as a DVR. I havent seen any motherboards yet that dont have that setting.

    Camera Misting

LOL .. with bullets its quiet simple .. where the cable goes in the rear of the camera, if it is not airtight, when (and not until) it rains, water seeps in and causes condensation.
