That .. and also the cost of the Chips used .. that may even be a Cmos Chip instead of a CCD . .. but even if it is a Sony CCD, there are so many variations, from low cost to high .. and the quality and features get better as you pay more. Basically, budget cameras do not react well to bright light.

remote viewing problem on some computers
rory replied to intelli-home's topic in Computers/Networking
works for me .. though doesnt look like direct draw overlay is enabled. -
the only thing you may have an issue with is Power. It's generally suggested not to run the power in the same cable, if it is a very long run (lowered current), or if it is 24VAC. In that case, power at the cameras themselves (or in the area) and if you get a ground loop, then add a ground Loop isolator. Also, the distances that baluns claim are usually at their max and video quality could be extremly low or have other issues. Watch the distance, and if at all possible, always run RG59 where possible. Rory

To Virus scan Or Not to Virus scan
rory replied to Rebco's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
If you must use an Antivirus, then yes AVG is lightweight .. but make sure to check the box for each component in their properties, which says ignore faulty component, and disable updates, unless you are going to leave the IP protocols open in TCP/IP Filtering (not suggested) then you would set the updates to fully automatic. Or keep all the non essential ports closed and updates off, then charge the client to logon with Ultra VNC every couple weeks to update the AVG manually using a file. -
To Virus scan Or Not to Virus scan
rory replied to Rebco's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Once Windows is set up properly (Secured), there is no need for an Anti Virus. If the user has access to the internet from it, then thats another story, but if its a DVR, they should not have access to the Internet at all, as well as no access to the OS in general. Only an admin should be able to login to acess the OS when required, and still not have access to the internet. You can still open the neccassary ports for the DVR while blocking everything else. Anyway, its personal preference, but not required. Even the network versions, are just something else to slow it down, especially Nortons, as something must still be installed on the DVR. And still, things like Nortons sill dont catch all the Trojans, which are more common than Viruses these days. Basically, prevention is better than the cure. -

once its set up properly, dont install one. Nothing should be on there besides the DVR software. -

Echo Info http://www.iss.net/security_center/advice/Exploits/Ports/7/default.htm Discard (9) http://www.iss.net/security_center/advice/Exploits/Ports/9/default.htm Chargen http://www.iss.net/security_center/advice/Exploits/Ports/groups/Simple_Services/default.htm so yeah im still lost there .. they say you should be able to enter text in there . but then reading the above links .. I cant see why they dont have a Virtual Server section at least ..
-
Got me .. everything after Chargen are those set ports ... maybe try Echo and see if it lets you enter anything .. or try another non normal port one until it lets you enter a port .. also make sure you have the latest firmware .. Rory

whats the other options in that drop down ..? ps. I deleted your IP from the post as im sure you dont want that out on the web .. Do you want to PM me the login details and I try it from here? Rory

make sure the local address is the Linksys Router's IP and not the DVR's IP. I think you have the DVR's IP there as the local address? Its gotta go through the DSL router, to the Linksys Router, then finally to the DVR.
-
See example below using a range .. the TCP port as well as the webcam ports .. you can do each one individually though if you have the time, and each port would go in the "Local Port" box .. each would need its own entry. I dont know whats in those drop downs so you will have to look at that, though the web site didnt mention changing those except the Protocol one.

the 5564 looks similar to your screen shot http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Zoom/5654/default.htm seems it is Nat for that version .. will take a closer look.
-
here is the port forwarding guide for that Zoom DSL router .. http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Zoom/5554ADSL/default.htm I havent had a chance to look through it yet .. but quick glance you want to set up a Virtual Server, not NAT .. they use Virtual Server for port forwarding in other routers also. Linksys just has a different name .. Applications & Games ..
-
ok now you can see it locally ... You need to get into the DSL router, and do the same port forwarding in that as you did in the Linksys Router .. but this time .. forward everything to the Linksys Router's IP .. 192.168.1.1 (?)
-
Basically what you need to do is Port forward the DSL router to the Linksys Router (all Geo ports), then port forward the Linksys Router to the DVR (all Geo ports) .. Forget the DSL router for the moment though. Unplug that and just use the local network. Block Anonymous Internet Requests can remain checked BTW. All you need to do is Forward the Ports in Applications and Gaming. Also, the servers in Geo have to be running to connect to them (just in case you missed that part) Is there any other software installed on the DVR besides Geo? Eg. Nortons? You should be able to plug in another PC to the Linksys router and do a telnet (command prompt) to the DVR's IP and Geo Ports, and it should connect (clear screen). Ping it if you just want to see if the network is setup right. BTW, for webcam (browser), port forward 80 (unless you changed it), 4550, 5550, and 6550. 3550 is only needed it you will use the Multiviewer (TCP Server). None of the other ports are required for Live Webcam. Rory

Are audio drivers installed, and is the audio enabled in the Camera/Audio Enable Settings? Did you uncheck both boxes for the audio setup?
-
some do get hot, but if its too hot to touch, make sure the power supply being used is correct, and if everything else checks out and still does it, send it back for a replacement. If it still does it when you get the replacement, then its just a crappy camera ..
-
Man, all this time i was using Geo i never actually tried the backup .. but did today and yep it makes a self executable just like View Log so you can playback the cameras just like you are there . .. course for 4 cameras for 2 hours it was 5GB but was worth it .. and the cops had a 6GB USB Drive so it worked out good.

Anyone using the External Sata Enclosures? I saw a nice one from Vantec. .. not that expensive also.

Insurance requirment for off-site video recording?
rory replied to VST_Man's topic in General Digital Discussion
i would sell ofsite recording more for the fire aspect .. such as arsen .. yes they can disable the main power box and paint the cameras, but if they were that type of criminal they'd probably just use a rocket launcher to blow the place up, instead of the physical work of gasoline and matches ..
