New to Forum and need camera advice

A True Day/Night camera, has a Mechanical IR Cut filter. It will typically be more sensitive uner low light and IR, and produce more realistic colors. Lots of info on that in the day/night links sticky.

Hi Color/IR ameras will always be "cheap". You could get away with them indoors though. Domes with built in IR dont cut it, all that I've tested, or seen other images of, have been horrible images. If its outdoors and you dont have a budget for the pro cameras and IR, best bet would be a True day/night IR bulllet.

    760nm filter for IR??

thats a no name IR btw .. and a proper LPR camera would cost over $2000 retail. using a fixed lens, would stop any focus shift, not the IR filter. if anything the IR filter would cut out extra light/glare. here are some REG-L shots http://www.bahamassecurity.com/ExtremeREG/

    home system - need advice

there is a huge diff between those cameras .. one is a pro box WDR day night .. also any IR would be seperate of the camera. price is different also..that plus a 5-50mm lens and housing, is much more, not to mention the cost to add IR. the image quality overall is going to be much better though. downside is the bulky housing.

    760nm filter for IR??

what type of IR illuminator and which camera? but no, an 750nm filter, or an 840nm filter, will not cut out all light. BTW, most of us here, that are in the biz, would just buy a ready made LPR camera..

building on what colin said, IR cameras also require more frequent cleaning.

Yes the Panasonic is good, there is also the GE KTC-2000DN which is a very good Exview DN. If there may be glare issues definately the Panasonic one as it is Wide Dynamic. If its ultra low light you want without IR then the GE would be a better choice. BUT, Panasonic also have the CL-924 which is a 1/2" camera which is very low light, but well out of your budget mentioned. Either way if there is not enough light you will still need to add lighting, or Infrared, and that can get costly, as well as bulky. Remember you will also need a housing, and if under the eave, decide if it will be wall mounted, as most typical housings are designed for, or ceiling mounted, harder to find. Basically you may want to look at the mounting location first, then decide what camera you can get that will fit there. For the $300-500 range with IR you are actually going to be stuck with an IR Day Night Bullet camera, even if you go with a Day Night Dome and add IR seperate, that will typically bring the cost up higher than if using a Box camera w/ housing and IR. Bottom line is IR will cost to be done right ...

    Playback CD on different computers

If the video was recorded in anything besides Mpeg4 ASP or H.264 (which neither I recommend for quality video anyway), then you can use the following also .. not updated in a while but will work on that soon. Either way it works. [link removed by rory, reason dead link]

    Geovision Centre V2 Pro

Goto System Configure .. Layout Tab. Check the box that says Floating Event List, make it Right, or Bottom. You can then also resize it or move it around. Unfortunately Doesnt have a way to minimize it using the settings, but I guess I can make a program that will do that .. let me check.

Password suddenly not working on remote

Is this in the browser or using a client software? If it is the browser check the security settings. Also if it is, see what version of IE it is, if it is IE 7.0 maybe that has an issue.

Full D1 recording speed of GV-800?

Its not 30fps as far as I can tell, as Ive used it with 4 cameras in 720x480 and it "looked" real time, which can be anything from 15fps+ per camera, so by that I would think it does at least 60fps. I also used it recently with 16 cameras and it was a decent speed, was not my job so didnt get any exact sizes, but id say it was definately faster than 30fps. We've also discussed this here recently, never really came up with any final conclusion. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=6842

    BNC Connectors

Also trim enough of the braid so that none is showing once you have the connector twisted on, but leave enough on that it will get good contact with the inside of the connector. You simply wrap the braid around so it is tight and not bulky, and not touching the center conductor, then screw on the connector until it is on tight. Also you should be able to pull hard on the connector without it coming off, once done properly. Basically the braid must touch the first inner part of the connector, but not the center conductor (or there will be no video), and the center conductor must go into the further hole inside the connector.

Put up a sign that says "No Public Urinating", something like that. Without an actual confrontation he will know you know and hopefully not do it again, in your yard at least.
  25. I just tested this option (UseSoftWatchDog=) in 7.0 and 8.0 Geo software. This option is available in both versions in C:\WINDOWS\GeoHealth.ini file and set to =1 by default. It works the same for both versions. If you change this option to =0 when GV system is running, then GV system will still reboot and when starting up again, it will change this option back to =1. The same if you change it when GV system is not running: it will change this option back to =1 when starting up. I tried to put Read-Only attribute to this file, then GV system didn't change this option back to default =1. Still, system rebooted. Funny Then, I tried renaming this file: C:\GV800\DMHealthSvr.exe to some other name (e.g. DMHealthSvr.bak). GV system rebooted as usual, but didn't startup again automatically... No solution till now. Sent a question to Geo support. Any other ideas? Same here, doesnt work with 8.0. Didnt test with 7.0.
