i set up a DVR tonight with a Hanz 19" LCD with DVI .. not bad .. but its a Geo .. pC based ... I found the LCD TV's to be better for composite than those CCTV LCDs though ... but i havent used all of them .. just saw a couple of them in service.

thats essentially what Geo does, except Geo also takes care of the currently recording video, databases, etc, and closes down Geo properly .. while shutdown when Geo is running will cause check disk to come up, normally due to corupt Geo files. . I would use the Geo's Auto Reboot .. Its never hung for me .. take care of other Windows Issues though as they are even more important than rebooting windows. Dont ever use the Default windows XP install .. its one of the worst ones MS ever made yet (when not tweaked properly) .. seems Vista is next in that league though
-
also try reinstalling Geo ... if images used by Geo are corupt or deleted for example .. mainly the Skins .. then the Geo Software at least will crash and restart over and over .. or if the DVR card is loose .. it will also cause major issues.

well im using an MSI MATX for this 1120 .. was all I can get down here right now .. with a 64MB DDR2 NVidea .. any tips on the NVidea . settings .. etc .. it says it is 256 MB but i imagine thats cause its running at 4x .. so 4x64MB ...? thanks Rory

yeah their support does suck .. ive learnt my lesson what mobo is recommended ... how are Abit & MSI?

Ok got it soughted out, an extra $260 later .. The Asus Radeon PCI Express EAX300 128MB DDR Video Card, does not work with the GigaByte GA-8I945GZME-RH Motherboard. Installed an NVidea PCI Express 64MB DDR Video card and it worked straight away. Will that work with the GV-1120 .. thats another issue. Meanwhile, inbetween troubleshooting I also purchased an MSI equivalent of the GigaByte Mobo, and so will try the Asus Radeon Card in that tonight also. If that works, will use that for the general PC DVRs .. up to the GV1120 .. as I can get them here locally for $135.

if its from Hong Kong, its more than likely a clone. Also, is that a 4 channel or 16 channel, 16 channel Retail Kodicom would cost much more than that, like triple or more .. plus they dont sell cards to non distributors/builders. -
yep .. i may as well sell them a 32" LCD
-
yep .. hmmm enough that I wont buy one of them ..

goto the Camera Enable Disable Menu item, set up the Screen Division and make it 4 way (quad) ... also disable all other cameras that are not connected first.
-
they have a Composite to VGA converter built in .. other than that, they may use more expensive components for power etc.
-
Its good to reboot windows every so often, to clear up memory leaks and such .. whether it needs it as often, I still set them to every 7 days reboot generally. Even most embedded systems could use a reboot every now and then ..
-
you can set that in the Geo Software ...

Got one today ... anyone ever connected the audio card that comes with it? The 1120 card has 8 slots grouped in twos .. 4 audio slots, though it doesnt really say the top or the bottom one, i gathered the top slot, but then what is the lower slot for ..? Additional Audio Card? Also, have to press down on the card pretty hard for them to slot in, can hear the card bend a little bit as holding both ends of the card and slots are 1/4 way in to the center .. cant just hold the back as thats where the circuits are Guess if the audio works then its good.

sounds like a hardware problem .. if they have power outages that much and its not on a Voltage Regulator then chances are its fried .. a Generator sounds like it would be better for that location actually.

not a DVR .. but maybe someone has seen this before .. PC is a fairly new build, SATA HDD, AMD 1800+, etc .. less than a year old .. I didnt build it but client is having some issues as ofa couple days ago .. basically sometimes it boots to windows, sometimes it doesnt and requires a restart a couple times before it does .. it was a clean windows XP SP2 install a month ago .. used SATA Drivers and all worked great . .. no errors of any kind. Cleaned up windows completely and that is good ... dont know if it is a Mobo or HDD issue .. but dont get any HDD errors at all .. it almost looks like it goes to boot to windows but then doesnt .. like the screen flickers before it would show the XP logo .. but it just goes blank .. using CTL-ALT-DEL normally makes it boot right away .. or sometimes requires that a couple times. . Any ideas? Its an Asus K7 something mobo .. Thanks Rory

Hi, if you dont need Remote Video .. something basic like this might work: http://www.aver.com/dvr/eb1504mpeg4.html Budget DVR like the AvTech .. only it has a VGA out for that LCD .. Then maybe look at the Nuvico Bullets for cameras .. or even KT&C .. those are what can be found most everywhere on the web .. If you want more features then you would need a slighty more expensive DVR .. nuvico actually has a stand alone called hte J Series .. i havent used it yet but looks decent ... otherwise there are ofcourse many others, but if you want to stay within a budget then PC Based would be the next step .. quality from a PC system on the LCD would typically be better than from an Embedded non PC DVR ... For Day Night cameras, just remember that if it doesnt say it has a Mechanical IR Cut Filter, then it is not a Day Night, but a Color/ IR Camera .. and daytime images the color can be washed out. But the Day Nights cost more .. so depends on your needs and budget. If its just a color camera (No IR) then it automatically has an IR Cut Filter built in, so no need to worry about them, and if it is only a BW camera, then there is no need to check also. B/W only camera will always be more sensetive than a Day Night camera in B/W Mode, and both of them will always be more sensitive than a Color/IR .. Rory PS. Welcome to the forum ..

Can some one with IE and XP please test this link and let me know if it works on their PC, thanks. Its an active X (safe) for Kalatel DVRs, the previous one was not working on XP for some reason, it did at one time. Thanks. I just want to see if it loads okay now. http://www.bahamassecurity.com/ivuepro.htm Rory

LOL . .. that was 2 years ago

same thing here.. the combo's are all the same basically .. the manual doesnt say about that extra slot though .. we have the newer card http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/product/Product_Image/ComboCard_DTypeII.jpg anyway it does have arrows pointing to the top ones .. so I guess the extra one for each channel must be some add on or just not used ... im not even using the audip for this one but thought Id add it anyway . .. will test it out and let you know if each channel works ..
-
no, dont know what that was .. bad connections or cables or power probably.. plus those are OEM so monitors wont neccassarily even be high resolution. Could be a difference of a few hundred $$ also in price from a name brand.

I thought about malware so I did a thourough clean up .. only found some minimal adware .. but I think Ill tell him if it keeps doing it then Id need a day or 2 with it to see what the issue is .. thanks to all

-
Its on board, when you install windows it came up saying install Floppy for Sata .. as it didnt see the HDD ... after that it installed perfect .. it just started doing this now ...
