  1. The lens can certainly make a difference, but the camera first has to have the number of pixels. The specs will specify what the resolution is in color and what it is in BW .. True Day night cameras are typically higher res in BW mode, from 570 to 600TVL, but you also need to check the Picture Elements or Effective Pixels .. if it doesnt specify a higher resolution in BW mode, then it more than likely is not a True Day Night camera ... see the Sticky under Security Cameras for links to Day Night related threads. Basically no you dont get a higher resolution just by going black and white, as it depends on the camera itself.

How to connect TCP/IP source to Geo?

I would have thought the wireless interference with the network wireless would effect the video also? Acti has IP Decoders also ..
  7. The brand names will be expensive, they are generally the better ones. How many channels are you looking for?

    WDR v/s normal camera

For some of your question, see these threads, http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=5523 http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=6031 As to the masking feature, that is normally done in the DVR software. As for S Korea or Taiwan, it would be S Korea, but generally they sell only to Distributors for OEM and require large purchases and monthly quotas.

    WDR v/s normal camera

Depends on the WDR technology used, which camera is it? Simply, the WDR generally handles lighting sources better, such as glare from car lights, or backlighting issues typically found in normal cameras. This does not mean they see better under low lighting though, that depends on the camera's CCD chip. Quality of the image is not effected by the WDR, that is camera independant, look for the Picture Elements / Pixels, dont go by the TVL.
  15. Craig, with most of the DVRs that use their own formats, the wayI have worked around that is to use a screen Capture program like CamStudio, to then record the screen as you are playing it back on the PC. Ofcourse this is lower quality, but at least you get a normal file format from it. Other option is to use a Capture Card to a PC like mentioned already, even record that with the Free AmCap if you want the ultimate quality (no compression!) but the files get huge. Ultimately you could then convert the Raw AVI to another format like WMV (you can even use Windows Movie Maker for this) or just use other compressions when capturing it, or the software that comes with the capture card.

Ok, New camera Mounted.....need opinions please.

its an expensive thingy ... Not sure about the Protocols and Bosch, but GE gives them, Sanyo might also, they both have zoom cameras. PS. Best focusing is done under low light and before you install the camera, definately not over the network, nor using an LCD.
  17. Hi Isaac, is this the system you're using the Pano IP Cams for .. just wondering .. do they accept composite video or are they strictly and IP camera system? Also, do they have any other demos besides the WMV file on their site, maybe a hidden one somewhere you can point my way I saw them a year or so ago when i was researching these technologies, lots of stuff from Israel also ... this seemed to be the US one that I saw around the web, though im sure the software is even more advanced now. Also, GeoVision seems to have some of these features installed now, a couple of them for a few years in older versions .. but they arent as advanced as this as for searching at least. Would be nice to get our hands on a demo, like a kit with a single camera .. for testing purposes .. any ideas? Also what made you choose them over the other guys, and do you still install DVRs? Lastly ... are they expensive ... I take it from the PDF they are an all in one system ..? (maybe an example retail comparison to say a GE or Pano Stand Alone DVR) If its as good as they claim .. its definately worth looking at .. are there distributors or do you buy direct? As to trends. .. i think its still all about paying the least amount of money for the best product out there .. I dont think even the cheap budget DVRs will be going anywhere soon, there are just so many DIY's out there to keep that market going for many years to come .. and then the well known PC DVR companies are coming out with New features and new technology every few months now, such as GeoVision .. and im sure other ones (they make enough they certainly should be). Eventually they will have to tap the IP camera market (as they are now actually with Avermedia's Hybrid DVRs and Geo's IP Servers) to capture an even larger audience. thanks rory
