  1. You could use an Active TX ( single channel) at the camera, and then a Passive RX (multi channel if going to add more or just single channel) at the DVR side .. or vice versa. Passive to Passive will have video quality loss at that distance, which is why Id suggest Active on one end.

GV 250 quad display no live video help

On the download list for 8.01 is the Geo Main System ... Also, yes best to uninstall first then install 8.01 .. but also best to download and run their 8.0 Validation program first.

GV 250 quad display no live video help

Hi ... first give us a run down on the PC specs .. including memory, CPU, Motherboard type and chipset, and Video card make and model .. Also which PCI slot the card is installed in. Any other hardware such as PCI cards etc .. anything else running on the PC. etc For 8.0 you'd first want to get 7.0 working ... once it is working then id suggest downloading the tool which lets you check that the card is compatible .. then once it is .. you can use 8.0 's main system download .. Version 8.01 would be the full version, 8.02 is just an update to 8.01. Rory

just checked, webcam server FTPs images ..

The thing is, even with the brand, it depends on the model ... some of their cheaper models wont have much inside ... i can only imagine though as never bought the cheaper models from the name brands i mentioned .. DVRs .. yep the GE's are like that, well the DVMRe-CT anyway .. lots of space .. though most of the extra space is for the models with extra HDDs i guess ..

With most cameras though, you get what you pay for, at least with Sanyo and GE ones ive used, they were packed with components .. same goes with Dome cameras ... like whether they have seperate power boards etc .. cheaper ones normally have them all in one board ... As for baluns .. just worked on some today .. man i hate them with a passion .. and there are 2 diff brands ... not NVT ofcourse .. these are the little BNC baluns .. they are just not secure peices of hardware .. very flimsy .. coax is much stronger, can even hang from the coax with BNCs .. cant do that with Baluns and Cat5 .. also difficult to put on the Standalone DVR when you have 16 cameras .. image quality sucks even at only 150' .. at least i like it to be better .. im talking the client into some NVT gear .. probably have to be passive for now, but at least it will be easier to work with and easier for maintenance. 1 Multi channel RX and 1 Multichannel TX/TRX ... and replace the cat5 from the cameras with coax to the TX/TRX.

Why do the cards look different?

the first image is what they look like .. the others might be older cards as examples only ... should note also the card manufacturer has 32 channel cards and also HW compression cards ... may see these soon from Geo .. Geo 8.0 has the settings ready for 32 channel in the INI file .. so looks like it may happen .. Also, they have a 4 channel Combo card .. dont know why Geo doesnt sell those ... BTW while we are on Combo cards .. here are the manufacturer specs. 16CH Real-Time Display + 400/480FPS Raw Data Capture Video Input : 16CH (PAL/NTSC) Audio Input : 16CH Display Frame Rate : 400/480FPS Capture Frame Rate - 480 FPS @ CIF - 240 FPS @ 2CIF - 120 FPS @ D1 - Single card solution for video capture & real-time display Resolution Max. 720 * 576 (PAL) / 720 * 480 (NTSC) Digital In/Out - Max. 16CH/16CH with Extension card - Windows 2000/XP or higher 16CH Real-Time Display + 200/240FPS Raw Data Capture Video Input : 16CH (PAL/NTSC) Audio Input : 16CH Display Frame Rate : 400/480FPS Capture Frame Rate - 240 FPS @ CIF - 120 FPS @ 2CIF - 120 FPS @ D1 - Single card solution for video capture & real-time display Resolution Max. 720 * 576 (PAL) / 720 * 480 (NTSC) Digital In/Out - Max. 16CH/16CH with Extension card - Windows 2000/XP or higher 16CH Real-Time Display + 100/120FPS Raw Data Capture Video Input : 16CH (PAL/NTSC) Audio Input : 4CH Display Frame Rate : 400/480FPS Capture Frame Rate - 120 FPS @ CIF - 60 FPS @ 2CIF - 30 FPS @ D1 - Single card solution for video capture & real-time display Resolution Max. 720 * 576 (PAL) / 720 * 480 (NTSC) Digital In/Out - Max. 16CH/16CH with Extension card - Windows 2000/XP or higher

passive is pushing it at 1000' ... some claim 2000+' but thats an "if you're lucky" scenerio and with clients it has to be 100% correct not maybe it will work .. active can do up to 1.5 miles (more linking multiple tranceivers) using NVT gear but depends on the hardware and cable used.

very cheap cameras, would stay clear of these ..

It's time to replace the camcorder

It should say the power requirements in the specs. .
  14. Lots of good info here ... Just to touch on a couple things ... $100 Vandal Domes are not worth even looking at .. if you go vandal domes you will need to spend some alot more $$ to get something decent .. otherwise just stick with bullet cameras ... they tend to blow dome cameras away in the budget pricing level. Also, resolution does still matter, but resolution of the camera matters as much as the setting in the DVR... most important thing to look for in resolution, or other than resolution, are the Picture Elements. Solar ... I lived in the UK and the sun didnt shine much .. i kinda feel maybe its the wrong place for solar ... but thats just me .. we got too much sun here .. i wish I could send you guys some ..

Why do the cards look different?

Dont worry about the images on their site ... theres the Combo cards, then there are the others .. either way, they all use the same software and have the same exact codecs and just about the same exact features ... the combo card is better for higher quality especially if you will use the DSP output to a CCTV Monitor.
  16. $80 ... yep sounds like its chinese (no offence to the chinese im riding a chinese motorcross bike now to save gas! its great )
  17. re; fishing an eave .. you can also use a snake ... sometimes it can be pushed right to the attic entrance .. cant push PVC pipes in the attics here, too much AC duct ...

    Problem with sun through windows

yeah i bought a couple of them .. they were useless outdoors in the sun we got here ...

    How can Geo compete?

Ant .. if you're using an LCD .. no it wont be as clear .. Also, what codec are you using? If its H264 or ASP (on Geo), then it wont be as clear either. But yeah the DSP output makes the live view much better, and also the evidence sharing blows away Non PC DVRs .. main reason i switched .. Basically its not just Geo .. same with others.

    Debunk license plate capture myth

then you have many more points to go bad as its on a network to start with .. unless you got an IT guy on staff 24/7 .. for security .. its just not there yet. Like i said I can velcro my $99 ditigal chinese camera on the wall and the image looks the same as what ive seen so far ... id like for the IP guys to actually start promoting their products and show us some day night images ... anything can perform in full light. If someone posts some specs and images then we would have something to compare. But what you find online mostly are websites with a PDF full of the same old .... saying NVRs are better than DVRs cause of a 300 camera job .. this and that .. i mean .. who gets a 300 camera job .. LOL. Im going to write an article debunking their myths that DVRs are obselete ..

    Debunk license plate capture myth

yep, same with my $99 digital camera ...
  22. Never heard of it ... sorry ..
  23. Like Ken said, once its the same format (NTSC, PAL, Secam, etc) it will work. Where it is made makes no difference. Except you should tell them stop being cheap and buy the quality system Actually there are a couple good ones from China, but doesnt sound like thats the ones he is going with ... actually just cause its from Taiwan doesnt mean its quality either ... though alot of their boards are made in South Korea. .. but the Geo is solid.

    Debunk license plate capture myth

i can see using Mega Pixel cameras along with CCTV but just dont see it replacing it. At least then its not a CCTV System, basically its a Digital Camera System. I like the look of the Motobix ones .. cant see ever using just them though .. but depends on the application I guess.. Question though, can vaguely make out the licence plate in the photos above, but what about night time, or when cars headlights are coming at the camera? I think thats when you need the Extreme Reg cams.. . actually they are doing IP surveys now so they might be getting into that also.
  25. wire cutters tied/taped to the end of the wire... then just chuck it in the direction you want .. at least that worked with telco wire
