Camera not sending video to DVR unit...HELP!!!
rory replied to Brandon@RobySolutions's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Get a 12VDC power supply from Radio Shack or elsewhere, power the camera at the camera location .. if you havent already .. see what happens... Also, did you try the LCD on the end of the cable coming from the camera ..? -
I havent tried it yet but i wonder if you had multiple video cards if you could select which one sees which cameras ...? Using the DMpos.exe file..

sounds cool man ... thanks.

Yes you can list the manufacturers web site, or if you are worried list it in the dealers section .. thanks

Max length of Coaxial cable connect to active TP converter
rory replied to simyf's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Ok well first make sure that RG6 is Copper and not aluminum .. in other words not Cable TV type.. 300 meters .. thats around 1000' .. RG59 can do more than that like 1200-1500' ... so you should be okay. Its when it goes to the DVR that they mention you should limit it to 750' ... but that "Active TP Transmitter" would have to be an Transceiver (RX & TX). Any particular brand you are using? And is that UTP? (Cat2, Cat3, Cat5 or Twisted Pair) -
really man ... pant .. pant

when it dies, have to send it back to asia and wait for another .. i doubt the local/national dealers/retailers are going to stock too many of them .. plus they arent cheap generally ..

One thing that PC based does have over Stand Alones is Higher Quality Evidence Sharing (even comparing to the best standalones in the world) and Faster Recording Speeds at Higher Quality (640x480 @ 30fps per camera). Ofcourse this is dependent on the Card and Software used. The PC based version you use will vary in features depending on the model purchased .. Another tip, you can tweak the Windows XP PC so you will never get a virus or malware, and the users cant do anything besides use the DVR software. I switched to PC based primarily due to the Higher Quality Recorded Video, Faster Speeds, and the top of the list -> Computers are Duty Free through Customs here while stand alones are taxed as video which is 30-45% dependent on the Customs Officer on duty (or how much kickback he gets!). Like someone else mentioned, you get garbage versions of PC Based and Standalones, but a good way to generalize is you get what you pay for; sometimes that can vary. Basically if you are confidently PC literate and can do some work with Computer hardware, that maybe the way you want to go, if not, stick to a standalone or you may get lost if it ever needs service. There are budget versions of each, mid versions, high end, etc .. see what your budget is first and what is available in your area, or wherever it is you are searching for one.

Anyone using DELL PCs for their DVR cards?
rory replied to MattVidionics's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
And make sure the card you are using doesnt require an Intel Chipset and that the cheaper ones have an Intel Chipset .. not just the CPU .. the actual motherboard Chipset. -
Or you can use 4 quads with a Geo Loop Card ...

Problems with Kodicom 8800 and Intel 945 & 915 chipset..
rory replied to martell's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Most DVR software will "take" over your PC, as it should, in fact it should do much more if required... there are not many that dont, only one ive found that allows minimizing is Geo Vision ... which is how im using that right now on my own PC. Either way, there is no "free" software for Kodicom ... that i have seen. You will need to verify the software and card you have with any of the companies that develop software for Kodicom cards, to make sure it is not pirated first, which in most cases it is unless you purchases from a legitimate Kodicom System Builder. Basically the software will only work with cards purchased from Kodicom Direct. Where did you purchase the card? Geo Vision is one route you could go if you want a server that will allow minimizing ... but then that would mean purchasing a new card, however their budget card GV250 will work and uses the same Full Geo software. -
Max length of Coaxial cable connect to active TP converter
rory replied to simyf's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
If you mean Active UTP it will depend on the brand of TX and RX .. with NVT .. also this uses UTP (cat3/5) cable not Coax. Cat3 with Amplified on one end, passive on one end = 3000' Cat3 with Amplified on both ends = 1 mile Cat5 with Amplified on one end, passive on one end = 1 mile Cat5 with amplified on both ends = 1.5 miles Rory -
NEW Australian Standard's for CCTV systems in Australia
rory replied to 470's topic in System Design
Well you guys are kind of lucky .. we have no standards / codes here at all for CCTV, in fact there are very few if any for anything else either ... -
Yeah its not that expensive ... which is why I dont think there is much to it .. besides all the questions you have to go through .. actually the card manu is even more ... they want a huge software development company or they wont talk to you ... Geo, I dont know, did receive the email back from them .. but once i saw the questions and the forms it just wasnt worth it ..

Hamachi networking software could be your best friend .
rory replied to Potlvr420's topic in Computers/Networking
So its like VPN? -
They have an SDK ... but you have to answer a bunch of questions first, fill out all kinds of forms .. etc .. its only a minimal SDK as far as i know .. since ofcourse they dont make the cards .. and the actual card manufacturer has an SDK .. which is even harder to get your hands on ..
