I think this is going to make a lot of you guys cringe
rory replied to tomk's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
This is your first issue .. pico2000 dvr card It uses the first generation of software from Nova out of Canada, basically its really old software. Well actually its a leaked out version of the software as far as I know, when they were developing it back then. Apparently the newer versions are better, though more expensive. Someone recently gave me one of these cards to test, i did, then i laughed, and then chucked it in the garbage ... For just a few more dollars you can get the GV250 Now onto the questions: 1. What type of cable should I use? If they are cheap bullet cameras then any all in one RCA Video Power cable will suffice. Otherwise, use RG59 Siamese Copper in and out. 2. Whats causing the snowy lines? Sounds like the Power Lines are too close .. 3. Why would my pictures jump? Power Lines again .. or bad cable connections, or DVR issue ... 4. Why is the refresh rate so slow with the new cable? Was it always this slow? Did it get slow after adding another camera? If so this is normal, the total fps beng 30fps ... divide that between 2 cameras, 15fps, but divide by 4 cameras, 7.5fps each. Have you tested the cameras on a CCTV Monitor? (or even a TV) Make sure you are getting a good signal from the cameras before you plug them into the "DVR" .. Rory -
yeah the mic just has 3 screw terminals, use 3 conductor (or just 2 pairs) telco wire .. one is ground for power and audio, other is power, and the other is audio ... you can make up your own RCA .. just cut up some RCA cables .. if you want to make it neat and its alot of mics ... join them in a panel with some terminal strips, or even some heat shrink tube .. otherwise i juz tape them Rory

use your mouse to highlite multiple events and then click save avi. 60 minute limit.

You dont need a base station, you can just tie it into an RCA cable ... power them off their own 12VDC supply also or use a power panel ..ive tied a few of them together in the past with the Kalatel DVRs which only had 1 audio input ... wit Geo though you can have multiple ones ...

Well .. first make sure you or someone else isnt just closing out without disconnecting first .. sometimes that can be an issue .. but that was mostly with the older versions from a few years ago .. I havent used the StoreSafe 2 so cant speak for that, but im sure its not that much different .. The port is already forwarded once you are able to connect once from outside .. but you can always do a telnet ... Command Prompt. (where 10.10.10.10 = the IP) Telnet 10.10.10.10 1024 Once you get clear screen then it is okay for that part .. Honestly sounds like an ISP or Modem issue .. I have a client here who has issues connecting to their DVR ... not GE but still .. i have no issues .. their connection drops on and off all the time when trying to connect or while they are connected ... typically it can be the Cable Modem, or just issues in their area with the Cable Node ... sometimes even as simple as wiring/connectors ... but from my experience down here its always been the Cable Modem like 99% of the time .. Is there any other PC connected lcoally to the network the DVR is on ? If so .. need to do some tests and make sure it can download larhe amounts of data .. just pick a really large file off the web somewhere ... but you also need to test upload .. though since it keeps dropping. .. all you really need to test is connectivity ... if you can download say a 300MB file no issues, around the same time then hardware is okay ... If not then need to look at other options like Switching the router ... cheaper than replacing the DVR ... which could also have a bad LAN .. Ive had bad routers a few times ... some didnt act up till a month or so later ... bad Cable modems more times than can I can count .. mostly lightning related .. (everything is overhead here).. and ofcourse the ISP itself has had many issues on and off ..just depends .. If you want .. PM me the Ip of the DVR etc .. and ill test it out from my PC as Im 100% certain I dont currently have any malware or viruses . Lastly if there is another PC there ... put a server program of any kind on there, port forward to that and then keep testing it with Telnet ...

im not finished Wouldnt stay in focus day and night ... even when focused in low light. Was pretty decent for zoomed in such as 25mm + but anything wider was not great .. (quality wise). Alan Key Sockets reamed out after one use ... so bracket was useless after that .. Basically its no EX82 .. but it is useful for apps where you want to zoom in telephoto like i said ... actually at 40mm or so it was great .. so it is shooting the IR out really far. .. Personally though im sticking with the EX82 ... or a pano box day night and then use extra IR if needed ... if they'd fix the focus shift and alan key socket issues .. would be a great all round camera.. Oh yeah, had to buy more than one camera to test them, so it wasnt just based on a single camera test. Luckily i wasnt the one paying for it .. though i never recommended they test it also ..

also check out this solution .. we using it for a Video Monitoring Station here http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/solution/GV-CV2_Intro.htm

is this a SIS or Intel Chipset? Also, is it on a UPs and Voltage Regulator?
-
What software are you using to connect to these? Has to be WaveReader 4.0 .. or are you trying this via Web Browser? If it keeps dropping its either the ISP, Cable Modem, or Router ...

id use a DVR in each location, lets you use any CCTV camera on the market .. there are many different types of CCTV cameras for different applications and budgets, each camera location is a seperate application. You can still access them over the network or internet .. and have crisp local recording as well .. Personally I dont consider IP cameras CCTV ...but thats me ..

the infrared was pretty good, i wasnt impressed with the bracket though.

Same across the boards. All networked video is compressed and therefore there is a lack in quality. -
PC DVR card with suitable remote viewing software
rory replied to ocular's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
The GV250 is basically a generic card, that works with the Geo Software. It will actually work with other Generic software if wanted, and even though Geo says otherwise, it works on Via Chipsets .. at least for me. But it is their budget card, and the frame rate is slower than the rest. Its good for the budget jobs though. Live video is affected though, so yes the live video would be the total fps / 4 .. recording can be much better though, as it will distribute the frames among the cameras picking up motion, when motion record is used and Smart record is checked. The GV600 i dont see much point to .. id just sell the GV250... the GV800 would be real time across the board . but its not cheap ... Video will degrade across the Lan, with any video ... as it needs extra compression .. ive heard (but not tested) that Gigabyte Routers/Switchers improve the quality over the LAN .. -
PC DVR card with suitable remote viewing software

This one is only for Geo (my Third Generation version), I did do a second generation version for Iview when i used their cards "temporarily" and the first generation was done for Kalatel Stand Alone DVRs ... I also did a custom Multi View version for someone else a few months ago .. also I have planned to add many more features including multisite, just right now things are tight and looking for a regualr job as we speak ... Meanwhile all media and data files can be located here; http://www.bahamassecurity.com/Geo/ http://www.bahamassecurity.com/Uploads/ http://www.bahamassecurity.com/Video/ Trying to get some extra exposure to my parents Real Estate right now hence the home page search box .. PS. Contact me by PM for activation .. its free right now. -
f1.3, f 1.0 f1.4... how do these factor into picking a lens
rory replied to CSCOUT2001's topic in Security Cameras
True, i must have been thinking of Tamron Fujinon's F:0.95 lens is also great for Exview Color Cameras ... sees in almost no light .. but you do get that noise effect at really low levels. -

f1.3, f 1.0 f1.4... how do these factor into picking a lens
rory replied to CSCOUT2001's topic in Security Cameras
It still depends on the camera, whether it can handle that extra light, and what it does with it, cheap cameras cant typically handle light efficiently .. Do you have the specs on the camera? I mean its worth a try anyway. BTW Fujinon Day Night Lenses are said to be very good. But for a camera without a mechanical I Cut Filter, you dont need a day night lens, just get an aspherical lens -

If you mean Cable TV, yeah thats works. Basically you get a 2 in 1 out splitter (which can be purchased with the Mod), at the end where the Cable goes out to the TV/s .. the Main cable feed goes in one side, the RG6 from the Mod goes in the other side .. then one cable goes out to the TV/s (or to an existing splitter if there is one). Typically I use channels i nthe 70's and get a low pass filter also which blocks out any cable interference .. also with some models you have to skip a channel, so if its a 4 channel mod and it starts at channel 71, then it would be 71, 73, 75 and 77 ... for example .. Take a look at this page for some of the products out there .. channel vision has some good gear, ive used them in the past, there is also channel plus which i heard was also good. You can t ypically buy these from most AV/Security stores. http://www.channelvision.com/index/47 -

Id scrap that idea ... too many issues can occur .. take a look at an Rf Modualtor ... lets you put them on the TV Channels .. they come in 1-4 channels, you could even have 1 camera on each channel if you wanted .. just run a RG6 Coax from the DVR where the RF mod would be, out to where the cable splits out to the TVs ... much easier ... no names, all the ones ive seen were lame.

Just saw you said outdoors .. thats where the issue raises, for the 30-40' IR bullets that do outdoors (anything can light up inside a room) they will cost double that ..

Closest would be in Miami ... Well there is a Food Store over the Bridge then juust to the east up the road about a half mile ..

Does the PTZ Video work plugged into a CCTV monitor or TV? The only thing i can think to give video loss, is that it is enabled, but there is no video .. and if the camera has power, and you may get some video on a CCTV Monitor or TV, means there is very little signal coming out .. maybe check the video connection to the dome and the BNC's .. Anyway, make sure there is video coming from the Dome first .. just to be sure ...
