    High-Definition CCTV

The Video is fine, but the software needs some improvement in that area, even IP systems (is this an IP camera?) dont yet match DVR software.

    Geovision Problem - PTZ/Video Lost

Hi, Video loss wont have anything to do with the Camera Address settings, you should still get video from the camera even if you cant control it. Did you check to make sure it is still enabled in the Geo "Camera Enable" Section?

Going to Bahamas - What to do rory?

no need, they got that place locked down good its not part of Nassau, its on a seperate Island seperated by a bridge .. You'll have plenty to do just at the Hotel actually ... but if you want to see a little more of island life, take a day trip on the Bohengy (fast ferry) to Harbour Island ... If you decide to rent a car, let me know first, so i can tell yah how it works down here ... not much traffic laws are followed here Whatever yah do, dont rent mopeds, its dangerous enough driving here in a car .. also be careful on the beach at atlantis, there have been a few watersport accidents, only use specified watersport companies also .. atlantis will be able to fill you in on that. Also you can catch a ferry over to Nassau, to Bay Street, which is our downtown area. Whatever you do, never venture "over the hill", unless you're in a vehicle with someone you know, and during the day. It is interesting to see though, so let me know when you come down and I could show you those areas .... Lyford Cay is a nice area to see also, its our Beverly Hills, hard to get inside unless you know someone though .. like me (Taxis cant get in even) Dont think you'd get much snorkeling done off Atlantis' beach as it gets deep quick, so look for day trips to Rose Island (an island just East of Paradise Island where Atlantis is located), such as Majestic Tours do trips there every day. They have shallow water and perfect reefs close to the shore (I worked there for a year long time ago). There's alot of other things to do if you have money, like PowerBoat Adventures, Helicopter Tour, etc ... depends ... Id say a 2 day trip to Long Island in the Southern Bahamas, but since you have Kids, they may get a little bored, its the real out islands ... beautiful place though ... Harbour Island is beautiful also, just really small .. but worth seeing if you arent going to any other outislands .. Nassau and Paradise Island isnt the "real" Bahamas .. They also have Swim With the Sharks ... on the South Western side of Nassau .. deep sea fishing trips, etc etc .. Anyway give me a shout closer to the time. Rory

  11. The first one is probably best quality, as I know who makes it. But its a narrow lens. The Second one is 1/4" 4.3mm lens so thats about the same as the above for lens view. The 3rd is 4mm 1/3" so its wider than those above, but not really wide angle 1.9=fish eye, 2.5-3.6=wide angle, 4mm=normal), also no IR and low Res, though all those bullets will probably be around the same amount of pixel elements anyway. For that price you wont get a Day Night camera, just a Color IR .. but that should be fine for just inside a small room. Are you buying retail or dealer?

    Speco vs Bosch

Hi, Basically Bosch is a Manufacturer, typically higher end, professional quality gear, while Speco is an OEM; they buy products from Asia and relable them with their name .. Simply Bosch gear is much better. Without knowing the actual products, its hard to tear them all apart and give you exact differences .. do you have model numbers or did it just Day Night? There are many variations of Day Night ..with Bosch (as well as Ge, Sanyo, Panasonic, etc) you can be assured that it would be Day Night, with Speco and other OEMs, its hard to say, as they also sell alot of low light color cameras or Color IR (not the same as day night). They do also have a couple actual Day Night Bullets, but they still dont match the Bosch gear for image quality. And im not even a fan of Bosch, I prefer GE, Ganz, Panasonic and Sanyo ... but i Do know they make quality gear. I also use to sell the Speco gear so Its an up and down ...depends on the model number. Dont get me wrong, Speco do have a couple very decent bullet cameras, but really thats about it .. Also see the links in this sticky .. lots of Day Night related information .. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=6122 Rory

    EX82 Examples

Okay i digged these old ones up from 2003, but thought id post them anyway .. this is the EX82 from Extreme CCTV .. Dual Camera (BW CCD and BW CCD). Example is mearly for lighting sample so dont pay too much attention to the focus as was on a roof just testing it at the time. Note: Infrared Mode means it is pitch dark in the camera view, except the lights on the street, which do no effect the car park. And here is the original PDF which also shows a color box camera from Kalatel and a Provideo BW Bullet, as comparisons .. http://www.bahamassecurity.com/uploads/comparison.pdf
  16. There are many types, versions and models of chips. Need to know if they are both CCD, or one is CMOS and the other CCD .. Are they Sony, Sharp, Panasonic, etc? Do they both cost the same? .. (there are many versions of the same type of chip also from a budget Exview, to a Professional one) If they both cost the same price range, both from the same manufacturer, both have the same exact features, then the main difference is one accepts a 1/4 inch lens, the other a 1/3" lens, the larger the CCD normally the more sensitive it is also .. and when you look at the difference in lenses, simply a 1/3" 4mm is wider than a 1/4" 4mm ... As for the 480TVL, resolution is dependent on the camera itself .. they all differ, but Picture Elements or Effectice Pixels are more important than going by the specified TVL.. . which BTW is incorrect most of the time, especially with OEM cameras.

    USA Security DVR

All the cameras listed are Cheap Budget DIY stuff also ... Ok onto the DVR, we'll cover the 64 channel model .. Preview Resolution: 352*240(NTSC) Video Compression: H.264, Frame: 30F/s Output:32kbps-1000kbps(CIF) Compression Resolution: 352*240(NTSC), 176*120(NTSC) Low Res ... whats the point of a low res DVR??

    High-Definition CCTV

Hi Howard, they've actuually been doing this for a few years now ...
  20. Video from an analogue output to a TV can be higher quality than if viewed on a PC Monitor, especially if the PC monitor is an LCD . Modulated to the TV channels is not the same quality as directly plugged into the AV on the TV though .. Back to the cosco unit ... Looking at the Specs, the cameras are ultra budget cameras, low resolution, not low lux, not Day Night (dont believe the hype ), 6 mm narrow 1/4" lens (which may have actually helped with some of the quality issues and even may have helped a little with the IR), not very weather resistant (IP44). Onto the DVR part ... its a dual quad .. meaning its not a multiplexer.. .. which generally means you are getting 720x240 / 4 images. ... so low resolution recording (though they actually say 360x240 and 720x240 in Full mode - a typical spec for the budget DVRs) as well as that is actually sought of rectangular (640x480 is much better than 720x240, then 720x480 is even better), Mjpeg is higher quality compression, but eats up space ... however its a norm on the budget units .. The Monitor looks like the best part .. So definately thats an extremely budget system ... the cheapest DVRs on the market have removeable Hard Drives ... and pretty much all the same functions .. but other than that ... anyway .. alot of them actually use the same exact boards and menu program, as well as the same generic network software ... So thats my little rant on that system .. now lets get you something better ... better doesnt have to be too expensive either ..
  21. Is heat an issue where you are located? Dont forget about that part of it ... PC or Standalone .. they still need air (it gets real hot down here which is why i asked)

More than one instance of MultiView

Like Kao said, check out Center 2 .. it will do what you want. The version included with your Geo card at no extra charge, Manages 5 DVR Systems and up to 80 cameras. http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/solution/GV-CV2_Intro.htm
  23. Well Colin has summed just about everything up perfectly .. As to the LAN issue ... your DVR, if it is a PC or a Stand alone, would act as the server ...simply set an internal IP for it, then from the other Home PCs you can access it. If you need outside (WAN) access then you would port forward the router. Ofcourse Note that not all DVRs come with a LAN output ... especially the very budget models. Also, you could use an RF modulator to put the video on the TV channels .. better quality than using the LAN. They come in variations such as 1, 2, 3 and 4 channel ...For Example you could have 2x 4 channel Quad views on 2 channels, and then have a full screen of 2 of the most important cameras on the other 2. Or use multiple Modulators to take up more channels ... in fact you could have a channel for each camera if you really wanted .. well depends on the amount of cameras .. Optionally for even better video quality you could plug the video direct into the TVs. In the event you have a PC DVR, you can either use the Video Card Output (RCA/DVI/SVideo) or in the case of the Geo Vision you could get the combo card to have the higher quality DSP ouput (analogue). They also have loop out cards, or you can even just go out to a muliutplexer, or quad. .. there are many options. As for control, Geo has a Keypad controller, which can control multiple Geo PC DVRs .. then the IR Remote also. The Remote is nice as you can set it up in a non admin user mode so it always stays in full screen .. that way the user using the Remote will only ever control the views, though the admin can login using the Remote, PC Keyboard, or Geo Keypad .. to do what they want, or even administer it over the LAN or WAN (Free Ultra VNC or they have add on software, as well as included Remote Playback Software - and dont forget my free customised live viewer). Anyway .. back to the cameras .. for LPR we went both ways, in the End the Extreme REG cameras are the easiest to install and sicne they are designed for that application, they just work. There are many issues to deal with when setting up for LPR .. one thing in particular are headlights, but also, remember you have to zoom that camera right in on the width of a single car ... so for 2 lanes you will need 2 cameras, and they can only be for LPR and nothing else.. .. Remote monitor problem

    welcome to the forum ,..
  25. They will need to pay for some mega bandwidth well depends on the amount of cameras ... and the server's you will be building. Ahh, you can get software to handle much more than that, MileStone for example, or even customize your own. THis is where you will need to get the buggest baddest superfast LAN ... Look at other options, such as CCTV ... IP isnt CCTV ... if the cable runs are long then look at either UTP gear (cat5, etc such as NVT.com), or Fiber. Either put certain areas on their own DVR .. like 8 cameras in section A could have a 8 channel DVR, 4 Cameras in section B could have a 4 channel, etc .. Look at the Geo Vision and also their Center Software .. You could also home run them all or to certain "blocks" .. then rack mount Servers, 16 channel for each one .. Anyway there are a lot of options, Rory
