    Linux Based Systems

back to the topic though, why doesnt the Linux DVR systems match up to the Windows ones yet ...? also, where's the mac in all this ..?? Basically, Can they do it and the programmers just dont cut it, or is there a software/hardware restriction?

did they leave you with the working module ..? How is the data cable connected to the keypad ..? What cable is used? Did you try it with just the monitor, keypad, and PTZ?

Ok yeah, with the Legend, same thing, I had it on its side ... when i turned it on, it started doing something but not much, it would go side to side, back and forth, but the thing is, it could not complete its full start up test. I always had the CyberDomes mounted when i messed with them, so never saw that issue before. But when i Wall Mounted this Legend, just temporary ofcourse, and then tried it again ... still did the same thing ... Whoops ...i hadnt powered it off yet ... i then powered it down and back on again ... Bang .. it worked! (flawlesly) Anyway, seems the motors have issues being not mounted upright, or actually upside down for us. Seems it needs the Test to complete, and until the Dome performs its test, it wont work. At least with the Legend, so perhaps the same with the CyberDome. .. Do this .. Once it is mounted on a wall, wood or whatever, once the motor is in place as it should be ... make sure it is disconnected from everything, but a monitor .. Then power it up fresh .. see if it goes through its check .. it should go through a couple left right turns, then zoom in and out (or vice versa) then it will stop sought of pointed downward. If it doesnt turn left and right and zoom in and out, then the camera has a problem. If it does the test fine, then power it down again and connect only the IO box and the Keypad ... let us know what happens. Rory

    WDR Camera

thanks .. ill get some photos off the video i took before i spec everything, working on that now .. basically there are so many florescent lights, the panos should be okay with it, but in the other areas ill probably have to use regular color box cams dropped down with a normal plastic mount, to get below the lighting, for the store area .. then use some wall mount vandal domes in the staff/public areas. Probably just use the GE Vandal Domes for that as they are easy to wall mount to look sideways ... (no wizkids!! ) and ive used them before with no real issues. They specifically asked for domes though but ... i thought about the Ganz VFA Indoor Domes but i just think the lights will effect them too much .. as the ceilings arent that high and so yopu have to point them up alot .. which will catch some of the florescents ... The Pano Box cameras would be for the car parks bTW .. in housings (pelco housings probably). Going to quote one PTZ inside the store also, its pretty big .. they asked for a PTZ ... probably the GE legend, dont need WDR ... id like to use WDR all through but then they wont pay for all that to start with .. its basically one large store in a mall (our version of a wallmart)... then they say they'll do the rest of the mall next.

    WDR Camera

Cool, hey you ever installed the WDR Pano Dome? I dont see it in their manual online but looking to see how easy it is to flush mount in a drop tile ceiling ... wonderinf if you can just mount the base on the top side of the tile then screw in the flush one there ... only issue i might have are the florescent lights ... they got a ton of them .. also how weather resist they are.. got a client that needs alot of vandal domes ... one for inside looking at a entrance, the other outside the entrance under a little eave ... and a box camera higher up to cover the car park would be the box version ... thanks Rory ps. yeah im finally asking a question ..
  11. Also, unless you specifically go into the Port Filtering in Networking, there will always be ports available for "hacking" with or without a router .. turn on Filtering for TCP, UDP and Internet, then in TCP just add the ports you need opened for the DVR. You can also set another port for the HTTP instead of 80. See this post also. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=4534#36977

You will want Zone Mode ... BTW, You dont even have to program anything for it just to work .. Do you have the IO box hooked up correct? What cable are you using for the data?

Definately, and power it on and off before you try again . .. I had the same issue with the Legend Dome a couple weeks ago.

Is the Dome standing upright (like as if it were on the wall)? If not it wont work generally.

Your going to have even more fun trying to get the Panasonic Working with the GE .. but it will .. the GE PTZ should just be plug and play, as it is with the GeoVision PC DVR .. once the adaptors (probridge etc) are purchased. Did you ever contact GE tech support? Also, list again all the parts you have now. Thanks Rory

    cheap budget DIY ..
  18. you could just use Ultra VNC in that case
  19. You can download 8.01 from their website. First uninstall 7.04, then install the new version. Once that is done, you can then upgrade to version 8.02 if you like. Download the Detection tool first to make sure it will work with your card. http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/5_0.asp?sfiled1=didg&pno=4
  20. you could just use a Geovision GV250 2 channel card ... once the extra PC is windows XP, at least 1.7Ghz and 256MB DDR, need a somewhat decent video card also, well at least 64MB .. 128 preferred ..
  21. Hi, well you can use just a BW Bullet camera if you are mainly concerned with night, and on a tight budget ... most OEM ones should work .. do you want to record it ..?
