i can ask the generator guy when they get back tomorrow .. myself i dont know anything about generators .. though off the top of my head i imagine you could use a relay from the PC somehow ..using the UPS software maybe when the battery gets to a point then it switches the generator over .. but if you get an auto switch for the generator when the power goes off it will switch on by itself .. those switches arent that cheap though.

yeah well i was tlaking about normal cameras mate But yeah we have 5 EX80's on one single 650VA APC UPS with AVR. With 24VAC they top out at 1A at night. that said i want to start selling a UPS that can get me 2 hours as thats the average time period the power goes off around here (every week) though the chinese generators from jamaica they are starting to import will probably be just as cheap

was looking at them myself .. next week may find out more ... i wonder if they are just too expensive which is why people arent carrying them? Now that said .. if they have embedded XP i wont touch them, unless they send me a fully licenced copy of Embedded XP and a way to reload the OS ... or is it the same as regular XP as far as it being on the HDD? Havent had a chance to look into it in any depth right now .. but have to be able to reformat and reload windows .. Rory

Where did you buy this card? -
security is not even my issue ... inteference .. thats it .. if its IP based then it also quality / speed, not to mention the user has to be PC literate ..
-
no silly ghetto clients or gated community client types .. or a lil of both ..
-
1-Are you or anyone supporting the DVR's Computer Literate? [this means simply, can you change out PC hardware?] 2-Are your target clients PC Literate? [can they at least check email?] 3-Are your target clients broke, mid range, or rich? [ghetto or gated community? or Both?] Once these 3 questions are answered then an answer to the original question will be easier to obtain - no essays required [just yet]. The actual features of the DVR you sell and maintain means little, if you cant support it or the clients cant afford it. Both PC and Embedded DVRs come in varying price ranges and features, the most common factors with both types is the more you spend, the more features you get, and the more stable the system typically will be. Audio Video Data and Power CAT5 UTP Balun - Does it exist?
rory replied to oface's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Check out http://www.nvt.com/ for the transmission part. For the camera, for that cost you will be stuck with an OEM no name PTZ, they really arent great but will work, just that you get what you pay for. -
Hi Darko, bottom line is every DVR is different, if you let us know which DVR we maybe able to assist. Typically you want at least 256K upload speed, more if you will want multiple users connected at the same time, and the more connected cameras, the more bandwidth required. You can set bandwidth limits with most DVRs these days.

Hi, to playback locally you would use ViewLog .. if you want to download from a remote location to playback, you would use Remote Playback. Just so you know, Remote Playback is a Server Client application, it is designed primarily for downloading of the video from a remote location using the Client software. You can playback the video also but it is compressed heavily for that purpose as you are basically streaming pieces of remote AVI files, it is slow, low quality from the massive compression, and not recommended for any serious reviewing. When you download the file though, it is the same as the file on the Remote DVR.

Cool !! -
There are 2 different types, should we go into detail with the 2 different ones, IP and Analogue? Anyway, one con that is the same with both, Interference. Also, unless you are going to use a nice big solar cell then there still has to be power wire run to the camera, so its no more hidden than if running the video wire. Simply, only use wireless when it is absolutely impossible to run wire to a camera.

Pity they didnt post the images .. probably cause they cant touch the quality of analogue CCTV yet ... To our friend in Malaysia, brand does matter.

thats great to hear man, let us know how it goes ps. if you need help, im willing to travel

I think you are worrying just a little too much .. the 128-256MB DDR AGP cards have been flawless in the past, and the X300 is perfect .. The DSP output has no dependencies on the video card BTW.

also check out VideoComm (http://www.videotransmitters.com) for Wireless Real Time Transmitters and Receivers. These are different from IP based, there are no bandwidth issues and clarity is crisp as it is analogue video; just like plugging it into the CCTV monitor direct. Once the number of cameras are minimal this would be the best solution for a security application if having to use Wireless (you can also use other manufacturers such as Microtek, Trango, etc, make sure it is Analogue Wireless, not IP). There are however limitations on the number of cameras that can be set up using Analogue Wireless, if you are looking to add alot of cameras (12+) in the future then you are stuck with IP based Wireless ..

Basically you need to check with the DVR manufacturer whether the Merlit Lilin Protocol is supported, or if Merlit Lilin uses the Pelco D protocol then you should be able to get it to work.
