  1. Yes I do this all the time. Just tell them plug it into a router and either give you admin access to the router, or use something like TeamviewerQS on a networked PC at the location. Its simple and should not take more than 5-10 minutes. BTW you only need port 37777 for live, playback and remote config - the HTTP port only needed for browser access.

    The Future of Analog CCTV...

It will only continue to get better, more feature rich and cheaper. Competition drives evolution. Take your average DVR 2 years ago and put it beside todays popular DVRs - it is like day and night. Developers will always come up with new ideas.
  4. Dahua - though not customization in the firmware side itself besides changing logos etc, they offer an SDK with API calls for Networked Live video and playback, as well as DVR control, alarms, etc. GeoVision PC based also offer an SDK but it is in the way of an ActiveX control instead of API. They do offer some minor API calls as well. Most DVR manufacturers will be using ActiveX controls only for their SDK. PC based would give more options for that, though you can download the videos from some stand alone DVRs, especially when using SDK. Using the DVR firmware itself that depends on the DVR firmware. Otherwise using the SDK you can do anything you want in that regard. Yes In general no, they are closed in that regard. You get what they offer and nothing more. Many use proprietary codecs. Most will include access control along with individual permissions. They keep their settings, startup time depends on the DVR and its firmware - not all are built the same. Stand alone DVRs do very well, it is one of the main reasons I use them and not a PC DVR anymore. RTOS, basic board, simple components, no fast CPU to overheat, power adapter cord instead of big ATX power supply - ofcourse hard drive can always be another fail point. I don't know what language you code in but I will leave you with this as an example: http://www.bahamassecurity.com/vb-code/visual-basic-6-code/dahua-sdk-vb6.asp and the bottom of this page has all the SDKs for Dahua: http://www.bahamassecurity.com/downloads/dahua-downloads.asp Even if you dont use Dahua it could give you an idea of the capabilities. It's the most thorough SDK I have ever seen from a DVR manufacturer. I am sure there are others though, well if there are perhaps they can send me their SDK.
  5. If you upgrade to 2.608 firmware for whatever reason, make sure to change the encoding back to D1 if thats what you were using before. If you are also recording motion, change that as well. Use the drop down next to "Main Stream" to toggle between Main Stream, Motion Stream and Alarm Stream. If you are only recording continuous and not motion or alarm, then you may not need to make any changes. Save changes for each type of stream, copy to other channels to make it easier.
  6. You could work with it using FindWindow API etc Depends what you want to do. Dahua makes DVR cards, they also provide a full XP and Linux SDK Its in C++ though if that matters. I've converted alot of their other SDK to VB6.

CCTV cameras are fun on halloween too!

The non stop sounds of explosions for days/nights leading up to Halloween were really annoying. Here the punks just would not give it a rest. thing is never know if its a gun or fireworks and although its in the distance its still like it is right next door. Now its finally quietened down. Trick or treat kind of doesn't exist here, unless you count the ghetto parents driving their kids into the near decent areas to go around knocking on peoples doors for free candy .. luckily I live in an area where people cant just park and walk around .. plus I got my welcome mat out and its called a machete! In other words the trick is how does one make it into my yard and out in one piece

    PSS V4.04 FOR MAC

Thats an old version (06/09/10), current version is 4.04.7 (15/01/11) http://www.bahamassecurity.com/downloads/dahua-downloads.asp Current version does not support Lion. Dahua says next month should be a release for Lion.
  11. viewtopic.php?f=36&t=22300&p=133873#p133873 check thread from the beginning, regarding a WD Green AV drive and stuttering video. WD Blacks? Nice, but the blues work fine for alot less. The greens seem to work fine in Dahua DVRs also maybe because its just 7fps record max - the problems I had were in a GeoVision PC DVR.
