Yep. I have the same problem with lazy SQL admins not compacting their databases like they should, or MS Exchange admins who never do offline defrags for some reason. And I'm sure you've run into guys that have done Access databases and feel that it qualifies them to discuss the merits of PostgreSQL vs MS SQL vs MySQL vs Oracle. hey all i use is Access the others dont concern me though . .if i need to use SQL server I will learn it ..

oh yeah DVRs and Cameras are 2 totally different things, you can spend 10 minutes setting up a DVR if you know the system, while a professional camera properly set up can take 1-3 hours (or more) on average .. most people dont know a portable LCD monitor is useless for focusing a camera, and was never designed for that purpose.
-
Ok, but at least try a mux, a PC card and a PC Monitor cant touch the quality of a mux with a CRT monitor .. unless you do something like this .. As for the Voice Recorder, whats it gotta do with Geo .. LOL Rules are in place for a reason, Dealers would leave the forum and it would just be another Yahoo or Google .. I wont get into the whole pricing thing again as thats been done already many times. As for the IT thing, thats a much larger industry than the CCTV industry .. so no comparison .. in fact the CCTV Industry is non existent right now in the Bahamas . .. im back in alarms for now ..
-
Actually, if anything the site is more geared to end users, us in the industry actually loose money coming here to help .. we do it for the love of it .. But like i said before, if you want to know if something is Pirate or not, email the manufacturer, in this case Geo. They also have a list of Distributors on their site, and also the forum has a banner ad with a legite distributor. I mean anyone can out up a website, that is simple .. buying anything online is always a risk, and should require some investigation buy the purchaser .. otherwise hire a pro that knows already .. thats what they get paid for .. everyone has to eat. Course can you even trust brick and morter companies these days .. LOL

But there is alot more than using a DVR card and a PC, it goes back to the basics of CCTV, alot of DVR card users forget, or dont know anything about that .. Id even go as far as saying alot of so called CCTV pros (and even manufacturers) dont know that these days .. Basically if you really want to learn the industry, buy a Mux and a Timelapse VCR, a couple Box cameras without all the OSD stuff, and a CCTV CRT monitor .. and go wild with it .. remember quality should be as clear as a movie Also, coming from an IT world you should know the value of getting paid for what you know .. ? The average user wont know the total ins and out of Windows or networks .. for a basic example ..

Bottom Line is end users should hire a Professional who has already spent time and money to investigate and learn the industry. Remember all Dealers and installers on this forum have to eat also, and this is what they (most of them) do for a living. If all end users are off doing their business, there is no industry for them, and then there is no need for them to come here and help end users, and then the forum and forums like this will never exist - exept on yahop and google .. As to finding out if it is legite, simply email the manufacturer/developer, they respond ASAP.

Please Help-best processor for Geo 1480 +poweredge server

Sounds Cool .. you might want to rethink the video card though, an ATI 256 would be a better choice for the Combo card .. i thinks .. -
There is also a section for the WebCam and quality settings. Also when you start WebCam make sure it is set to Mpeg4 and not H264 ... that makes a difference ..
-
what codec are you recording with .. make sure it is Geo Mpeg4 as the other 2 new ones look like crap .. Rory

One thing i found with my GV250 . when it wasnt screwed in properly (i know i know .. lol) and after perhaps knocking the PC accidently (i know i know ..) .. when i opened the Geo Software it would freeze everything ... maybe check the card in case it has come slightly out of the slot .. just an idea ..
-
the cheaper ones are even worse .. i installed a couple before and never again ...
-
Id start with the Motherboard .. see if it is on the list of supported boards .. if it was an intel chipset then for sure we could look at something else .. but being its an nVidia .. also make sure the video card is supported ..though from the error sounds like a mobo CPU issue ..

twas the same on the previous software

GE Kalatel DVMre CT 320GB DVR- Remote Networking help
rory replied to 18pcs's topic in Computers/Networking
I emailed GE but havent heard back yet ... basically had the same issue trying to use the browser software when a router was connected, though that was with older versions over a year ago .. course you could still use my activeX as it uses port 1024 anyways .. ill try and see if I can get my newer activeX to work .. it has more features than their browser software can ever think of. also PM me your latest IP i want to check something as I just located the URL path for the configure part of their wavebrowser . thanks Rory -
Not true colors though as no IR Cut Filter ..
-
uninstall the software and delete the Geo folder .. the Geo ini files are in the windows directory, if you want a fresh install delete them too .. though i didnt and my playback is fine ..

Looking for Camera Beta Testers (CCTV Forum Exclusive)
rory replied to GECAMGUY's topic in Security Cameras
well you know im in Id love to try them. Just tested some new Extreme cameras a few minutes ago someone brought them by here .. i have the perfect area to test cameras .. anyway will post pictures when they come back with a Digital Camera .. btw, should we move this to the dealer section ..? Also are you in that section yet, if not let me know .. also .. has GE thought about anything similar to the Sanyo Pan Focus camera yet ..? I know there is a Korean Manu that makes a similar product to it and noone is carrying it yet in the US ... simply you give someone a True day night dome .. they mount it in Egypt or somewhere ,, and using some custom software you can focus it remotely using the Zoom Module .. and also they have an IP module .. no I havent tried it yet, just read the brochure .. the main thing they are promoting it for is that as a varifocal lens ,, you dont have to focus it .. just manually adjust the zoom .. Now my ultimate Dome Camera is this ... 1-Day Night 2-Mech Filter 3-Exview 4-WDR 5-0.1 lux Color 6-0.01 Lux BW 7-Dual Voltage 8-Polarity unsensitive 9-Auto Iris 10-Zoom Module w/ Protocols (or activeX) 11-IP Module (why not) 12-Exterior Locakable Area (for adjustments) 13-Zoom Specified by Installers come Preset (so no adjustments) The Lockable area is accessible from the outside with a key of sought .. where you can plug in a monitor out cable and make lens and camera adjustments .. without ever needing to remove the dome cover (mostly for maintenance) And the activeX for the zoom module would be nice so we could develop custom software that also works with these cameras .. My only beef with the box cameras is the set up is too much work (housings etc ...) Hmmm .. Rory
