    GeoVision Linux Drivers

LoL. well Geo is a software company, the cards they use are actually some of the best on the market, made in South Korea. .. and the manufacturer is very strict on who they sell their cards to for OEM. As for the software, its extremelely stable. In fact the only issues I have had were when i am messing with the Skin files, and I changed something I wasnt meant to, was a simple fix by changing the .ini text back to default. Ofcourse most users wont be making any changes to the skins anyway. Now that said, I cant speak for version 8.0, ive been using 7.04 from last summer. Never heard of Illuder.com, what cards do they use? As they are not a manufacturer or software developer .. now if I go by their website, then im not impressed, as it is currently down for "construction". If you post a screenshot of the software we can identify the brand for you. Also, Netvision has a post in the Product Annoucnement forum, they are another DVR Card manufacturer.

nah, they claim its the "better" so who is the "bestest" Was looking at Netvision and wouldnt mind giving them a try ...
  3. Looks a little off, should be much better being that it is indoors. What type of camera are you using? If you have Ultra VNC installed let me get on and check it out for you to at least make sure the software side is setup properly (PM). Rory

    geo webcam server port 82

here's an example of setting up Geo and Port Filtering, using Port 8234 instead of port 80 for the web cam. Turning on Filtering for UDP and IP Protocols makes only those ports for Geo available, incoming. You wont be able to browse the web or use any other port at all. I just set it up on another PC and the geoweb cam ports work fine like this, and using my program I can stream video. 5900 is for Ultra VNC btw ..

    geo webcam server port 82

Make sure port 82 was setup in Geo webCam, Port Forwarded, and also opened in the windows Firewall.
  6. ill take a closer look when i get back, but straight off you wont want to power the EX80's over UTP, posibbly also not the EX38, ill check on that one.

tell him he needs a new IT guy ..
  8. Check out the video clips onb my home page, top right. 2 are a GV800 the other a GV250 on a Via Chipset .. all cheap low res bullets .. let me know if you see any difference .. remember, 350TVL color bullets ..
  9. TCPServer requires port 3550 BTW, if you are only going to use WebCam no need to enable it. Running any web server there is always going to be a "risk", but unless you are the CIA or something like a large Federal bank, who is looking .. Windows Firewall only blocks incoming. If they were to use IE then they could end up downloading something bad, so make sure to start with, Content Control is turned on, secondly turn security on high, thirdly disable IE in Program Access in Add Remove Programs. Even if you do this they can still goto the Contol panel or other and type a web address in the Address Bar, so thats why the following is essential. Next change the port from 80 to another like 81, 82 or even others like 8234, etc .. use Port Filtering in the Network Connecttions TCP Properties, Advanced Tab. Enable Filtering on all TCP ports, add the ports you want opened. Also note, dont install FireFox, there are some holes in that also, or moreso the issue is with Windows Media Player but still, trojans are able to get through. There are ways around it but best to leave it off.

    Playground Installation

Hi, no line of sight would require large towers which arent cheap. it would make more sense to put in 2 seperate 4 channel DVRs at each location. Make it 4 cameras so its even, if even just adding a camera to watch the main office where the DVR is located. Set up 2 PCs for remote monitoring at the police HQ .. 4 way view each one ... they'll be impressed. if you use Geo for example (PC Based) then you could use the Center Software that comes with it for a 6 way view and so you could only use 3 cameras each if you wanted. Most other DVRs have a 4 way view, 9 way view, etc. A decent option for a non PC based DVR would be the GE Dvrs like the StoreSafe 4 channels. They also have multi site software for remote viewing, though it is in 4 way, 16 way, 32 way, and 64 way. Ive installed these in the past where they were not locally viewed and they have been working for years and are still onlin without one service call in most instances, stuck in a closet with a Cable Router for example.
  13. that sucks ... specially when smoke detectors dont do much anyway .. most they are good for is personaly safety .. And if that is the case, then Motion Detector Cameras should be the same, as they do the same thing a smoke does, personal safety .. guess the fire marchals have more pull in those states then the cops ..
  14. Here is another document geared for security .. http://www.bahamassecurity.com/uploads/XP-TWEAKING.pdf
  15. I forgot to ask, what cameras are they?
  16. A colleague bought one for a client, we were trying to get it to work as is .. (without a probridge). No Luck, tried every available protocol, nothing. Basically it allows you to address it to other brand protocols. Also set up the PC software for each one as I did it .. correct baud rates, etc .. still nothing .. any ideas .. do I need the Probridge for this, as the CyberDome does ..? Got video, just cant control it ..

    Stuttering Issue (video link enclosed)

Is it doing this in Live View? If it is set to Motion Record, and only in playback, this is normal. You can adjust the pre and post recording times to adjust this some. What card is it? Rory
  18. The monitor makes a huge difference with Video Surveillance though, Can you upload a recorded clip so I can check it out? Also if you have any screenshots of the settings for a camera. Thanks Rory
  19. Okay got assist from Ge on this, basically it works, just a switch setting issue. Switch 9 is the Pelco-D Protocol for anyone else trying it, the book has it as 6. So its actually a very simple to install PTZ, and day night switchover is great, really good low light color also. It has an image flip feature, just have to get used to that. It means instead of rotating all around and back again, the image just flips to follow the subject. Putting the camera inside the dome is just snapping it in, easily with 1 hand. taking it out to change protocol and camera ID settings, twist it like a millimetre and pull down, comes right out .. power and data connections (as well as the others) are push in with screw terminals, so you make your connections then just push them into their allotted slots. Anyway, so got it working with an OEM Keyboard and the PC DVR software, just parralelled the pos+ and neg- transmit wires and thats it .. actually just spliced in the keyboard wire inline with the PC wire, just for testing inside the room. So yep I answered my own question .. though personally not sure if Id choose this over a CyberDome .. A Colleague purchased it, was just helping.
  20. Set up Port Filtering in the Network Advanced Settings. Only Add TCP Ports required by Geo. See this post for more info .. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=36977#36977

    Geovision 800-8

Hard to say, but it seems the software is pre 7.04 and perhaps they have alot of them they are trying to get rid of to make way for the Version 8.0 ones ... general specs such as resolutions seem legit, but like i said, it has GeoMpeg4 instead of Fast Mpeg4 which came out in 7.04 ..
  22. That dell doesnt look like the best choice IMO .. The Video quality of what you see, will depend on the video card, and the monitor. The actual quality of the recording has nothing to do with it, but if played back on the same system it will not be perfect if the live video is not good. LCD monitors - these degrade the quality ALOT ... and the cheaper brands, even more so. You want to definately use a LCD that is able to be run in its native resolution, and would be best looking for a 1024x768 LCD if you can find one that does that still. Remember the video camera quality if high res, is maybe 811x492 .. I wouldnt use anything less than a 128MB DDR Video Card, and personally have never used anything but ATI technology. Im not sure if you are expecting too much, or perhaps its not setup correctly? Here is an example of a high quality system with Geo. http://www.bahamassecurity.com/pc_setup_example.jpg Also, by default the quality will be low, 320x240, you must change this to at least 640x480 if you want any kind of quality. You could even use 720x480 if you have the hard disk space. This has to be changed in the camera setup also. Lastly, make sure you have the latest version of DirectX, latest video drivers are installed, and the video card supports Direct Overlay. Otherwise you will get horrible images. Rory
  23. same here, smoke detector, or motion detector ..

    Geovision Price Index

Well i know where your coming from, who doesnt want to save the most money .. but heres the thing, cheaper isnt always better .. someone making 1-5% off a card is less likely to give you any kind of support unless you are buying in bulk, such as a dealer purchase. You also want a Geo Distributor who can cover warranties, stocks it, and can assist in the updates. If you look at geo's web site, they have a list of distributors, also, one of our banner advertisers is a listed distributor. AS for pirated cards, its Anykeeper, Kodicom, and GeoVision .. Kodicom doesnt even sell cards to end users anyway so that much is covered .. Anykeeper is cheaper so its hard to spot the difference .. Geo .. the pirated cards are typically half the price, lower resolution, and older software. The CDs that the software comes on for them are almost always just a blank CD with a bunch of folders that leaves the user wondering ... its a 50-50 chance you get the drivers working, let alone the software .. and in the end, what you get is not GeoVision ... but it looks like it .. its not the same quality or performance. Now if you really want cheap, then look at Digiflower, or Anykeeper .. bottom line is an end user should not be purchasing a Geo Card at the same price a Reseller does. Without Resellers of Geo, Geo would go out of business and end users would be stuck with other cards .. which some are very good (Thomas' for example) ... anyway, what was the question again ..
