Umm .. possibly .. need more info .. Rory -
What type of mother board do you have, check the CHIPSET on that first as thats what really matters with the 60-120fos cards.

Difference between DVR cards and standalone DVRs?
rory replied to Garry's topic in General Digital Discussion
If its a Card, and its Kodicom or Geo, it should not be embedded. Kodicom and Geo are brands. There are pirated copies of them that dont match up to the real ones, which also use cracked versions of their older software. But we cant discuss those here -
Difference between DVR cards and standalone DVRs?
rory replied to Garry's topic in General Digital Discussion
What is the name of the DVR card are you looking at? One specific brand has the OS on chip, embedded, on the card, but that is rare. Another gives you the actual embedded board (not card) and you can place that inside any PC Case. Rare once again. Perhaps they are just selling you the Windows OS also? Or is it just already installed in a PC and setup for you? -
Difference between DVR cards and standalone DVRs?
rory replied to Garry's topic in General Digital Discussion
A stand alone is an all in one DVR and Multiplexer/Quad. Typically, though not always, a Stand alone has push buttons or an IR Remote, and no Mouse or Keyboard. They have an Embedded Operating System (on CHIP not on the HDD) and are generally non Windows. Most are Embedded Linux and some more expensive ones use an Embedded RTOS (Real Time Operating System). This means they dont use standard PC Components, most have been specially built or modified for their purpose. Embedded Windows XP models are also available but are not as common due to price. The main advantage to the Windows XP embedded units is you can obtain speeds and features which can not typically be duplicated in other embedded DVRs. The disadvantage is similar to a normal Windows PC Card system, where it is vulnarable to Viruses and Worms; though if set up properly, the chance of this lowers considerably. A PC Card is simply that, you use a Desktop PC with either Windows or less common, Linux, installed, and put the Card inside it. You must then install the DVR server software, burn it all for a period of time to ensure sure there are no Hardware conflicts and the software is installed properly, and you have a DVR. Most PC Cards also have a form of multiplexing, and some of them use programming on the Card itself to perform CPU dependent functions such as Compression and Multiplexing, while most still perform this in the DVR Server software. Some extremely cheap DVR Cards only record in very low quality and do not multiplex the signal at all. As for price difference, that depends on the DVR card, some are cheap and some are high quality. The main difference in price is the actual software that comes with the DVR card also, that it is stable and has alot of features, brings the price right up. Same with the Standalones, there are very cheap ones that have very few features, then there are much more expensive ones loaded with features. As with some of the very cheap PC Cards, cheap Standalones can encounter problems also, causes ranging from bad hardware to poorly written software, which can cause system freezes among many other issues. Does anyone have any links for Liquor Measuring Register systems, with the pourers? There is a large market for it here and I have the inside connections here, want to know what else is out there besides what the clients are currently using. Thanks Rory

enlarge image after recording to get license plate #
rory replied to 313-313's topic in Security Cameras
Most cameras zoomed in on a view such as the width of a car can generally get the licence plate when coupled with a decent shutter, High Res CCD and fast DVR, but if you want 24/7 licence capture, especially at night, you will either want to use a wide dynamic day night camera, or a specific LPR camera such as the Extreme, which Isaac already mentioned costs alot more than $600 .. and add alot of light, or Infrared. The Extreme REG cameras are really neat and worth the price if you are an installer and want near guarenteed licence plate capture, when you look at the guts of them and what they do to be able to cut out all the other light and get only the licence, it is really great. Unfortunately no Zoom or Traditional box camera comes close to it, without major modifications. Here are some screenshots of one of the Extreme REG camera captures . On this specific job the client had some JVC Box cameras installed zoomed in on the width of vehicles for licence capture, and although they worked well in the daytime, they saw virtually nothing at night. As they were willing to spend and werent adding any additional lighting, even though we did add temporary lighting to test, and still did not work great, they then decided they just wanted something that worked ... http://www.bahamassecurity.com/Gallery/Cameras/Extreme_REG.htm -
Here are some screenshots of the GE (Kalatel) WaveReader Software for anyone interested. http://www.bahamassecurity.com/Gallery/Systems/Kalatel.htm

well the thing is, they want $7K a register for the updated systems to the ones he has now .. the ones he has now are from the 80's .. he has 2 night clubs and a partner with anothr night club .. and they both have a ton of these .. thing is, he has more than the rep for the current system has down here .. Basically i need a way to set him up as a rep for a product down here so I an make some money off it AS really i would be the one doing the work .

Please .. yeah i was looking at that easy pour one also .. the client is using Azbar currently ... Thanks

They buy OEM from Asia, its best you purchase the same items from a supplier in your area as you are closer. Otherwise they would be importing from Asia, then basically sending it right back to your area ... they arent like GE where they have some items built specially for them at their plants, or build it themselves in the US. Id rate Baxall pretty much in the same range as Inkegami,Ganz and Sony, decent cameras. Nuvico is the OEM range like Provideo (Speco). I can understand purchasing it if in the US, but not where you guys are.

Simply, without reading the pdf, Aluminum Braid Coax will work, as I have proven by using it in the past, but it is not recommended as basically it is more subseptable to interference.

Sorry looked like their Mobile unit .. anyway, you would be better off with their Mpeg4 unit if you really want an Everfocus .. though if you look at the posts here on the EDSRs you will see they arent the best choice .. we used the 16 channel EDSRs and every single unit we had from a couple different distributors, would lock up the DVR when connected to it over the LAN .. There are much better choices for the cost.

no prob, is this for a mobile app? If not i would look at the Nubix, Sanyo, GE, in that order .. first . Rory

Just being realistic, motion will get you alot more, could range up to 1 month with motion. Non stop record (continuous, time lapse) and highest resolution will eat the space up quick. Like kand said, recording speed and quality settings will also be a major factor. The Actual model/brand of DVR used makes the difference also. Rory

Not a fan of neverfocus, but if it doesnt have motion record you will probably get approx 4-7 days recording with MJpeg and 80GB.. Look at the posts in this search. re: neverfocus: http://www.cctvforum.com/search.php?mode=results Enter: everfocus User: rory
