Looks like fun .. that thing is huge, reminds me of some of the really old cameras they have mounted at the hotels here .. one has a PTZ that is almost the size of me! Anyway, for the cost of a new camera that would outperform these old ones (probably under $50)... they would make a nice artificial reef . But if anything at least its worth learning the hardware ..

thanks, the nice thing is the IR remote controls everything (except switching inputs on the CCTV Monitor) The DSP is included on the Geo Combo Cards, or purchased seperately for the other cards as a 8 or 16 channel PCI Card. It has an RCA output. Though from their web site, it looks as though they have discontinued the seperate DSP card. Not sure if that is just a version 8 issue or they simply dont sell them anymore. Online Retailers are still selling them though. Geovision DSP-8 Real Time Display Card Geovision DSP-16 Real Time Display Card

this is how i have a system configured here, the LCD is nice but the CCTV monitor is much better for live and playback quality.
-
Yes certainly. The type of monitor also makes a difference. My new PC has i think a new ATI 256 while my old one has a 3rd party ATI 128, the new one is much clearer.
-
it effects the viewing quality, but not the recording. The monitor used and native resolutions also make a big viewing difference, when teamed up with certain video cards. which GV model is it? Also whats the PC Specs?
-
If you are using motion detection recording, you can get real time on cameras while others are not picking up motion. It uses Smart Motion Recording which means it spreads the total pps among all the connected cameras. Eg. If camera 1 is picking up motion but all other cameras are not, that camera will record in the total pps, if cameras 1 and 2 are picking up motion, then they will devide the total pps / 2, and once camera 2 stops motion, camera 1 goes back to the total pps. Many DVRs work like this, generally called Smart Motion Recording. From using multiplexers and single channel DVRs I experienced that even less than 1pps (5pps divided by 8 for example) was fine for evidence. Obviously depends on the application. Ive only ever upgraded GE DVRs when i needed faster recording speeds, such as the GeoVision 1480 for Real Time display and Recording in 640x480. Rory

The one i have is a ViewSonic 19" Wide Screen, but to get the really crisp quality you need a really good video card, and also has to run in native resolution, which on this one is 1440x900 .. small!!! i was using 1000x768 but as its wide screen my eyes are now hurting since it was always stretched .. basically to get the real good resolution on the high res LCD monitors you will need to run the screen at a really high resolution, everything being smaller. Another thing, I got a new PC with a really good video card and mobo, and it is even crisper than when connected to the older PC with the 128 card im using .. so yeah the computer (DVR) hardware will make a big diff also. Even so, all in all, there is still a small diff in quality from my old CRT. We use those 26 and 32" LCDs alot though, at least you get the size and the prices have dropped like crazy now, check out Tiger.

VGA? is this PC Based or Stand Alone? If they want great quality then they can look at the Ultra High Res LCDs .. quite a few brands make them, but they arent cheap. Still none can match a high res CCTV CRT Monitor. Even something like this, we use them down here, great image for the price and size: Syntax Olevia LT32HVM 32" 1366x768 / 1600:1 Contrast Ratio / DVI / PC Input / LCD TV w/Speakers

That is a draw back too, though at least it has full remote admin which even alot of pc dvrs dont have. Also the multi site works good, 64 way from 16 DVRs. The HDD upgrade is my only issue with them. There are other small things I wish they would upgrade too .. either way its still a solid RTOS DVR.

What type of camera are you using now? the Ganz indoor dome would be a good image, but the width .. you want a dome with a wide enough lens, and check the pixels are: 811x506 (NTSC)
-
i sent you someones email to contact direct.
-
Indoors it really doesnt matter. Its the IR that is outdoors such as in the sunlight that causes issues.

Most PTZs will have the choice of Pole Mounts. Here is the CyberDome Pole Mount Or you could also mount a Square pole if you wanted. We bought these for approx $100 in the US and had them sprayed black.

Who did you speak with, did you get a name? Rory

Hi, The DVMRe is 60fps. Its fine if you use motion recording, and still useful even if not. If you want real time speeds then you really need a PC system. Otherwise these are solid plug and play machines. Only issue i have with them is upgrading the HDDs. You would need to do factory training at GE to get their Power Supply upgrade Kits in order to upgrade the HDDs. Optionally you can use a Firewire Device for archiving though (only on the DVMRe's)
-
Good to know. Was the conduit metal or plastic?
-
I wouldnt mess with the Honeywell, not exactly a big seller .. but costs an arm and a leg ...
-
they have a power suply upgrade kit, but to get it you need to goto a factory training class.

Type of Camera To Capture Faces at Main Door???
rory replied to pcmate's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Auto Iris is not the fix, you need a camera with Back Lighting settings, such as most decent Box cameras. This allows you to see the faces, though you loose everything else, like the background and edges will be dark. Also need to zoom in the lens right on the entrance for it to work properly. You will need to use a box camera for this generally. A newer method is using Wide Dynamic cameras, these allow you to see faces as well as everything else .. they cost much mroe though, generally double the price, but they do the job well. However not all are great, most dont perform in low lighting very well, some do. Panasonic has had a Day Night version for a few years now, Ganz also has a regular color version, Ive used the GE Ultraview version but it was a poor performer in low light and had other issues. Most name brands sell them now such as Bosch, JVC, etc. and alot of them use the same technology. -
