    Install Photo's

would it really of been so hard for whoever installed that 2nd cam to just mount it on the wall? grrr Well to be fair to them ... though they suck at that .. LOL the camera they installed, the cable is too short to go through the wall. I think they replaced an existing camera that went bad. Also thats tile not a wall .
  2. i will do. things you do to your body when you are younger, catch up with you when you get older. I got injuries from my 20s that are now just taking full effect. back then I walked away from them like it was nothing. its part of life. besides, do you really want to be installing cameras when you are older?
  3. When you get older you will quickly realize how painful it is to do what seems like the simplest thing when one is younger. You might have a bad back alone just from all the climbing on ladders drilling into red bricks. Besides, maybe the mortar is easier to repair than the brick if he had to move it? I dunno, here its all finished cement over the brick.
  4. Screw them, he pays rent (??) If anything they should be thanking him, and if they are concerned then send someone to cleanup the wiring, he paid for the system they should be paying for. Otherwise, sue the losers for lack of proper security.

    some stills from my cameras

just tell them you are out doing some gardening ..
  6. I think it has to be installed on a Mac. Even on Windows, although you COULD run it off a USB drive, it is very slow as it loads all the images into memory, also needs write access to the data files - basically it can take forever to load. And if its Windows 7 for example, the data files will be read/created from the Local App Data path, instead of the programs path. As far as I know the Mac version is emulated, although they are working on a new version which may not be. I dont have a Mac to test it on to really say yes or no.

    IP Camera Net Viewing

I love DynDns... I use them as my primary email service for my Mobotix cameras. It saves me the hassle of putting an email server onsite for notifications and motion/PIR events. I just started using FreeDNS But it is for my website and email. Not bad and works good .. Got a free updater tool they have for download .. so that keeps the IP updated for the domain records in my account there. actually have 2 domain names there now both going to my PC. No uploading to an online host anymore, I just edit the files hit save and its done ... same with uploading exe files etc .. just dump them in the folder and good to go on my PC I have IIS which comes with XP, using HmailServer for my domain's email .. my ISP blocks 25 so I just use the built in relay to send to the ISP's SMTP instead. Got Smarter Stats setup and just finished installing Afterlogic Webmail lite. So now I can access the webmail remotely if I need to also. I dont normally use webmail but figured I would give it a shot anyway. Might try Smarter Mail lite next. Basically other than XP its all free just need to find some decent logging software now for network security. What with all the ports open and all .. And all this on a Pentium 4 ! (plus watching movies) I might set it up on a separate computer at the alarm co though as they have solar. otherwise when my power goes off so does the site .. went off for 2 hours today. or get a mini PC and run some battery backup and see how long that will last with just it, the router and the cable modem connected. Oh yeah .. I can use my website domain name now to connect to my cameras also ... But yes I still use DynDns for clients, as not many will spend the $$ on a domain name just for the DVR, although its only $35 a year or cheaper from other registras. need to run the IP updater though on a PC at the site, or use one of their custom router firmwares. Unless they have a static IP. Anyway .. now thats done .. back to programming
  9. What happens when the PSU fries the next day? Gotta take it right back down
  10. The biggest most expensive 24VAC Altronix PSU can be mounted with 4 small sheetrock screws into wood or concrete with basic wall plugs. Its not THAT heavy. Got one like that for several years now. Otherwise just use regular wall screws and plugs, nothing special about it.

I get 3mbs down, 512mbs up (more like 384), $50 per month without cable TV static IP extra $20 a month hence the use of DynDns

    Suggestions for dvd burning software.

All the evidence Ive given the cops over the past year have been to USB drives. Havent had to burn to CD/DVD in ages so I dont even install that in the PCs anymore. Even when the lawyers request video they come with their jump drive. But you are right, Nero is so bloated, new versions wont even work on my P4 anymore. I use Final DVD burner when I make disks for other things, but I dont think that will do what you want. It is free though.
  13. Firmware updates especially for budget DVRs rarely make much of a difference, if anything it would be to fix an existing bug and eventually the updates would discontinue as they bring out replacement models. The Network client software on the other hand could have some major updates over time. If you use the wrong firmware though it could cause the DVR not to start up again. Even if its the same model it might be a much older version that the firmware is not meant for.

    Lens Recommendation for GE KTC200DN

2.8-11mm Auto Iris 1/3" Infrared Corrected (IR) Lens. Then you can adjust the view as you need it (within that range) Check out Computar or Fujinon brands for example. If you just want a wide angle get something like a 3.6mm or 4mm fixed lens.
  15. If you cant find the manual from them, it is the Dahua Hybrid DVR

    Geovision 8.12 to 8.5?

You could always turn the frame rate down as well, which will lower the CPU usage. I did that on that last system, made it 7fps max per channel - dropped CPU down some 30-40%. Otherwise the 1480 would try to go all out. A quad core would probably be fine though.

    Geovision 8.12 to 8.5?

3Ghz Core 2 Duo CPU was bogged down with 8.4, only has H.264 and ASP codecs which use more CPU than the Geo Mpeg4 - I ended up back with 8.33. But I was told 8.5 runs much lighter so they must have stripped it down some now, havent tested that myself. Generally now you need a super computer for Geovision. I got celerons still in the field running 8.12 like a boss
  24. Change the compatibility to XP SP3 and run as an Admin. Windows 7 sucks sometimes
