  1. if you have the other one use it. Are there any other choices besides Samsung? If not, then get the 520 as its a proven high end Day night camera.
  2. thats GVI ... Techwin is much better.
  3. Samsung GVI uses mostly cheap OEM cameras, they are a US company with the Samsung Name (long story behind that), Samsung Techwin are much better Cameras. There are several Samsung Companies and they are all different. There are typically just the 2 CCTV Samsung Companies. Lets put it this way, you could probably get the same GVI camera under the COP name for 1/2 the price.
  4. If the other one is Samsung GVI then its just an OEM like a COP camera, so I would choose the Samsung Techwin Camera for sure. the 520 is a well known proven camera and has been around for years, ofcourse its been upgraded over time to various versions. I would buy the GE or Extreme Day Night box camera myself if we were chosing name brands, but the Techwin unit would still be on my list as a decent day night camera.
  5. Cool .. thats what I figured too .. Still working on it... . so far so good.
  6. Anyone else using their own Windows Shell on their DVRs ..? If so which type ..? Or custom built from scratch // thanks Rory

darn .. watch out for those flash floods too
  10. You never see windows at all and you can totally customize it to your needs. Keylock is just a program using low level hooks to disable the task bar, the start menu, and Ctl-alt-Del - Did this myself easily but not what I wanted. A Shell replaces Explorer.exe totally.
  11. http://bb4win.sourceforge.net/bblean/ whats cool is you can set it up then just copy the files, no installation is required. Also comes with an SDK and source code for total customisation by the looks of it .. ill have to look at that some more .. not quite the customized Windows XP embedded Shell I wanted but hey .. only little annoying thing is when you shut down windows or anything like that, it has its name as the title of the window .. but i guess that can be taken out with the SDK .. PS Jasper where yah been
  12. blackbox right now, it works well for what Im doing, totally customizable and installable with the command line also .. this way it takes over from when windows Loads so you see nothing .. its like a custom OS .. Now, i want to do my own .. course its still windows ... another question, whats the legal stand on custom shells ..? I also load my own desktop wallpaper and a program that loads which has the wallpaper included also .. then loads the full screen software im working on .. when you exit this program all you get is the wall paper with my logo, and you can right click to start the program, or exit windows ..

    PowerTelecomm DVR Problems

Most DVRs have built in HTTP Web Servers, this is standard as of a couple years now. Certain Budget units still dont though. As to the latter, links to web shops are not allowed by the rules, primarily those that offer less than list pricing. Not sure which link was there but after research at the time, the pricing was below list price on several other products. Retail pricing is typically double the wholesale price and this is how I rate them when removing links. It wasnt removed for any negative reasons, this is just what we have to follow at this time. thanks Rory

    Best Stand Alone

Actually, no we dont import from Australia. If he is interested he can purchase from one of our overseas distributors or directly from us. He cannot buy the same DVR else where..Sorry it's not possible. We are the only ones who carry the ICRealtime DVR's. Kand you know better than that, the unit comes from China which is in his area.

    PowerTelecomm DVR Problems

You mentioned Feedback, you need to check the Distributors and ask them about GE, or do a search for Kalatel on this forum .. they are still the number one Stand Alone on the Market with a long proven record. 1) 8 channels - Done 2) network client application for monitoring/playback - Done "wish" items 4) preferrably D1 recording resolution - Done - they all do D1 Recording 5) preferrably browser based remote software available for monitoring and playback - Done - they all come with that now Was there anything else special you were looking for? rory

    Best Stand Alone

ICrealtime is located in the US, they import from your area, so youd be best going to someone in your area for the same DVR if you chose that unit. GE has a dept in australia, have you checked them out? Then there is Dedicated Micros. Optionally you could check out the I-view Stand alone PC units, they use Embedded XP so are 100% PC features and highest quality of any stand alone (though embedded it is not a RTOS), but with front panel push buttons. They are located in Taiwan I think. Also check out this thread, see if you can get some free demos and let us know how they are http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=4730

    PowerTelecomm DVR Problems

To the original question, I havent used that DVR but I have their Embedded board which is a very good unit - no issues over the intenet or network, streams great. The embedded board allows you to put it in any PC case. Otherwise I can recommend the GE StoreSafe as a high end Stand alone unit. Cant go wrong with them, they have been around from day one of CCTV DVRs . from the Kalatel name. Anyway, what is your price range, are you going to push low end or high end DVRs? The DVrs you and I also mentioned have a range of pricing from budget to very expensive ... there are a ton of DVRs out there that are great, just need to know more of your requirments. Rory

Newbie - Which type of camera?

to stay within budget at Retail Pricing, you would probably want to look at something like the Sanyo 4594, a Decent Housing (i use the GE KTE-100's but will break your budget so an OEM housing with a good rubber seal should suffice), and a 4-8mm AI lens like a Tamron (lower cost but still decent) Rory
