thats a long list, but it will be mostly in the form of specialty cameras ... DVRs will take time to properly test, worth taking a glimpse at but wont be long enough to really know how well they perform. Hoping the Day Night Camera guys have a "Day Night Room" set up for a proper test. Covi will definately be on there, as well as Acti, and hoping that other Megapixel camera company will be there also, gotta search the forum for its name again. Will also be looking closely at various Wide Dynamic cameras, day nighters, and Infrared. Will post my list this weekend or by end of next week, in the CCTV Bench forum. Rory

ive probably seen most everything that will be there, but there is a list of stuff i want to see in person ... wonder how far they will let us wreak havoc on the DVR's ...

modulated would prbably look better on the LCD ... but the first way is cheap. not many muxes come with IR Remotes, mostly just the OEM ones. High end brand would be GE, ATV, etc. Budget ones would be something like the Speco Multiplexers .. but they dont have near the features of a GE CT Multiplexer. If you can locate one with a IR Remote PM me and Ill check it out. If its any good Ill post the specs here for all to see. thanks Rory

Im pretty sure I replied already ... Big Security Show coming up, as well as Im developing other off topic Custom Software - really tied up from now until then. Im sure we can rely on opinions from other Secu Professionals other than mine ... If you really want to know who I nominate to test it, PM me. I trust the DVR is okay otherwise they wouldnt be promoting it. Otherwise im just very tied up for now and dont want to get involved in anything else until after the show at the least ... as for chinese equipment, we don't need to go there in this post. thankx, Rory

Most high Res B/W cameras are 570-600TVL. All cameras start as BW then they add Chroma to it to produce color (not neccasarily the manufacturer), hence the resolution is lowered. Its the same as putting a filter in front of it, in this case it is more like a color filter. Basically currently anything over 500TVL with color has been digitally enhanced (unless it has mutliple chips and they would say so - such as 1/2" 800TVL cameras but the cost is triplet the cost of a regular 1/3") to reach that supposed resolution. Are you talking about color cameras or B/W, and which brand to be specific (no OEMs). PM me the link and ill give you the run down on it. Super Had etc, arent new also. ... and Sony has various versions of chips, from cheap to expensive. Need to know more before can comment on it. Thanks Rory PS. Sorry about the previous post

just click on the PM under my name .... post public settings here but keep the VNC stuff private (PM's) ... i'll help as much as I can. Rory

The Mpeg4 is just the compression method, it saves everything as an AVI with the Geo Codec. I would suggest then when you save as AVI from View Log or Remote Playback, to select "Setting" and "Save as EXE". Though I would try it as Save as AVI first then if it still doesnt work, select the Exe method. Rory

Hi Yes, it can handle it easy at 640x480, even at 720x480. Im not familiar with the card version, but I am with the GV800-4. It should have come in a box that says GeoVision on it, and has their "eye" logo. Also should have come with a very thick manual .. the card itself will say GeoVision on it also. I think the easiest thing would be to have you install Ultra VNC and PM me with access to it, then I get on and make sure it is setup properly. Otherwise you may want to post either questions on setup of each camera, how you have each one set up, or even a screenshot of their set up. Rory

just when I thought I-watchlive had the best smilies ..

Was it a new card? Where did you buy it from? What version software is it running? What version card is it (4,8,16)? Software should also allow Fast Mpeg4 if it is a recent card, and also supported 720x480 as far back as Summer last year. The speed will depend on how many cameras are connected and the PC System setup itself. Rory

Hi Can the Mac play AVI Files? If so, in View Log or RemotePlayback, once you have selected a recorded video file, stop it and select SAVE AS AVI, this will convert the file to standard AVI. Alternatively you can use Windows Movie Maker and convert those standard AVIs to WMV. I imagine you would need a AVI to MPEG4 convertor program if you must have Mpeg4. What version of the Geo Software do you have and how old is the card? Rory

Yep, Geo works well for me, even over the internet, just replying about the NetMax system. Maybe I have a different interpretation of real time audio though .. but I havent had any issues with anything that did audio as yet. I havent done any 16 channel audio systems though, but alot of my systems here do have at least 1 mic.

Also should mention you could optionally contact big companies like GE, Pelco, etc, and see what they recommend - not their reps, the actual manufacturer. Then buy from their reps or other distributor though. Dont know how this would/could play into your system but its another idea.

XP Pro SP2 always ... Personally I wouldnt touch 2000 or XP SP1. Never used XP Home so cant say on that one.

I would let a seperate company deal with the WiFi, access points, etc, so any time it goes down its their resposibility. But yeah, here is how you can do it if thats the route you want to go. Ill use the Acti IP Products as an example here, but could alternatively be Axis or other. Acti has real time D1 though with lowest bandwidth. IDEA #1: Analog -> IP -> DVR Regular Analog Cameras into Acti Video Servers. The Video Servers go into switches then into single or multiple Subscriber units and then wireless to Access Points back to the main central building. Use network switches for all the incoming feeds, as some may be a single feed from an access point coming from multiple subscriber units. Then output from the switches to Acti Video IP Decoders. This converts the IP video back to analog for input into a DVR. IDEA #2: Analog -> IP -> NVR Regular Analog Cameras into Acti Video Servers. The Video Servers go into switches then into single or multiple Subscriber units and then wireless to Access Points back to the main central building. Use a network switch for all the incoming feeds. Then output from the switch to a Network Video Recorder such as a slim line PC with some IP software such as MileStone or Lux Riot (Milestone handles up to 64 camera multi views as well). IDEA #3: IP -> IP -> NVR IP Cameras go into switches then into single or multiple Subscriber units and then wireless to Access Points back to the main central building. Use a network switch for all the incoming feeds. Then output from the switch to a Network Video Recorder such as a slim line PC with some IP software such as MileStone or Lux Riot (Milestone handles up to 64 camera multi views as well). IDEA #4: Analog -> Analog -> DVR Standard Analog Cameras go into single Analog Wireless Transmitters such as Trango or Video Comm 5.8Ghz units. These go wireless back to the main central building to a Analog Wireless Receiver for each single Transmitter used. Limitations to this are the 5.8Ghz maxes out depending on which brand you use, you can for example use a combination of both 1.2, 2.4 and 5.8 to reach a max of 16 wireless cameras (example). Con is it is alot of wireless TX's and RX's, and even more expensive than the above ideas. Pros to this are it is real time analog video (non networked). IDEA #5: ANALOG - DVR Trench and Run either cat5 with Active Hubs and Recievers (eg. NVT), use transceivers as a type of repeater where it may go over 1.5 miles. Or use Fiber. All go back to the DVR. Hope this helps .. Rory

I use Auto Reboot on all the systems I have done, set to reboot once every day. Never had a problem with WebCam coming back on. I always use Apply Startup Settings. I think I had an issue in the beginning when i used Restore Last Status.

I used Verifact-A mic with NetProMax, and it was real time audio in playback .. then again it was only 1 single mic.

Best thing is to find out what their budget is first ... then go from there .. there are several ways to do it ..
-
Does it need a Key? None of the 7.04 versions I have need a dongle .. the card has the security built on board ... anyway you would have to check with the distributors on that ... Rory

did you ever get that problem on 7.04?

Tell them you deal with CCTV and you are in the Security Industry, let them go play with their web cams ... Basically though, IP has its place, but CCTV isnt going anywhere. Also, IP has a long way to go as far as the technology and the IP Video software.
