    HiJacked...

monster do you suggest we start splitting or deleting every thread that goes off topic ..? I did mention I would do that and started to do that, but then its a fine line in alot of threads, and many of them would count me, you and alot of the other senior members in .. More mods would certainly be helpful, but the problem is who gets selected ... I for one have nothing to sell anyone, but many of the regular members do. Thomas is an exeption of the rule, and i myself kneel down to him for how he holds back from doing what alot of the dealers/dists/reps do on this forum as far as sneaky advertising ... he is indeed a unique person and someone I would trust with my life, for the mere fact that he follows and upholds the rules on an online forum, whilst he could easily do otherwise and help himself make more money. Hands out to Thomas ... I hope to meet him one day and shake his hand. As for choosing other mods, I can nominate a couple, but thats something we would need to look at closer, behind the scenes. The couple I mention know who they are, but I wont mention names here. It would definately rule out anyone with an axx to burn as far as sales goes, specifically disributors and Reps, and would only include senior members and or members that spend alot of time on the forum. Its definately something we can look at ... need more feedback, lets see. Ultimately this is Larry's Forum and he has the last word ... and I stand by whatever he chooses. Rory

Help with a GE Interlogix PTZ

Sounds like you need the GE ProBridge. How do you have it hooked up currently? What does the Sensormatic DVR use, is it a PC or Stand alone? I had to use one with the GeoVision. Click for Tech Info

    System Recommendations for Newbie

I wouldnt use anything less than a 2.4Ghz now .. a 1.5-2 ghz can work with 2-4 cameras but anything over that and you're pushing it. Remember this software, and Windows XP, were not developed on slow PCs .. so i wouldnt even put XP on anything less than 1.5Ghz.

    Stand alone VS PC Based

Here we go again ... Stand Alone is when you want plug, play, and forget. There are many stand alones, and the more you pay for one, normally the more featurers you will get in it, as well as Stability comes with a price. PC based for when you want upgradable, higher quality evidence sharing, and faster record speeds. But have to also deal with any maintenance and setup included with them.

    Why is the video fast?

What he said to a degree, using either ViewLog or Remote Playback, select Save as AVI, then you will be able to view the video in Media Player at its normal recorded speed. It converts it from time lapse to full stream while retaining the time lapse effect.

    Advice on Quality

check out GE for the smoke detector cameras, they have high res versions in color or BW, also multiple camera versions, total of 4 cameras inside 1 single smoke detector. Their hidden camera line is great, and they use professional enclosures. If you want to go budget though then check out the Provideo Line.

Anyone know any 411 on this Co.

Depends, there is Samsung GVI and Samsung Techwin, Techwin having the higher quality gear.

Anyone know any 411 on this Co.

Nope, South Korea and Taiwan with South Korea having the higher end equipment, Taiwan being involved mostly with software, sourcing alot of ready made boards from South Korea, and with all of them sourcing components from Japan - Japan having the highest quality stuff but generally component non western OEM stuff (except for Sony, Sanyo, Ganz, and a couple others) China normally is the rock bottom entry level stuff like COP and MACE, etc. HikVision is an exception to the rule from what I have seen in the specs, but I havent used them personally so cant say. Anyway. there is no one company/manufacturer that sells everything for every application, though you could check out GE, they have a full line of Hidden Cameras, Vandal and Regular Domes, PTZs, Box cams, and their DVRs are some of the best Stand Alone DVRs in the industry with a long proven track record (under the Kalatel name before GE). They arent cheap gear though. For budget gear though you will need to go OEM. Rory

Anyone know any 411 on this Co.

Just that their DVRs are made by HikVision which is located in China.
  20. you could look for a BW board camera, fit it inside a custom weaherproof housing, and use up to a 16mm fixed micro lens. Typically for outdoors Bullet cams are as discreet as I go, next to a Vandal Dome. You could also use an empty gang box, you can buy them with a glass plate or make your own, protect it under an eave or something and caulk it good. Put the camera in there, i did that once for someone using a small mini camera with a pinhole lens. They sell them ready made such as Provideo or GE, but those are made for indoors. Optionally another discreet camera is the Extreme CCTV EX45. Its a mini weathersealed dome and I would suggest the 16mm lens (the max) and use a Dome Insert to hide the camera guts. It cane be wall mounted or ceiling mounted. Its also vandal resistant. EX45| High Impact Dome Features • Vandal Resistant & Weather Sealed • CNC-milled anodized aluminum • B/W model: 0.03Lux, Enhanced Infrared • Color model: 0.14Lux, Dynamic Range • Day/Night model: 0.2/0.0Lux, Crisp, vivid color with excellent low light performance • Protection from electrical surges & spikes • Ball joint for mounting in any direction • 12VDC or 24VAC NOTE: All EX45 models are shipped as black base with half tint as standard. MODELS: SX3xxbh – B/W 1/3" LXR, 600TVL, w/ micro-lens CX6xxah – Color 1/3", 480 TVL, w/ micro-lens MX4xxbh - Day/night, 1/3" LXR, 450/ 570 TVL, w/ micro-lens LENS: Fixed micro lens: Replace xx with 02-2.5mm, 03-2.9mm, 04-3.6mm, 05-4.3mm, 06-6mm, 08-8mm, 12-12mm, 16-16mm OPTIONS: RDz - Replacement Dome y - Base w/ dome, pivot, ball joint (no Camera, no VRB) yz dummy - Dummy unit with dome (no pivot or ball joint) DIB - Dome Insert, Black with Slot y = a-aluminum base, b-black base z = c-clear, h-half tint, f-full tint

    Plate reader equipment

Both can be customized by the developers im sure. Just looking at the Geo one again, it uses an Access DB so you can just import into that, either write a basic VB program or script to do it or there are free ones on the web. Also, im sure Geo probably has something for it, this is only the Demo i have. Importing data into a DB from other files though is a very simple task. Extreme's, would have to check with them on that as the Demo is very limited. Rory

Also Extreme has 3rd party software for handling the plates, or you can use something like the GeoVision or other LPR software. If you want to demo either let me know via PM.

  24. i can accept them, i just dont want my email server hanging up its easier to ftp ... i cant send anything over 1meg .. as my SMTP is the local ISP since they block port 25 .. Skype is easy though, no ports to forward ...
  25. either a GE KTC-2000DN (Day Night Exview Box Camera) or a GE KTC-540 (B/W Exview Box Camera) .. or similar, once its exview. You will need a lens that you can manually zoom in, I would say a 5-50mm to be safe but then you loose lighting capabilities with those, as they are generally F:1.3 and the more you zoom the lens, the less light passes into the camera. I think it maybe your only choice though, a GE, Computar, Fujinon, Tamron 5-50mm - they are typically all the same as far as F: stop. If you want to use or will want to use IR thats a different story alltogether, but it doesnt seem you do. I would normally use my ViewFinder, then I could determine which Fixed Lens you can use, instead of a Varifocal Lens. I dont know where the car is now so cant say, but if you send me a photo I can make an estimated lens distance. OR, need the distance to the FOV from the camera, and the width of the FOV, then can use a Lens Calculator. Since its a pretty far distance, using a Fixed lens will be a better choice for low light, off hand I would estimate it around 16-25mm but then again depends how much of the vehicle you want to see. If you have a chance, get one of the Computar/Ganz ViewFinders. Rory
